Do you think his exemption from covid vaccination is a bit odd? I understand Australians are not happy about letting him into the country and the likelihood is that he will be booed when he plays according to Andrew Castle.

Tennis players are a very entitled lot and tend to think that rules don't apply to them. I hope they send him back. I spoke to a friend of mine in Melbourne yesterday and she said he will be booed if he plays. However they have had a very tough time and a spoilt tennis players dilemma is very low down on their priority list.

He credits his diet as being the reason he is such a brilliant player. If only it were that easy. My old double's partner was coeliac and couldn't do a backhand to save his life.

???

Ok, fair enough if he doesn't want to have the vaccine but he should stay at home until the pandemic is over.

Yes it more or less is Marmite is meat extract and vegemite is vegetable extract. Being at risk of being called unAustralian here but to me both are revolting.

Marmite isn't meat extract, it's yeast extract from the brewing process.

Love it or hate it!

I have tried to find out if he does actually have coeliac disease but the only thing I can find is that he is now on a gluten free diet after a ‘diagnosis’ from someone involving a slice of bread held against his stomach in his left hand which apparently caused weakness in his right arm when the ‘therapist’ tried to push his right arm down!!

Diagnosis- a gluten allergy!

I’d confiscate his racquets and his balls ?

Put him on the naughty step grin

JaneJudge Fri 07-Jan-22 09:52:51

we the latest about him being held captive has just made him look like a narcissistic attention seeker

Marmite is a yeast extract and a by product of the brewing process. Bovril is beef extract.

Obviously his antivax wife was wily enough not to accompany ND on this occasion, so my guess is he half expected there might be trouble.

Given his well publicised fussy eating habit I imagine he would consider any hotel meal unacceptable.

I have a horrible feeling he is going to wriggle out of this ban on Monday.

I hope I’m wrong.

Same here.

As far as I can read, Djokovic was given an exemption by the tennis authority to compete but that's not the same as having permission by exemption to enter the country.

Really annoys me that sporting authority think they can overrule a countries Government. Unelected fools.

Wouldn’t like to be the one that broke Serbias rules of entry, what makes this tennis player thinks he can break Australian rules.

Djokovic is a vaccine sceptic, an anti-vaxxer who has refused to disclose his Covid vaccine status. “I am opposed to vaccination, and I wouldn’t want to be forced by someone to take a vaccine,” he said during a livestream in April 2020.
Two months later, while the pandemic raged and much of the world was social distancing, he staged his own tournament in the Balkans at which, to widespread condemnation, a number of players including Djokovic, as well as his wife Jelena, tested positive for Covid. The final had to be scrapped. Apparently Jelena, mother of his two children, is no stranger to controversy, having shared a conspiracy video about 5G causing coronavirus on Instagram back in 2020.

Anti-vaxx nutters?

His father's ludicrously emotive comments above are very dangerous for the health of Serbia as a whole. Presumably ND is revered in his country and the people idolise him, so now they are going to follow his silly antivax ideas even more so with his dad on the war path. The consequences will be dire for the country. It's not just about him.

TopsyIrene06 Fri 07-Jan-22 08:18:49

I agree MayBeMaw entitled git. Nadal was spot on.

Zoejory Fri 07-Jan-22 08:14:06

He has celiac disease.

From what I've read he doesn't have coeliac. But he does eat a gluten free diet. Because he's sensitive to gluten. Apparently.

He credits his diet as being the reason he is such a brilliant player. If only it were that easy. My old double's partner was coeliac and couldn't do a backhand to save his life.

There's been constant comings and goings on flights non-stop for the past 2 years. What difference is it going to make ?
There has never been an all out lock-down of any country.

Which is why we've got bugs flying around 365 days of the year ! Why this concern 2 years on ?

You can’t stop your own nationals coming home.Australia, along with NZ and Japan have the strictest rules, which have to be adhered to or you are sent home. Wish we had been much stricter.

He has celiac disease. But I don’t see how that can excuse him from having the vaccine.

Ah, that might well make a difference.
In fact, some Australian consultants have advised coeliacs not to have the vaccine.

My DD also has coeliac disease, is immunocompromised, and has had all her vaccines. Still she is a scientist, not a tennis player.

MayBeMaw Fri 07-Jan-22 08:03:13

His father isn’t helping matters either
From todays DT
NOVAK DJOKOVIC’S father has accused Australia of “crucifying” his son as the row over the world tennis number one’s detention in Melbourne over Covid restrictions escalated into a full blown diplomatic conflict between Canberra and Belgrade
Srdjan Djokovic, who compared his son to Spartacus, the gladiator who led a slave revolt against Rome, accused Scott Morrison, the Australian prime minister, of “trampling over Serbia. “
Jesus was crucified on the cross … but he is still alive among us. They are trying to crucify and belittle Novak and throw him to his knees,” he said.
Offensive git ???

MayBee70 Fri 07-Jan-22 01:10:21

I might tune into Radio Melbourne or Sport 927 to see what the word from down under is….

MayBeMaw Fri 07-Jan-22 00:20:30

It said “World No 1 self-obsessed, entitled anti-Vaxer “

MayBeMaw Fri 07-Jan-22 00:18:33

In case that was too unclear to read

MayBeMaw Fri 07-Jan-22 00:17:03

He’s not gaining any friends is he? Bit of a PR disaster.

his parents were just saying he is in prison and then he was in his perfectly nice hotel room moaning about the food, which also looked perfectly fine
idiots grin

Of course, if they're feeding him local delicacies such as grubs and crocodile he might not find it appetising.
Or Vegemite.

All he has to do is shout, "I'm a celebrity, get me out of here!"
