Sorry folks, I forgot - it crept up on me.

Hope you find us.

Doodle feel free to delete this and start anew.

All welcome to join us for general chat and friendliness.

Jeeves will welcome you with Prosecco and Pringles.

Kaimoana2 Tue 26-Nov-24 05:05:58

Gubbins has a real Kiwi accent now.
Today I gave her a mini eclair, which to me rhymes with pear or stair.

She says it to rhyme with 'peer' or 'ear' indeed she thought it was something to do with ears. 'I like these ears'! smile

Kaimoana2 Tue 26-Nov-24 01:16:55

They do indeed NotS and elbows. So next time you meet one, ask it to curtsey smile

Very unexpected visit from DS & Gubbins this morning. Meant cancelling my trip to the Elders group but I'd much rather see them, especially as this will be the last time until after 26th January next year. If I think of it as "just 61 days and a bit" it doesn't feel so bad.

As usual, Gubbins wanted bacon and her favourite sweet corn fritters - I made the gluten free this time.

Then we all had 'tea' using her doll's tea set with 'real life food' (rather than the plastic cakes supplied) toast and chopped banana - with blackberry juice to drink.

She's an attentive hostess but will fill up the cup the instant you've finished.
I think I had about 8 cups.
She ate all the toast and banana though so maybe a few hostess rules still to learn.
grin

Doodle lovely that you got to see your grand-daughter and glad she's doing well.
Yes, I did get a replacement for Karen, a very sweet girl called Delsia.

Ninety minutes into our 3 hours together she received a call to say her sister (one of 5) was in hospital.

That morning she'd had a fluttery heart (probably AF like me)
So Delsia was already worried about her when she got here but after a comforting call with another sister, sped off, a little panicky but safe to drive.

Tomorrow I am expecting a delivery of Sunflowers and tomatoes from a local community garden, so when Aatoa comes in the morning, we'll go buy some plastic pots at the $2 shop.

Next year, I hope to show Mila how they turn their faces to the sun as it moves. At 4, she's not up to understanding Heliathus but I'll tell her anyway grin

DO penguins have knees???

Doodle Mon 25-Nov-24 22:53:41

Notspaghetti nice to hear from you. Sorry you’ve not been feeling to great. Hope things improve soon
Thank you for your kind words about my little tattered red rose. I too don’t like background music. I don’t like a lot of noise.
Grammaretto, like Cherry I too think it’s around 4 years you’ve been without your DH. I’d like to think things are a bit easier for you now but I’m not sure that’s really the case.
i hope you get yourself a nice new home where you want it and how you want it
I think I remember your kiwi helper was staying long term. Will she be close to you and still visit perhaps?
Kaimoana a thoughtful post. I do hope the agency supply someone to help you while Karen is away especially as it will be for such a long time
Hard to think of it being hot there as it’s so cold and wet here
Poor little duck. At least he had the luck to land at your door. *Perhaps this could be the basis of another book
Sorry about the insomnia. It’s awful being awake so much. I hope you have a better night tonight.
Ixion I’m one who uses a lot of tape when wrapping presents. Usually because I never learn and buy things with sticking out bits that are impossible to wrap.
Good luck in the terraces. Hope our team win. It’s too wet out for me so I’m staying in with my Pringles
Had a reasonable Monday today, the first one for many months. Tomorrow I’m taking other grandma out to lunch.
Thinking of all will troubles, worries and ill health and sending a big hug to everyone

Doodle Mon 25-Nov-24 22:35:36

Hi Cherry. Sorry I missed your post yesterday I think ours crossed
Granddaughter is getting on well. She’s got some nice flat mates and is enjoying the work. Looking forward to coming home for Christmas though. (Just in case of misunderstandings she’s not at Oxford University but is at university in Oxford 🤔)

ixion Mon 25-Nov-24 19:32:47

Good to catch up with everyone's news, mixed bag that it was.
Warm thoughts to all those finding bits of life difficult to negotiate at the mo.

Today should have been one of festive gift wrapping and parcel construction. I made the error of delegating the parcelling to Mr.I to encourage inclusivity in the run up to Christmas. Each parcel became a labour of love, a work of art even😴.
Liberally held together with wide gaffer tape, I worry for my 94 year old Aunt, who undoubtedly will be unable to tackle the opening by herself.

We are on the Terraces tonight, cheering on Our Team. Fat chance of a win (as per usual) but we shall go through the motions anyway. Must away and check that my Match Buddy has filled her hipflask.

