Christmas party at Downing Street last year

For those with short memories. London went into Tier 3 restrictions on 14th December.

‘People must not meet socially indoors or in most outdoor places with anybody they do not live with, or who is not in their support bubble; this includes in any private garden or at most outdoor venues. At other outdoor spaces such as parks or beaches people must not socialise in groups of more than six.’

Very clear indeed that ‘informal gatherings of colleagues’ were not permitted.

It’s all just political points scoring, in Parliament and on social media ( including GN).

A gathering of colleagues who work alongside each other anyway is hardly in the same league!
By all means get yourself into a froth about it if you wish to.

This isn’t old news - this was deliberately kept quiet from uk population. We have followed all the rules. Didn’t see anyone over last Christmas. Didn’t go anywhere. Spent Christmas just the two of us. We were doing what was “expected” in the hope of saving lives. This so called Government just can’t help themselves can they? How hard is it to obey the rules. Totally disgraceful behaviour. Our friends son spent his Christmas putting people on ventilators whilst others in Downing Street partied! Sounds par for the course though.

No, you couldn't travel out of your area last year, and yes not everybody has relatives and friends in their own area, but plenty do and enjoyed seeing them last Christmas.
DD also had a scaled back office party, everyone being careful, no hugging shaking hands etc, but with food and drinks and music.Why not? They were working all day with each other anyway, so just part of the day.
There is an almost Quaker like attitude from some people about socialising now, even when allowed and when people are more careful.As if, because you won’t do it ....nobody else should either.
I enjoyed last Christmas within the rules and intend to enjoy it again this year too.Cheers?

Nothing to do with Quakers, just obeying the rules your beloved leader set down for us.

We didn't do it because it was against the law and apart from people realising we needed to bring infection rates down you could be fined £10,000 for breaking the law.

We aren't talking about this year are we, we are talking about an illegal party taking place at 10 Downing St.

I too was disgusted at the way they carried on with their weddings, publicised, as if they were exempt, as I was with anyone who broke the rules. It was Sturgeon who banned travel from Scotland. As for the party at Downing St, nothing published at the time, so is it just an embittered ex employee , why keep it quiet until now, smacks of let’s put the boot in while the polls are in our favour.

They weren't all south Asian families, Orthodox Jews did it as well.

It is possible that this notorious party was actually attended by a number of journalists but as they were all from the slavishly pro-Tory press, it was kept under wraps until now.

My household stuck to the rules as did our family and friends so yes Lemon we have every right to be more than miffed at Boris and his cronies breaking the rules,and if he wasnt there himself he would have certainly known about it

I did not travel last Christmas. My DD was extremely depressed at the time and was so looking forward to seeing me. It caused her huge distress.

I’m extremely p***ed off that anyone had a Christmas party or large gatherings last Christmas be they the neighbours down the road or those in government.

Government should be setting an example, not treating the electorate with such contempt. There is no excuse at all. TBH, I don’t care whether it was guidance or the rules. That’s playing semantics. If you make the rules or the guidelines you should follow them to the letter. No excuses!

My DS and partner were unable to leave London (remember that advice) and my DD and her partner who both worked from home, spent Xmas day only with us, but left to drive home, in the cold and dark because that was the advice too. So, am I angry? You bloody bet I am. I had only just calmed down from the Barnard Castle fiasco.

We stuck to the rules and didn’t interpret them to suit ourselves. Obviously others did just as they wanted.
