Christmas party at Downing Street last year

Families who lost loved ones during the pandemic have said they are "sickened" by a No 10 Christmas party held during last year's Covid restrictions.

The party took place on 18 December, with a source telling the BBC "several dozen" people attended.

But the Covid restrictions operating at the time banned such events.

Boris Johnson - who was not at the party - said no Covid rules were broken, but No 10 has refused to explain how party-goers complied.

I read none of the aforementioned newspapers but am and will remain a Conservative voter. I am able to think for myself.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 03-Dec-21 20:01:55

Please do not lump all previous Conservative voters together.

I for one do not condone the No.10 shenanigans, but I would like to know the truth, not the media take on it.

What are you trying to say to me GJ? I’m dense, kindly be explicit.

How outrageously do these Tory liars have to behave to persuade the readers ofTthe Daily Mail, The Telegraph, The Sun and The Express to see them for what they are and stop their blind unquestioning support?

JaneJudge Fri 03-Dec-21 19:17:29

All those people who couldn't even see their relatives out of their time in this world too because of covid, even if they had covid. But Christmas parties for downing street during lockdown = fine
give over

JaneJudge Fri 03-Dec-21 19:15:54

We couldn't even see our own daughter/granddaughter/sister who has a disability and lived in a care home on her 21st birthday LAST YEAR my memory is not that f***ing short. They are absolutely disgraceful

They don't care about the likes of us and I am not sure why people defend this kind of crap

How in the name of the wee man can anyone excuse this disgusting behaviour?

varian Fri 03-Dec-21 19:03:56

The link gives the facts, facts provided by experts, - but do they make any impression on the diehard Tory loyalists who voted for brexit because "the British people have had too much of experts"?

Do you all remember Kellyanne Conway who coined the expression "alternative facts"?

MissAdventure Fri 03-Dec-21 18:55:56

The link also clears up the timeframe and rules, for those who don't understand or remember what they were all that time ago, back in the olden days.
Last year, in other words.

angry
What a bllidy insult to those who lost family members.

varian Fri 03-Dec-21 18:50:38

They will not look at any evidence of Tory lies and corruption

1. I didn’t vote for Corbyn
2. I’m not a Labour voter

3. I’d really like to ask Lemongrove and GSM to watch the bbc piece. Please.

It has made my blood boil

GagaJo Fri 03-Dec-21 18:25:13

Urgh! Drinking. Apologies.

Corbyn a decent guy? With his connections to terrorists? Next I’ll hear that McDonnell, still very much in evidence, isn’t a Marxist.

See you've been drinkning the cool-aid GSM. Daily Fail?

MissAdventure Fri 03-Dec-21 18:22:06

So, now that the notion of us all being lefties has been put to bed, how about the party in power following their own regulations?

varian Fri 03-Dec-21 18:20:43

correction - "do I NOT support Corbyn"

varian Fri 03-Dec-21 18:19:53

As the OP I can tell you that not only do I support Corbyn, I am not a supporter of the Labour Party.

As a Liberal Democrat, I do belong to the majority of voters at the last general election, who voted against this corrupt Tory party, who still got a "LANDSLIDE" on the basis of a minority of votes.

First Past The Post is only used for electing governments in two European countries - the United Kingdom and Belarus.

All the other countries in Europe are democracies - where a government can only be elected with the support of the majority of electors.

The UK and Belarus are sham democracies.

OK, you can vote, but what difference does that ever make if you live in a safe seat?

Our top priority should be making the UK a democratic country electing its government by a system of proportional representation.

Galaxy Fri 03-Dec-21 17:53:54

Yes I remember those threads casdon and you are right.

GillT57 Fri 03-Dec-21 17:53:49

Agreed Casdon. I too have been accused of being a 'leftie' but have never been a Corbyn supporter. However, being the daft deluded woke leftie that I am I expect the government of the day to follow the rules they set. Silly of me obviously.

rosie1959 Fri 03-Dec-21 17:51:28

We managed a Christmas meal before restuarants closed but there are only six of us. One couple were unwell so just four of us but on separate tables.
Hopefully this year all six on one table

Casdon Fri 03-Dec-21 17:49:03

I was telling the truth. I can categorically say I have never been a Corbyn supporter, and have posted a number of times on Gransnet to say that lemongrove (and fallen out with other Labour supporters about it) - in fact anybody who posts regularly on the political threads knows that there are a lot of Labour supporters who, prior to and since he was ousted feel the same as I do, and a number of them are on this thread.

At the end of the day though, that’s nothing at all to do with this thread, it’s just another attempt at diversion, because this thread is about the government.

MissAdventure Fri 03-Dec-21 17:47:42

I wouldn't care who was in power.
I would just appreciate if they could follow their own rules.
Not really too much to ask, is it?

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 03-Dec-21 17:46:18

Actually Casdon your own post made me smile, as most left wing posters on here and on other politics pages were Corbyn supporters at least until the last GE. He was then dropped like a hot potato by everyone for losing so badly. Now they seek to constantly distance themselves from him.

Eh? I think he's a decent guy. But he's not Labour leader anymore. I'd bet any left-winger on here would say the same.

That is a very skewed interpretation.