Don't you think that this photo shows the most useless/tasteless of Christmas decorations - unless you know better?😁
(Helpful tip - it's wall mounted🤷‍♀️)

ixion Mon 25-Nov-24 19:09:22

Insomnia, Kaimoana?
You're not alone😉

Kaimoana2 Mon 25-Nov-24 18:21:43

So much of what you wrote above is true for me too NotS.
The intrusive music, the irritations which pile up, eventually weighing down the spirits.

Most organisations here have their Christmas 'do' in November because by December, right through to February and March, people are away on summer holidays.
Depending on how long they have worked to accrue time off, this can be for several weeks, as with Karen.

In the old days, firms would simply close down. Hence the quip, "I went to NZ but it was closed" grin
Hard to imagine now.

Summer is officially from 1st December to February 28th but the warm-to-hot weather lasts far longer than that.

Depending on where you live, Labour Day, 28th October generally signals the start of really good weather after heavy rain in September.
Even so, there are few days in the year without some sunshine sunshine sunshine. smile

As for Easter, not much fuss is made of that.
Eggs are in the shops now but so far, commercial interests have not made Easter into the brouhaha we see at Christmas. Probably because people are still paying off their credit cards grin

I do hope things brighten for you NotS - and indeed everyone - it is so miserable to drag from day to day with that awful churning of the tummy - and helpless to do anything to change things.
But even that will change - eventually, so chin up Lass and keep smiling when you can.

Grammaretto all I could see was a rather scruffy man wittering on - was I supposed to see nice houses?

Yesterday there was a huge thump on the side of the house, which shook as if someone had just thrown a wet Labrador at it.
It turned out to be a duck which I caught easily despite it yelling blue murder and probably imagining I was going to exile it to Niue.

I've been at my computer since 4am - I am still trying to work on the last chapter of the book with a vague hope someone might be interested in it come 2025.

Might as well put insomnia to good use eh? wink

NotSpaghetti Mon 25-Nov-24 08:13:06

Grammaretto thank you!
Just thinking of you and the housing situation - you fill me with admiration the way you cram so much into life when so much seems to be out of your control
You generally remain so chirpy!
I'm trying to remind myself to look for the small joys!
💃🏿

NotSpaghetti Mon 25-Nov-24 08:07:07

Doodle, how fitting to have your "perfect" little red foil rose with you in these dark days...battered and mended but still full of love. You will have that precious token "keeping you company" over the next few weeks, hopefully a gentle reminder of happy times and as a symbol of the years and family joys you shared.
🌹

Grammaretto Mon 25-Nov-24 08:00:03

Good to read your posts but sorry it seems all of us have some pain or sadness to report.
I blame the time of year. Though that doesn't work for the Kiwis.
DS in NZ has about finished the granny annex/ sleepover. Day 227 of the build......
My wicked DC sent this video.
If you watch it, you'll see what I'm up against!
What they forget is I need to move soon and I'm not getting younger. I don't have all the time in the world.

Whether or not I build my wee eco house or buy something, I can't carry on here without DH for ever.

Yesterday was weirdly warm , t shirts almost, when I delivered Kiwi girl to her new room. It's eye watering expensive but apparently it's the going rate.
I'm glad you had such a social day Doodle.
I'm sending good wishes to all Lobstars but specially to Jan, NotSpag and BJones. Good to see you posting again despite your ailments.

I hope Kaimoana has another, longer seaside trip soon.

NotSpaghetti Mon 25-Nov-24 07:50:28

Cherry - how very annoying to be so close to surgery and then another wait! I think you are an exceptionally patient patient
flowers
I do understand that sometimes something happens and procedures must be cancelled but it seems you have been waiting for quite a while now.

On a positive note I hope your new vacuum cleaner is a nice easy one. I have struggled to find a "stick" sort that I like in terms of weight and maneuverability.

NotSpaghetti Mon 25-Nov-24 07:35:57

I also enjoyed the videos but had to turn the sound off in the garden one. Maybe they thought birdsong wasn't enough.
I seem to find background music more of an annoyance as I get older. And it often seems to be the wrong sort

NotSpaghetti Mon 25-Nov-24 07:27:54

Kaimoana2 I just can't imagine a Christmas lunch in November! I suppose it's trying to fit everything into not a lot of time!... or maybe I missed something?

I suppose you can look forward to Easter activities soon though Kaimoana2!

