No, I wasn’t, but DH was there before we met in ‘69 and ‘70, lucky so and so. I came across the tickets recently when I was having a lockdown sort out.

Going back to 1970 we were on beach when a few attending came along starkers and then they walked back eating ice cream.

Hi Terri. We went to Dimbola lodge about a year ago. Seemed to be a permanent exhibition of the 1970 Pop Festival. Photos. Also we climbed up hill too in 1970. Saw Jimmy Hendrix. Saw the David Bowie photo exhibition at the same time last year.Going back to 1970 we were on beach when a few attending came along starkers and then they walked back eating ice cream. Yep. I was there. I was only 17 and had to beg my parents. I went with a school friend and my parents came on the ferry with us and took us to the b&b they had booked for us. My friend and I, I am afraid, did not actually stay there. We slept in the open with the 1000s of others. I remember Hendrix at 2 am, 10 years after, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, The Doors, Joni Mitchell, Richie Havens. Tiny Tim. What an a**e. I was not persuaded to stand and applaud him. I used to have the programme and tickets. I lent them to someone and they disappeared for ever. The day after I arrived home, I started as a Management Trainee at John Lewis

When things open up again, whenever that may be, should any GNs visiting the IOW and interested in seeing a lot of pictures of that 1970 festival, I would recommend a place called Dimbola Lodge. This was once home to Julia Margaret Cameron an amazing woman and a trail blazing 19th century photographer. When we visited this house, near Freshwater Bay I think there was a lot of her fantastic work on display, a must for anyone who loves old photographs, plus many pictures from the heady days of that festival.

I nearly was bit too young, long story, but that was around a time when I was going to a lot of outdoor all day rock concerts at the Oval, Crystal Palace to name but a couple, sort of IOWs lite, no tents because of the shorter duration. Never mind my sons continued for me years later when they went to Glastonbury/Bestival/Reading returning covered in mud. See they did it properly, I always came back fairly clean

We lived in a cottage alongside the site where it was held. It was an amazing experience to witness all of it.

My abiding memories are of Tiny Tim floating past our bedroom window in a hot air balloon just as I was about to feed our three month old DS and Joan Baez's closing set which was a huge disappointment.
