For many years I went to this ceremony and I do dearly miss it.

Every May 1st, wherever I am in the world, my heart and mind go back to Padstow and I relive wonderful memories of dancing with the 'Osses.

What cultural traditions do you love, follow, or even miss because you are no longer in the area?

I was only at RNAS Culdrose for a short time but I well remember Helston Flora Day. Not only is it a time for merriment and drinking it also is my birthday. (Well, when I say well remembered that’s pushing it a bit I suppose. Remember the idea of Flora Day and the crushing hangover afterwards though!)

I’d like to echo both the previous messages. Just 2 bars of either music makes my heart sing.

As a teenager I used to love the May Morning celebrations in Oxford. My friend and I would adorn our school boaters with cherry blossom and follow the Morris dancers around the city centre after hearing the choir on Magdalen Tower at 6am.
Unfortunately somebody had the idea of allowing the pubs to open and ruined the atmosphere for ever more in my opinion.

I just love the oddities of English culture