Your short but perfect little trip to the beach sounds truly magical. I think a few of us need those few minutes of warm respite at the moment. We all need reminding of the beauty out there sometimes

NotSpaghetti Mon 25-Nov-24 07:19:41

Jan16 - good news your daughter is out of hospital and recovering - but not so good when mobility makes everything so hard. This is especially true when you want to be useful- but keeping spirits up is useful too 💐

I sometimes don't do things because they just seem overwhelmingly difficult. For me it's generally if I have to move things around a lot, or balance amongst things like blushes on uneven ground... but years ago when my arthritis was at its worst pain-wise I struggled with everything it seems.

Wishing your daughter is properly mended soon Jan - and that her worries about her voice are unfounded. I expect it will sound odd to her for a while as, aside from the surgery I expect she's not been using it so much recently.

NotSpaghetti Mon 25-Nov-24 07:04:17

Good day my friends, I am sorry I've been absent but I think I've been a bit out of sorts lately... Lots of small things have transpired to make me not want to talk about myself. I've been around and about a bit but lots of (pointless) things are niggling away.

Today I'm determined to "pull myself together" and stop faffing about.

Yes Ixion, I remember Loons. I remember a particular summer of them, beautiful young men and excited young women "hanging out" together of an evening on a perfect Welsh beach, chatting on the headland, making fires and playing music to the early hours.
Loons will always make me think of summer days, sand and bikinis!

Kaimoana2 Mon 25-Nov-24 05:50:23

Cherry! shock tart = brusque, snappy even sarcastic.

A tart wink on the other hand, is quite different and I would never presume to imply your sashaing down the road in a red dress, flashing your legs and batting your eyes meant anything more than you were on your way to the local Methodist Teetotal Sisterhood Christmas Lunch.
grin

Doodle Sun 24-Nov-24 20:42:28

Boadicea sorry to hear you’ve been so ill. You have been busy though. Hope you’re on the mend now
Naughtyneine yes I love Soop’s buggerations. So apt in so many circumstances. Your trip sounded quite eventful. Sorry you haven’t been feeling well. Are you better now?
Hope you get to Wales on your birthday. When is it?
NFK your trip sounds lovely if a bit cold at times. I love lights I bet it was pretty. Glad you got home ok
Jan have you got a rollator or something to support you when you walk. DH had one and found it helped him keep his balance a bit
not been as cold today as I though but I’ve got really wet a couple of times getting from car to shops.
Kaimoana I’ve had a good weekend thanks. Son took me to visit younger granddaughter yesterday and today I had coffee with one friend and lunch with another. Came home and in a fit of defiance decided to put some baubles and lights on my little tree. That’s my token attempt at Christmas this year, our little red foil rose which has been on our every Christmas tree for 54 years is now held together with sellotape but is still on top of our tree,

CherryCezzy Sun 24-Nov-24 20:36:56

Apart from what sounds like horrendous weather it sounds like you had a lovely yesterday, Doodle. It must have been wonderful to spend time with your DGD2. How is she getting on in Oxford, may I ask.

Naughtyneine, I'm sorry to hear you haven't well. It couldn't have been easy travelling to work in such discomfort. I hope you recover swiftly from this latest bout.
I'm hardly a domestic goddess either, people have said I'm a good cook but housework 🤔 - I went to use our last vacuum cleaner once, about 2 years after we got it and had to get my WP to show me how to turn it on. 😉 🤣

Nfk, I think you're made of hardy stuff going off in your camperbubble this time of year! I take my hat off to you. I'm glad you thoroughly enjoyed your trip.

Kaimoana, 🤣 moi, a tart. 😯 😂 You're right, I never could master any hint of tartiness even if I'd have wanted to. 🤣 It's rather disappointing that the cherry tart didn't help you sleep. A case of not living up to the hype methinks. I hope you sleep well tonight. 🤞

How are you, Grammaretto? If I'm not mistaken it's only a matter of a day or two now that it will be 4 years since your DH died. I hope you are not feeling too sad x. 💐

Kaimoana2 Sun 24-Nov-24 19:43:42

Hope you had a fairly peaceful weekend Doodle. Keep warm and cosy. flowers

Nfk At least it was your own cold nose which woke you, not Kira's.

NN oh gosh, you are in the wars but I suspect your FB post on cleaning would be totally redundant here, we all know that particular hassle grin

I had a fairly typical weekend: no visitors just eat, sleep, knit.

Although I didn't sleep well at all.
I tried a new soporific, tart cherry, thinking all the time of our own dear Cherry whom I'm sure would never be tart wink even with the shouty woman next door.

It didn't work, either to put me to sleep or keep me there.

