Sorry folks, I forgot - it crept up on me.

Hope you find us.

Doodle feel free to delete this and start anew.

All welcome to join us for general chat and friendliness.

Jeeves will welcome you with Prosecco and Pringles.

Grammaretto Thu 28-Nov-24 22:24:09

Much better day today for me. The man turned up to collect the shells, 2 women friends came to take away unwanted furniture. I got rid of 3 odd dining chairs and a piano seat.
How did you get on with the antique dealer Nfk?
I'm glad your day went well too Doodle sounds lovely.

Pottery sales have been slow. I don't make Christmassy pots so I don't expect to sell much. I'll enjoy the fair and be tempted by other people's work. There's mince pies and shortbread too, all homemade.

Ceilidh dancing tonight was really good. Some newcomers came - a woman from Slovenia and her partner. They were good dancers.
💃 👯‍♀️ 🕺 👯‍♂️ 💃 🕺

Doodle Thu 28-Nov-24 21:34:47

Thanks for the positive thoughts Grammaretto
Glad you got through the day
How have sales been going? There are quite a lot of Christmas fairs on. I’m longing to go to one but I always seem to be doing something else.
*Oh goodness Kaimoana you don’t do things by halves do you.
How are you feeling today? Glad you got prompt treatment*
Dear Cherry, I don’t like to think of you as needing more treatment. You have enough to cope with. Hope it all goes ok
Yes church was lovely thank you. Art today and I enjoyed that too.
This afternoon was knitting but the heating was on in the church so not too bad.
Take care all

CherryCezzy Wed 27-Nov-24 21:18:25

Heck Kaimoana, I don't like the sound of your fall one bit. I'm hoping you are mistaken and haven't broken any more bones in your toes. 🤞 Bleeding too, I don't like the sound of that. I hope that's fairly superficial despite the fact that it looked like a lot of blood. I promise to be gentle with the cwtch I'm sending you.

Far from the easiest day for you, Grammaretto, sitting through your DS' funeral too 💐 xx.
So annoying to sit waiting in for someone who's a no show. At least you're not out of pocket.

Naughtyneine, snap. That's the next hospital department I will be visiting too-- is it a Welsh thing I wonder-- courtesy of my visit to A&E a couple of weeks ago. I hope you don't have to wait very long before your referral comes through,
I love the conversation between Finlay and Storm, Finlay has been so observant. 🤣 😂

ixion, your Aunt sounds like a force of nature, made of stern stuff, they don't make many like her anymore I don't think.
Yes, it is already 'next week'. My appointment is tomorrow, and yes, a day case.

It sounds like you've had a pretty good couple of days Doodle. It's great that you and the other grandma get on so well and I know Wednesdays, because they are church days and the church is your happy place that today you'd have that peace. How lovely to come home to a gift from a friend today.
Yes, you're absolutely right, of course our team are the Hammers. ⚒️

I hope you get rid of that chest of drawers, Nfk. 🤞

NotSpaghetti, I'm pleased that you seem to be getting back on an even keel. I hope so anyway.

ixion Wed 27-Nov-24 21:13:46

Apologies, Kaimoana.
My misunderstanding.
I read posting the link as a sort of preview within the existing thread for when the time came to move on, not that they were intending to run concurrently.

Kaimoana2 Wed 27-Nov-24 21:05:49

Yes ixion I know it's live, which is why I asked everyone not to use it!
If others unknowingly stop by and comment in the new thread , I can't help that. They'll be talking into an empty room.

Blood came from grazed toe knuckles that's all. We always have an attendant nurse at the Marae, she was quickly on the scene and bandaged me so I looked as if I had a gouty foot like an Old India hand grin That was more to prevent my blood stainig the parquet floor of the whareniu smile.

Thanks Doodle for asking GN to add the lobsters as markers.

Grammaretto Wed 27-Nov-24 20:12:48

Thank you lovely Lobstars for your constant kindness.
And humour too.
What have I done today? Hmm not a lot. I waited in this evening for the guy who commissioned ceramic shells about 2 years ago. They're made and paid for but he didn't turn up. I did a few more rows of the sweater I'm working on.

I packed the kiln too ready for the next and last craft fair this Friday.

It does get easier Doodle and Nfk in many ways though I still get overcome by sadness sometimes. Not too much today though I sat through the funeral on line my son's friend which looked deeply moving though I couldn't hear the proceedings.

