Are we to be offered 4th jab?

As it's now 3 months since my 3rd vaccination, I'm wondering if I still have the benefit of it? I haven't seen anything in the recent press about this but do recall it being recommended in the not too distant past......

Gwen, as far as I know, presently you have to be recorded as immunocompromised on your medical record, being CEV, does not automatically make you eligible for a fourth vaccination.

People who are immunocompromised have also been informed that they may be eligible for anti viral treatment, if they contract Covid.
Much to my relief, in Scotland fast track PCR testing is available and if the result is positive, there is a dedicated number to phone to obtain treatment. This treatment must be administered within seven days of testing positive.

I believe the process is different in the other nations. Missedout is very au fait with what is happens in England.

I have wondered about this, too. I am CEV but have not been offered a 4th, and in the light of it being a free for all very soon, I feel very unsafe!

Four jabs in one year? Absolute madness

Walk in our shoes. Your post is offensive to those of us, who will probably die if we catch Covid. You have absolutely no idea what it is like to be immunocompromised and the impact it has on our life.

DH who is vulnerable and DM who is very very elderly have already had 4th jab.

I have an appointment for my fourth jag on Sunday, which was overdue. I was actually offered it today, since I am CEV, after calling to get an update on a case, which had been raised, because my third Primary vaccination had been wiped from my record in error and my account had been locked. This prevented both myself and the helpline from booking an appointment.

I have nothing but praise for the people on the NHS Sctland helpline, who pulled out the stops to rectify this.
It had caused me no end of stress, as my son is getting married in four weeks and I need all the protection, I can get.

It set me wondering about those who are not as savvy and persistent as I am and who are not able to fight their corner. What do they do?

I had my 4th jab this morning and was asked what reactions I’d had from previous ones. First two were AZ, no reaction, 3rd jab was Pfizer, no reaction. The nurse administering the vaccine told me that no reactions to either told her that my immune system isn’t working properly, not great to hear and that she would give me a half dose of Moderna. She said I’d probably feel quite groggy tomorrow, which although not great I’d at least know my immune system had sat up and taken notice.
I’ll wait to see.

That’s very different to me. I took part in a BIOBANK study post AZ 2 vaccinations. I took an antibody test for them and had a positive reaction ie antibodies even though I had no side effects from the AZ vaccine.

My DH had the Moderna booster, no reaction at all, apart from a painful arm for the first 24hrs. I had similar with the Pfizer.

Oh I do hope not. I really don’t want a 4th jab especially not if it’s Moderna which my son and DIL had and were very poorly afterwards.
That’s not to say I won’t bite the bullet and have it if called.

My DH was I’ll for over a week with the Moderna vaccine and me for a day. Joint pain, nausea, headache etc. DH said he felt as bad as when he had Covid. I’m not sure what I will do.

Antibody tests should be made available.

Listened to an old Inside Health on BBC Sounds the day before yesterday. Apparently children under 11 showed antibodies to Covid before the pandemic because the catch so many colds. Episode on 29/9/20 for anyone interested to listen.

I was talking to someone the other day who has her fourth vaccination booked. She may be CEV though. I didn’t think to ask.

Hannah Been told and indeed heard quite the opposite!

BlueSky Thu 10-Feb-22 09:05:49

I guess another booster will be put on hold till the autumn now, and then possibly will be like annual like the flu one. But at the moment we don’t really know.

That doesn't sound right or relate to anything I have read about vacination reactions
Many i know had no reactions apart from a sore arm.
Mine seems to be working caught Covid and was not in the least unwell

With all due respect, that nurse did not know what she was talking about!

I have never had a reaction to either my annual flu jab, my shingles jab or either of my Covid jabs or the booster.
Still here, fit as a flea and unfazed by alarmist nurses trying to put the fear of god into their patients

Had mine beforeChristmas. It’s not so important now as there is an anti viral tablet available for the vulnerable which stops us getting it so bad we need to go in hospital.

