Having read the thread on hymns I wonder if we might enjoy a good virtual sing together? There'd be no one to complain or overhear us individually 'gieing it laldy'.
We could choose a hymn/song and set a time to start. Me in my small corner...

Great minds and all that graninthemist?

What about the Ying Tong Song?

lemongrove Tue 13-Mar-18 21:51:54

An EP! A blast from the past Jalima ?

Does anyone have an old record of Blueberry Hill ( Fats Domino) I always used to put that on jukeboxes in coffee bars and pubs.

Lemongrove, we seem to share musical taste and utter daftness! "Blackbird" is one of my favourites, and I've been known to give a mean rendition of "Right Said Fred". Other songs I have loved and murdered include "Honeybun" from S. Pacific and "Copacabana", but I'm not fussy; I'll give anything a go.

It was her head Fennel, I think the song refers to Ann Boleyn.

I used to enjoy Tom Lehrer songs when I was a teenager.
Most normal teenagers used to like Cliff Richard grin but my friend and I used to sing Tom Lehrer songs, Stanley Holloway favourites and some Scottish music which I can't remember now (oh dear)

All sorts, I shall practice being stately. The galleon part is sorted.

Oopsadaisy12 Tue 13-Mar-18 19:10:40

Fennel, His.

Fennel Tue 13-Mar-18 19:00:42

ps not sure if it was his or her head.

Fennel Tue 13-Mar-18 18:59:45

Jalima I remember "With his head tucked underneath his arm"
My Mum's Dad used to sing it. And also the Lion and Albert ( but that's not a song.)

Sheilasue Tue 13-Mar-18 18:57:18

Think I will have hum along have a terrible singing voice.

allsortsofbags Tue 13-Mar-18 18:42:40

Oopsadaisy12 I'm up for singing and dancing stately as two galleons if you are :-)

vampirequeen I now have an ear worm lol. It's usually my friend Shirley who sings that when we are on a road trip and I'm stuck with it for days. But thanks for making me smile :-)

Have a good evening folks

Ouch, banged my head, but I found it.

Has anyone got an old-fashioned record player? grin

banged my head
that reminded me of the Stanley Holloway song:
'With her head tucked underneath her arm
She walked the Bloody Tower'

lemongrove I will have a look in the understairs cupboard to find my EP of Mario Lanza singing Drink, Drink etc.

Cherrytree59 Tue 13-Mar-18 16:16:48

Love to join in but ...
when I do have occasion to burst into song, DH often remarks
'can you sing over the hill and far away?'
the farther away the better! grin

vampirequeen Tue 13-Mar-18 16:10:44

What about ...

I know a song that'll get on your nerves,
get on your nerves, get on your nerves.
I know a song that'll get on your nerves
and this is how it goes
(repeat ad nauseum)

lemongrove Tue 13-Mar-18 16:02:40

Or just the Mario Lanza song ‘Drink, drink, let the toast start’????

nipsmum Tue 13-Mar-18 15:14:00

How about "Drink to me only" that might be an appropriate one. You play and I'll join in anytime.

Gosh Gaggi, that brought back some memories, our local Methodist ministers used to set up at the bottom of our road. They called it Sunshine Corner and I used to trot along, this is one of the songs we sang, I was about 4 or possibly 5. I don't think I've heard it since.

Gaggi3 Tue 13-Mar-18 14:35:51

Jesus bids us shine,
With a pure clear light,
Like a little candle,
Burning in the night.
In this world of darkness,
So we must shine,
You in your small corner,
And I in mine.

You brought back memories of Sunday School, Jane10, though some of the words of this, I now realise, are a bit grim for tinies. The next verse talks of 'sin and want and sorrow.'

Oopsadaisy12 Tue 13-Mar-18 12:50:02

We could do stately as two galleons, can we dance as well then?

Blinko Tue 13-Mar-18 12:45:21

This all sounds like enormous fun!

allsortsofbags Tue 13-Mar-18 11:01:35

DD2 normally tells me not to sing (for good reason lol) but she says I make it through "Stately as a Galleon" as per Joyce Grenfell so I'd give it a go :-) I'm brave enough you you ladies are :-)

SueDoku Tue 13-Mar-18 10:30:18

I know masses of music hall songs, and they act as excellent lullabies - I serenade the DGC with a quick burst of 'Burlington Berty', 'Daisy Daisy' or their favourite 'Don't Jump off the Roof Dad' - and off they go to sleep (and yes, my whole family tells me that it's to escape...!) smile

Oopsadaisy12 Tue 13-Mar-18 10:26:27

Oh I was in a choir when I was 16! Alto, so usually somewhere at the back..... I also play the recorder!
Just saying.