Maybe I'm expecting too much? I took the pharmacist's word that this was the best thing for sleep since a swift kick to the head but perhaps I should read up on it a bit.
I'm told it's good for gout as well.
I don't have gout.
Have I wasted me dosh?

Jan16 Sun 24-Nov-24 18:00:00

Nfk Don’t have a buggy mostly because I’m an awkward old b…ar and keep expecting a miracle which will suddenly help me walk as I used too! Mmmmmm!
Pleased you enjoyed Sandringham - you should have called in for a coffee/tea/glass of wine!
Yes has been so cold but today the car registered 16! Bizarre. BoadiceaJones poor you what a list of illnesses. Really hope you’re feeling better now.
Hope everyone has had a good weekend and think we might actually see some sun tomorrow!

NfkDumpling Sun 24-Nov-24 17:04:47

Good evening All

At least it feels like evening, as it's practically dark. I hate this time of year. Thank you so much for the uplifting videos of Stan W, Kaimoana. Especially the second one. The trouble is one easily leads to another and I don't get anything done. I'm supposed to be checking my finances.

I left Kira with DS last Thursday and took myself off with my other camper buddies to Sandringham to see the Luminate lights on Friday. We were so incredibly lucky. Cold overnight, very, very cold, but very lucky on the day. (Didn't help that my heating stopped at two in the morning, my cold nose waking me up! Luckily after letting it cool down it was ok again.) Jeeves brought me a hot chocolate before bed and then zoomed off to the nearest hostelry. I had thick jimjams, bed socks and a hottie so I was snug inside my sleeping bag, but it was a challenge when I had to get out to reach the control panel!

The lights were a beautiful experience. If you have a buggy and can get there Jan, it is worth it. Bumpy in places, but doable. Most of the path is well trodden bark chippings. I came home very early yesterday just as the wind was getting buffeting, but Camperbubble took it all in stride.

Naughtyneine Sun 24-Nov-24 09:55:01

I'm catching up on everyone's news while listening to the wind howling and biblical rain battering the cottage just now. We had a power cut earlier but luckily it was restored in time for tea in bed!!!. Phew. I did manage to travel up to Surrey for work ....it was very touch and go up until about 2pm on Friday ( train booked for 4pm). I've had bouts of IBS/Diverticulitis in the past (normally brought on by stress) but the discomfort this time had me nearly passing out. Luckily the other normal symptoms were not in evidence if you know what I mean ...thankfully. The weather was appalling and I felt so sorry for my team who were working outside but we did manage to finish early and I was able to get a train home 3 hours earlier. I'm still sore but less so

Kaimoana... How utterly uplifting to see thousands upon thousands of people making their feelings known..standing firm against changes to their heritage. I pray the government listen....
Jan...no wonder you are down... This time of year doesn't help either. It's hard too having to maybe accept that things will never be as they were before... especially health-wise and finding the age induced limitations are a buggeration. ) pinched from Soop in Soops kitchen but it oh so fits.
I was driving from Wellington to Rotorua the day after David Bowie died and half way across the most scenic views the clouds came down and as they did so the realisation that I would never be that 17 year old in her blue platform boots in love for the first time singing along to Starman ever again and oh my goodness the tears were a bit like the rain outside the window just now. Luckily the road was deserted as I'm really not sure how I managed to drive....but I did...as life goes on...even when we don't want it to.
Cherry...you have had your share of the bugg......ns this week...but hey a new hoover to look forward to ( tongue in cheek as I write that). A domestic goddess I am not...if I can find my FB
post about cleaning I'll put it on so you can see what I mean.
Ixion...good luck with the squares...I read Grammaretto advice twice but still didn't get it...I'll have to stick to crochet methinks.
Grammaretto...eek to your roof and loss of power cut your D....I hope that your roof stays on and the power comes on very soon.

Kaimoana...I meant to say that I'm really pleased that you got to the beach. I think I must have been a mermaid in a previous life ( I know they don't exist but the alternative was a seal and not nearly so glamorous) because it's the only place where I truly relax and feel at peace. There is a notion afoot that we might take Henrietta Moho to my favourite place in West Wales so I can walk the beach on my birthday. I'll keep you posted. Love to you all.

BoadiceaJones Sat 23-Nov-24 20:58:51

Hi everyone, and apologies for not reading all the posts...but I will do so toot sweet. Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas season to come!
Finally coming right after long covid/heart issues/pacemaker/fall and injuries/confinement in chair for quite some time. However, I haven't wasted it: my babies!!