Ixion do you have any Scottish forebears? Scotland's people keep telling me I have 30 credits to use up pdq so if I can look up something for you, let me know.
I wonder what Jeeves has made tonight. Thanks for the viscount biscuits 😋

Doodle Wed 27-Nov-24 19:51:34

Grammaretto nice to see your son but sorry for the circumstances. It’s so nice the younger people support their friends at times like this
How have you been today on the fourth anniversary .
I found 6 months quite difficult but kept myself busy. Have you had any quiet time for your own thoughts?
Im sending a cwtch too
Naughtyneine I hope your appointment is ok and all goes well
Thank you for that lovely post you had me in stitches 🤣🤣🤣
Notspaghetti, six levels 😱, wow. That’s a lot of stairs.
I stayed in a Travellodge which used robot vacuums. It was quite disconcerting to come out of the room in the morning and have a whirring gadget chase me down the corridor
Kaimoana oh you poor lady. What a dreadful tumble. How are you, where did all the blood come from? Are you ok?
Do hope that lady is still going to help you sort out your pension despite the run around
Notspaghetti I’m glad you are feeling a bit more upbeat
Our team is a bit of a joke because like you, I know nothing about football but adopted the same team as Ixion and Cherry when Cherry started writing the most amazing game reports.
I think it’s West Ham……Hammers isn’t it? I will likely be hammered if I’ve got it wrong 😱
NFK a group hug, cutch, cwtch sounds just the thing 😊
Ixion what a title. Does it come with gown and sceptre?
* How much data have you got on the family tree? Are you a big family?*
Ive had a lovely day today. Church with coffee and chat after then round to friends for coffee this afternoon.
Came home to find a dear friend had sent me a very generous and thoughtful gift. So kind and lovely
Art tomorrow and then knit and natter

ixion Wed 27-Nov-24 19:49:20

Darn🤦‍♀️.
Think I'm washing my hair, Doodle🤔

Only kidding.

Doodle Wed 27-Nov-24 19:30:02

Kaimoana thanks for starting up the new thread. I’ve asked GNHQ to put our lobster icons at the beginning and end and delete the thread without. Hopefully no one will post on either of them till we’ve finished here, swept up, run the hoover over and put the dishes away.

ixion Wed 27-Nov-24 19:21:07

Good gracious, Kaimoana - what on earth have you been up to? How is your walking? Have you strapped those toes? And I'm not sure where the blood has come from - superficial, I hope. Good that someone younger and fitter is doing the heavy lifting for your pension and hoping that she has the tenacity to see it through!

I hope that Cherry, too, is recovering and that NS is improving in mind and body🌺.

Is it really 4 years ago, Grammaretto? Crumbs, that's about how long then I have been in the club gang with you all. I hope today's anniversary has been kind to you.

Not pleasant, NN, all that poking and prodding you are being referred for. I hope that your evident sense of humour will be close by your side throughout.

I have oft thought that my dear Aunt-by-marriage is very similar to Grammaretto's and NS' DMILs. I rang today and she had just finished off loading and rearranging the log store.
When I feel particularly cronkie, I think of these nonagenarians and the example they set. I keep her (and her family memories) close to me as she's all I've got left of that generation on either side of my family.
More sobering is the thought that I have now been nominated as the (maternal) family's chief archivist amongst my cousins. As the oldest girl - with the longest memory - I guess that was inevitable. Actually, I think jt was because I was on the receiving end of the most amount of tut memorabilia when my DM died.

NfkDumpling Wed 27-Nov-24 17:10:18

Evening All

*Just dropping by to give Grammaretto a gentle cutch. (A Norfolk one, suspected to be via Wales a couple of generations ago.) I'm glad you were out and about today.
Since we're virtual I suppose we could have a group cutch/cwtch as so many of our gang have problems at the moment.*

It's been depressingly dark, wet and miserable here. Roll on summer. I would like to do what my Australian cousin does and head for the other side of the world to avoid winter. He has a few spare rooms, but I've just been reading about the heatwave they're having and I don't think I'd like it any better!

I love your evesdropped pet conversation Naughtyneine. I have actually just vacuumed round downstairs as the bloke from the local antique shop is coming to look at a small surplus-to-requirements chest of drawers I want to dispose of. I am at a snail's pace efficiently emptying cupboards and drawers with the plan being to eventually move to somewhere smaller and on one level. This house isn't big, but it is a house and not well laid out. If, once emptied the item doesn't move out quickly, I know I'll only fill it again. I'm dreading how much compost there will be when he moves the chest out from the wall.

Grammaretto Wed 27-Nov-24 14:56:24

Goodness me Kaimoana What have you been up to! I hope the damage isn't as bad as it sounds. Broken toes, blood everywhere! 😲

Take great care of yourself please.
What a pest about the reduced pension! That's so unfair.

Poor Naughtyneine I hope your medical appointment journey goes well.

All the talk of domestic goddesses. Can I have one please.

Yarn group and lunch afterwards was very nice today. One df was at a very sad funeral yesterday so we were all missing someone today.

I'll stick to this thread until it runs out.

