Anyone else got covid right now

Other half and I just came down with the dreaded lurgy. I’ve had it four times now, my OH has had it 2 times. Right now feeling ropy, a fever last night, aching limbs and sore throat. Cough just started.
Was floored for weeks last time, hoping it doesn’t affect me like that this time. But am not holding my breath. Haven’t had a jab for over a year if not longer. My OH is in seventies so got the jab in autumn last year and again this year. I am in late sixties so last got a jab when they did over 65s. Apparently this autumn are doing over 64s. But hey ho have got it now.
Is only 8 years between myself and my other half so am annoyed that there has been this disparity in the vaccination programme.
Hopefully he will fare better.
Will wait and see xx

We both had Covid for the 3rd time last month and possibly RSV as well as constant sneezing was a feature for days.... Had to sleep separately as coughing bouts and sneezings did not synchronise. Did test as neighbor's daughter off school with Covid. I had thought it was Hay Fever! Had some post viral issues - sweating and brain fog but OK now. DH less unwell as had had booster at the beginning of the year as he is 75. Apparently I must wait till December as I am 14 months younger...and despite the fact that DH is designated 'vulnerable' by NHS!... Have both had RSV vaccination recently and I also opted for the 2 Shingles vacinations as well having been very ill with Chicken Pox as a child. I mention all this as I have noticed a growing suspicion and resentment regarding "all these jabs." Get well soon!

I will have the jab when it’s offered. I’ve had all the jabs when they’ve been offered. Only had Covid once but I was hospitalised with it.

DD3 and DSil have just had it for the 2nd time in 3 months.

Thanx for replies.
Am not too bad during the day so far but at night I imagine I will be rock and rolling 😟

I think me and DH may have it but our test packs have expired so can't test. I'm certainly exhausted, chesty cough, sore throat, sore muscles etc etc. It's horrible

NHS booking system for covid 19 vaccination has opened today for 65 and over. Just booked DH and myself in at a local surgery. Plenty of local venues available to us plus times. There was also an option to have flu and covid jabs at the same time.

Hope you recover soon Babs03 💐
We have a few cases in my care home at the mo and the cough sounds really bad.The strange thing about Covid is that it hits people quite differently in the symptoms.

Aveline Mon 23-Sept-24 14:59:43

DH's cough is incredibly loud and hard. We all jump when he starts. My head throbs when I cough so I try not to but it's very difficult.

DD and granddaughter brought it back from London in July. I caught it from them. I had the most horrendous cold symptoms, lost my sense of taste and smell, and had a hacking cough.
Even now I still have the occasional bout of coughing. I was due to have an endoscopy which was cancelled.

Thanx for good wishes x

We got it at a funeral. Dare say many others have it now too, was lots of hugging going on.
Luckily ordered new covid tests a short time ago.
X

Thanks very much for letting us know this Annypop.
I'm also younger than my husband and he's vulnerable because of his heart so I've had fewer vaccinations. Last year I tried very hard to get a Covid jab but was told no - result was that I caught it that month and spend weeks in the spare room trying to avoid passing it on.
I've just booked us both in!

The Rest is Politics is going to discuss long covid in a future podcast as they say that, as with ME it’s being brushed under the carpet.

Don't forget that a covid vaccination doesn't stop you actually catching it. It just, hopefully, mitigates the symptoms.

I still consider it to be criminal that

a) the fact that covid is airborne and can be found in aerosols which keep it in the air for hours was never properly made clear by the government and that no protection by way of air filters was given to our children in schools.

b) At some point the government decided that the pandemic was over and that no-one needed to think about it any more... It is not the same as flu; it can attack and damage any organ of the body and weaken the immune system. I think we're going to pay for this for years to come in terms of excessive ill health in the population.

We both (Mr M & I) have had it twice. I didn't have particularly bad symptoms, but it knocked Mr M out completely each time..

Annypop our surgery started sending invites out 3 weeks ago, both of us are booked in during October, flu and covid.

@cc
In my opinion older couples should have been vaccinated together regardless of a few years difference. It meant that those not as old but with OHs or partners old enough to get a jab ran the risk of getting covid badly and OHs/partners with health conditions ran the risk of not having someone to care for them. Someone told me to tick the box that said I was a carer for my husband but I refused because I didn’t want to jump the queue.
I qualify now in my late 60s but has come too late.
Thankfully my OH was jabbed this time last year and also had a booster a few months ago xx

Someone told me you could book privately for a Covid jab if you were not eligible for an NHS one. They said it cost about £80. Idk how true it is. Can anyone on GN verify?

Walkowl Mon 23-Sept-24 21:03:09

I've been completely floored. Absolutely exhausted.

Annypop Mon 23-Sept-24 21:26:14

Jaxjacky, I suppose it all depends on where you live. Our surgery offered appointments for the flu vaccination a short while ago, but not for covid 19. As appointments opened up today on the NHS site we were able to book ourselves in at a surgery in the next village. We're off to Sicily later in October and wanted to make sure we have some protection before we go.

I have refused the covid jab for the past two years.I am 80 and have COPD also cancer of the red blood cells.
Two years ago, 24 hours after my last covid vaccination I suddenly got a pulmonary embolus, was in hospital for four days. My sister and my DS's ex mother- in - law both died of this, both very sudden deaths.
I am between a rock and a hard place, the PE I suffered could or could not have been caused by the Cvid jab, but I am not taking any chances.

Oldbat1 Mon 23-Sept-24 21:49:45

Having our flu and covid injections the first Sat in Oct. Weve not ever had any covid illness. Dh is clinically vulnerable due to Stage 4 cancer.

Had the kung flu during summer. Thought was just a cold. But was told to do at home test for any URI. The latest version is milder than the original so was like a cold.
