War Horse

Richard II is on soon; I'm not a great one for Shakespeare but may try to see this one. I think the problem with Shakespeare these days is that my hearing isn't as good as it was and I sometimes struggle to catch what they're saying, whereas a cinema/theatre production is much louder. They also [I think] show the production at a later date sometimes when it's 'not live' and it's much cheaper [but I could be wrong about that]. I need to look at my brochure.

These cinema live performances are excellent. We saw Frankestein last year, brilliant. We have tickets for Warhorse at the theatre. I couldn't watch the DVD (much less go to the cinema) but hope to manage to watch the theatre production without too much weeping.

We saw it when it moved to the New London Theatre [where it is now I believe] but we're seeing it again in Birmingham soon [my daughter was desperate to see it]. It'll be interesting to see how it comes across at the cinema [and, hopefully it will be easier for a lot of schoolchildren to see it there]. I thought the film was awful. I cried all the way through the play [I even cry when I 'think' about the play].

I think the play is much better than the film so this is an excellent solution to seeing it. Take lots and lots of tissues! When we saw it at the National a few years ago there were all these middle aged men harrumphing into their hankies and pretending they had hay fever - I just bawled my eyes out.