NotSpaghetti Wed 27-Nov-24 11:36:08

Kaimoana2 I hope you are OK after the fall incident and that the quantity of blood didn't signify!

CherryCezzy how disappointing to have another seizure - especially as things were going well.

ixion - I think your aunt would get on well with my mother-in-law who is playing cards with a friend today after her appointment at the opticians.

Doodle I'm often wondering which is "your" team? I'm assuming football but confess I don't follow it closely.

Grammaretto - thinking of you especially today 💕

Thank you all for wishing me well. I have been another one down in the dumps a bit but "on the up" now - thank goodness! I do hate it when I can't do what I want and when things feel stagnant.
Thank you all
💐

*Advance Notice:*

With 30 or so posts still to go before we hit out next 1,000 - and with Doodle's permission, I've done the template for a new thread.
but PLEASE DON'T use it until this one has finished.

Because we have new friends posting now, we have rocketed along lately and I didn't want to log on one day and find we had ended in a cul de sac with nowhere to go but up the creek grin
I'll post the link a bit later.

Today was good until I had quite a bad fall at the Marae which made everyone but me panic because there was such a lot of blood. All very dramatic.

I may have broken more toe bones.

The lady who was helping to sort out my drastically reduced pension payment has been given a right royal run around so we are no wiser, which is possibly what was intended.

However, the iron has entered my soul........

I think you've gone 'live' already, Kaimoana, despite the 40-odd posts here still remaining🤔

www.gransnet.com/forums/coronavirus/1342813-Lockdown-Friends-Still-Together

Please could we have the 🦞 emoji back in the thread title again? So much easier to locate in the 'Last Day' thread lists.

Ta!

NotSpaghetti Wed 27-Nov-24 11:18:08

Naughtyneine sorry about your needing a colorectal appointment- but hope it goes OK.
😣
At least you have one!
...*and* an appointment!

I think my domestic goddess is your opposite twin - my mother was like you - and God help anyone who needed things out of a cupboard when friends were over!

My way is to have beautifully organised cupboards but all the stuff that needs attention could be anywhere else but it's in full view - and in big piles!

I like hanging washing out but not much else. I've invested in robot vacuums which set themselves off and mooch about for a while. I love them.
Unfortunately, as it's an old terraced property, our house is on an astonishing six levels (plus 2 half-way type landings) so the vacuums don't cover everywhere but they do the areas where we have new wool carpets... in an attempt to prevent moths!

Grammaretto
is it ok to offer a cwtch? I am inspired by your zest for life and filling every day.
Ixion...I think I'd like to be like your aunt....not too sure about Keats...I might still be spouting about x now lakes and river meanders.
Notspaghetti..I hope you feel more positive soon. I hate those feelings.
Cherry....I really hope that you have had all three of the 'things that can go wrong' and good things now await.
Kaimoana..Gubbins has good taste in cakes it seems.
I've now been referred to the colorectal team...oh joy...but at least the house work can definitely be put on reduced hours. I found my post re previous attempts at Domestic Goddess glory. As you'll see nothing has changed.

I could hear the conversation between Storm and Finlay as they sat at the top of the stairs and watched me remove a cat sized load of fluff off each step with that fabulous tool thing that every pet household should have...it went like this..
Finlay....Bro what is she doing?

Storm...stay put little one... It's called housework ..she is either ill or more likely people are expected anytime soon. Either way she is dangerous....she hates housework and avoids it if she can and would much rather be in the garden or baking.

Finlay....why does she do it then?

Storm....because she likes to think that she is some sort of domestic goddess in the eyes of the people that come and visit.

Finlay...isn't she?

Storm..you have a lot to learn... Never venture into a cupboard and if anyone opens a drawer...run for your life. My advice to you today is lie low... Don't be tempted to sink those baby teeth into her heel when she is on her hands and knees scrubbing the bathroom floor. Take a leaf out of Ned's book and pretend to be unconscious as sure as eggs are eggs it's going to get messy and block your ears when she screams...'How can a dog shed SO much hair and not be bald'

Finlay....eek...she actually screams?

Storm.... That's just the beginning...if it really goes tits up she starts muttering words no self respecting fur shedding...mud spreading..tissue shredding dog ever wants to hear.

Finlay...oooh what's that?

Storm.... Where is the nearest Dogs Trust?

Finlay... How long does all this last?

Storm... Until all the visitors have gone... Then she reverts to her usual slutty housewife role and we get patted and cuddled and given treats galore.

Finlay...I think I'll just creep in to this corner and look cute.

Storm....wise move... I'm just going to creep upstairs to the bedroom and shred a few more tissues before all hell breaks loose.

Good evening Lobstars.
A fair cluster of news stories as ever!
It was nice to see DS this afternoon though he couldn't stay long. He's on his way north to the funeral of his best friend's mum.