I agree rosie1959 three vaccinations in less than year is enough.

rosie1959 Mon 24-Jan-22 11:55:30

No more doses for a while yet please two vacinations and a booster in less than a year
Trust in the ones we have received to do their job
Certainly have witnessed them working in our family and friends managing to contract Covid and either having no symptoms or a cold that they in normal times would have thought nothing of

Reported in the Guardian this morning, I haven't gone any further in checking the story but have no reason to believe it isn't genuine.

Fourth vaccine dose has significant benefits for over-60s, Israel says

A fourth dose of Covid-19 vaccine given to people over 60 in Israel made them three times more resistant to serious illness than thrice-vaccinated people in the same age group, Israel’s Health Ministry has said.

The ministry also said the fourth dose, or second booster, made people over 60 twice as resistant to infection than those in the age group who received three shots of the vaccine, Reuters reported.

A preliminary study published by Israel’s Sheba medical centre last Monday found that the fourth shot increases antibodies to even higher levels than the third but “probably” not to the point that it could completely fend off the highly transmissible Omicron variant.

Israel began offering a fourth dose of the Pfizer/BioNtech vaccine to people over 60 earlier this month as Omicron swept the country.

The ministry said on Sunday the study it conducted with several major Israeli universities and the Sheba centre compared 400,000 people over 60 who received the second booster with 600,000 people in the age group who were given a third shot more than four months ago.

As elsewhere, Israel has seen Covid-19 cases spiral due to Omicron. But it has logged no deaths from the variant.

Rosalyn69 my husband & I both had the Moderna booster vaccination. No ill effects, we just felt tired for the following 24 hours.

Have to say I think a fourth vaccination is a step too far even though I have other health problems. Think I'll wait and see how things pan out.

Alegrias1 Sun 23-Jan-22 20:13:50

I could post link after link about how the vaccines remain effective for significantly more than a "handful of weeks". While protection against catching the virus reduces over time the protection against serious illness and hospitalisation, and eventually death, remains.

Our esteemed PM hasn't decided that the virus no longer holds risks for us. Since so many of us have been vaccinated, the virus holds a lot less risk for most of us. Subtle difference. But its all because of the vaccines.

Please get your vaccine if you need it. We've come a long way, don't blow it now.

Daftbag1 Sun 23-Jan-22 20:03:06

I am classed as extremely clinically vulnerable. I've not been offered a 4th jab and to be honest I'm losing confidence in these vaccines.

My 13yr old had Covid in November so she had to wait before having her vaccination. Meanwhile like myself, my daughter had her booster . Last week my granddaughter caught Covid AGAIN, followed by my daughter today.

I'm beginning to question the point in these vaccines. I'm sure they offer a degree of protection but I'm not sure that the protection is there for more than a handful of weeks.

Our esteemed PM has decided that Covid no longer holds risks for us, why not? If I had to shield for all those months because of the risk, why not now? Or has he just realised it will be a convenient way to get rid of us expensive beings?

maddyone Sun 23-Jan-22 12:03:40

I’ll have a fourth jab if it is decided that we need to have one, otherwise I’m not worrying about another jab at the moment.
I thought I read somewhere a few weeks ago that USA military scientists are working on a universal jab which may be available soon. Maybe someone else has some more information on that. Otherwise I’m expecting we’ll probably get an annual jab like the flu jab.

Rosalyn69 Sun 23-Jan-22 11:51:54

I’m part of the ‘extremely vulnerable’ group. It’s three months since my booster jab so I called my GP and arranged a fourth jab which I had last week. No problems at all, just profoundly grateful the NHS is looking after me so well.
Of course, I agree that we should be vaccinating Africa as well. The news reports of vaccines being thrown away as they were becomimg out of date is dreadful. Unfortunately a mixture of vaccine hesitancy and lack of infrastructure at point of delivery show how enormous the challenge is.
