Listening to music/radio

I really enjoy listening to the radio podcats when pottering about the house but seem to have run out of good ones.

I decided to look up a music station for a change but really couldn't find one that interested me. There seems like far too much choice.

Music I enjoy is a broad mix from classical to blues/folk/rock/reggae and some old pop (pre-2000!) stuff or even new stuff. I don't like to get stuck in a rut!

I'm going to pick your brains now about how you listen to music and if there are any really good radio stations (I hate adverts so the commercial ones are out) or if you have spotify playlists and how you decided what to put on them?

I am hopeless at choosing what to listen to so like the random nature of radio rather than just playing the usual CDs etc.

I listen to Boom Rock which is a subset of Boom Radio. The music is my eras of late 60s,70s and some 80s. It isn't always top ten stuff, but album tracks and is delightful

I shall give that one a listen then= thankyou.

In the end I put on a spotify reggae selection whilst tidying upstairs. It was perfect chill-out music for a sunny summer weekend!

Hopefully I will soon be out of that rut as I have a quiet week ahead!

Another fan of Boom Rock and some of Boom Radio - Graham Dene and Nicky Horne.

I also love Tony Blackburn’s Sounds Of The 60s and The Golden Hour on the iPlayer.

I have various playlists on Apple Music, and like randomness of their suggestions based on my choices.

My little Sonos Roam speaker is always by my side.

If you use YouTube to watch music it makes up playlists for you, with the songs you’ve watched and others of a similar genre, for free. I’ve got quite a few now, including a really lively one I use when I’m doing housework.

I listen to many BBC podcasts through my hearing aids whilst round the house. They come through my smartphone which I carry in a bag crossways on my body.

I subscribe to Ramblings by Clare Balding. New Storytellers series are 15 minute true stories. Being Roman by Mary Beard. The Blues Show with Cerys Matthews.

I’m never without something interesting to hear which helps with my tinnitus.

I listen to Boom Radio, but will try Boom Rock. Also, Radio Caroline Flashback on Sundays at 10am, with Ray Clark and Radio Caroline on Sundays at 5pm, also with Ray Clark. We also listen to Classic FM and BBC Radio Kent.

I've recently 'found' Dean Lewis.
He's a young Australian singer/songwriter. His songs are full of young love, breakups and young angst. There's a touching song he has written about his ill father.
His songs remind me about all those emotions, both highs and lows, we went through all those many years ago when we young.

I love the Folk on Foot podcast but it does have adverts unless you pay a small fee. I’m ploughing my way through over a hundred of them. Others I listen to are The Rest is History, Backlisted ( about books) You’re Dead to Me, Hypnogoria and Natural Histories. On the radio it’s R6 for me.

Radio Caroline. But I do like jukeboxing with my husband at night sometimes. He gets to choose a song on YouTube then I play one and so it goes on, our grown family join in when visiting. Is good fun.

If you type a year into the search function on Spotify, it will bring up a playlist of songs...I've had quite a few trips down memory lane recently!

Dont know anyone my age with my taste in music so probably no help from me. I listen to Planet Rock most of the day. No problem with same old tunes played as they play a lot of different songs. I do play my owned music, usually cds but sometimes dig out my old Rock vinyl that I will not part with. Like a lot of my sons taste in music too, Disturbed, Korn, Foo Fighters & lots of others. My friend says I have weird taste in music hence my saying I would be no help in what to listen to. Each to their own or it would be a dull old world wouldnt it?

winifred01 Tue 20-Aug-24 13:18:20

Try Boom Light.

I listen to either ‘Gold’ to take me back to my school days or ‘London Soul Radio’ for smooth jazz and soul.

I'm a volunteer with the Salisbury District Hospital's online radio station, Radio Odstock. We play from classical and choirs to heavy rock, 60-90s pop to country music and more. Each volunteer presenter brings his or her own musical genre to the station and selects their own music.
I am the community news broadcaster (haha never on my bucket list when I retired but I love it).
We're at www.radioodstock.org.uk where you can also see the schedule of shows.
Take a look at the Facebook page too, Radio Odstock - which I manage - where we have showcards for each show with a live link to the website.

My local BBC radio station most of the day, a good mix of easy listening music and the spoken word; except weekends when their programmes are not to my taste.

At the weekend I tend to listen to:
Sounds of the Sixties (Tony Blackburn) on Alexa
Boom radio
Scala radio - better than Classic FM in my opinion.

I listen to my local Radio Station, Magic, but most of all the Jazz Radio Channel, or Cozy coffee corner ,Cozy cabin ambiance, Cozy reading nook on You tube. Very relaxing, good for when Im reading. In fact anything that does not include having to listen to the BBC.