Tomorrow is the 4th anniversary of DH'S death. Not sure what I'll be doing but yarn group in the morning and I'm delivering some ceramics in the afternoon. I made these things for an architect 2 years ago but it's taken this long for the building to be ready for them
That should have been a warning 🤣😂

Sorry you had to suffer a seizure in public, in daytime Cherry
I hope you sleep well tonight.

You and the other gran. Doodle makes me giggle. It's the other DGs birthday tomorrow and like you, we can chat forever about our wonderful DGD.

I love the sound of your aunt, ixion. Reminds me of my much missed DMiL who died last year aged 98. On the day before she died she was reciting Keats poetry; Much have I travelled in the realms of gold.....

I miss her.

I am glad you had a nice time with your DS and Gubbins Kaimoana. Make the most of every opportunity is my mantra. 😆

I am glad to hear our team won!
What is Jeeves making? I hope it's hot chocolate .

Doodle Tue 26-Nov-24 20:16:38

Ixion, our two granddaughters are away at university but our grandson is still at home not far away. As long as they’re happy that’s ok.
Ive been for lunch with other grandma today. We share the two granddaughters so have much to talk about which is why we were there for 3 hours 😱
Your 94 year old aunt sounds youthful and full of life, good for her
Fancy us winning when I wasn’t there to cheer our team on
Oh Cherry I’m so sorry and after you’d had a nice walk with friends too. Are you ok? Hope you’re not hurt. Do your friends know how to help if you have a seizure?
I hope you do manage to sleep. Insomnia is awful especially when it’s night after night. Sending a gentle hug to you too

Doodle Tue 26-Nov-24 20:05:34

Kaimoana what a sad/ sweet time you had with DS and Gubbins. Her little face and ways must fill you with joy. What a delightful young lady she’s turned into. I know you will miss them both so much. I’m sending you the biggest hug.
DH loved chocolate ears too 😊

ixion Tue 26-Nov-24 19:29:43

🍒Noooooo.😢
So sorry to hear this.
I hope it wasn't due to the excitement of that win last night.
Look after yourself.
Hugs🌺

CherryCezzy Tue 26-Nov-24 19:22:58

Just a short message from me. Like you Kaimoana, I've been insomniacal and am pretty much exhausted now. I hardly slept last night but due to meet up with friends this morning down at the marina and thinking it might help to get out (fresh sea air and all that) would do me good (and help me sleep better tonight) I went. We had a lovely walk along the sea front then decided to check out a new bar/restaurant nearby. We sat down, ordered coffee, then shortly after the waiter brought them ... Bam! 🤦‍♀️ Another bl○○dy seizure 😤. I probably won't sleep tonight now. 🙄

I'm pleased you saw your DS and Gubbins yesterday, Kaimoana. 😊

I'm sorry to hear that things are difficult for you at the moment, NotSpaghetti. 💐

I you are okay Grammaretto 💐 and that goes for you ixion, Jan, Naughtyneine, Nfk and, of course, ou too Doodle.
Thinking of you all.

ixion Tue 26-Nov-24 19:22:31

Look on the bright side, Kaimoana. DS will be driving on the left over here too so no additional worry about which side to drive on.
Is he over on business or pleasure?
I have a grainy photo somewhere of me on the grass pouring tea from my dollies' tea set to three senior generations, my Mum, grandma and great grandma.

Do you have another helper pre-Christmas, Grammaretto? Your NZ helper sounds resourceful and I hope she will settle and be happy in her Edinburgh pad. Will she go home for Christmas? You will be in for a busy run up to Christmas with pottery work and hosting the family.

Our Team actually won last night, you will be pleased to know. Bubbles floated in shock celebration but a long way to go yet.

How was your day, Doodle? I think it was a good idea to put up your tree and decorations and hope that they give you some solace as darkness falls. Have all your grandchildren moved away now to work or study? Oxford will a lovely base to study - and to visit!

Well, Cherry, it's last week's 'next week' now. I hope - in a funny sort of way - that you have a time and date for your impending surgery. Will you be done as a day case?🤞
Sending positive vibes.

Trying to get in touch with my 94 year old aunt (she who was not liberally held together with gaffer tape as reported yesterday) as unsuccessful yesterday. It transpires she was out at Waitrose, neither could she chat this afternoon as her friend Debbie was coming round for afternoon tea. This is she who, until recently, sang with the church choir. We go and sing for the old people, you know 🤣

Kaimoana2 Tue 26-Nov-24 18:33:54

I'm actually feeling much cheerier NotS since DS visited yesterday and was so reassuring.

Now all I have to worry about is them driving on UK's deadly and totally unfamiliar motorways for two months in winter and/or getting hit by a drunken druggie driver. Not much really grin

NotSpaghetti Tue 26-Nov-24 09:29:11
