Josianne

That's an unfair growstuff if it was meant for me. Is one not allowed to have a down moment without having to think outside one's own box just for one day? No one mentioned not being grateful.

No, it wasn't specifically meant for you, but I don't have much sympathy for anybody with first world problems.

My 10 year old grandaughter has covid, she' not worrying about end of term activities or even finishing making her christmas cakes ,her priority is her mum and how to avoid being near her in case she catches it .Her mum is chronically ill!

Children cope much better than most adults give them credit for ,in fact after watching a young friend who was 13 fighting a rare cancer I believe children cope much better than adults with most things life throws at them

Kali2

As we are discussing cancelling our trip to spend Christmas with family, and all our close family bar one having Covid at the moment- yes, today it really got to me- for the first time.

Been in tears all day- and I feel so worried for grand-kids who can't have a normal life now. Grand-daughter so upset as she is missing all the end of term sport matches, concert and plays that she has prepared for so hard.

Yes Kali2 I sympathise.

Hang on to the good things you have!

I'm just glad I'm not the parent or grandparent of one of the people who drowned in the Channel. They won't get the opportunity to see their offspring performing in a play - and much more.

Yes, the Spanish flu is a good comparison virus trajectory. At least science is gaining new and valuable knowledge, especially as we are a little more high tech than in 1914!

Yes, annie61, normally I am an optimistic and upbeat person, but even I am feeling low. One activity after another being cancelled, my choir's concert on Dec. 18th and now my lovely GS's school nativity for the second year running. He will never get to be a Wiseman with his parents' proudly watching and for that I cried today. In fact I feel I am more likely to be an angel or a star in heaven before this is over.
But tomorrow is another day and all we can do is make the best of it.

Yes, it does seem all doom and gloom still and I was hoping it would be on the wane and becoming less virulent by now.

It will reduce in numbers at some point look at Japan Covid seems to have disappeared up its own exhaust pipe there

That more cheering news hasn't been widely reported!

I know how you feel. I, too, watched the presentation and felt very depressed. However, I have read several articles now by people who have been following the covid pandemic and comparing it with the progress of Spanish flu that killed so many people after the war. They are of the opinion that covid is following the same path as Spanish flu and, if that is the case, it should start dying away by March 2022. It won't disappear altogether but will become more like a common cold, or the flu, something which is a nuisance if you get it but not something we worry about unduly. Hope that cheers you up a bit!

It certainly feels that way right now, Gravy! let's hope for a brighter 2022.

Sorry you are feeling low but we are far better off than we was last year and since July things have been pretty much normal
We don't know enough about Omicron yet so we will have to wait and see

I suppose it depends how much you dwell on it or just get on with normal activities have no intention of cancelling any Christmas events

I feel as if this Covid nightmare is never going to end, and it is beginning to get to me.

annie61 Tue 30-Nov-21 18:28:33

Thank you tanith. I suppose it's just the 'covid fatigue' many of us are feeling.

Resigned to it....yes, there's that, too.

tanith Tue 30-Nov-21 18:22:30

It does feel like deja vu, but I’m just resigned to it I think. I do feel that it’s really not a big ask to wear a mask again although I’ve worn mine whenever I go somewhere busy. I’m sorry you are feeling so low I hope you feel lighter soon.

annie61 Tue 30-Nov-21 18:01:53

Just that, really. Government going all out to get every adult 'boosted' ASAP. Fair enough - but it does feel to me like this will go on and on for years.

Masks everywhere, more variants to probe and study, more boosters, more and more restrictions. Maybe I'm just a little low, but I honestly felt utter depair after that conference this evening.
