Probably too late to wish you well for your trip Gillie as it is today that you are off but just in case - have a great time and forget the weigh-ins!
Welcome AlisonMA - it's great to have new members joining in the battle of the bulge - Glass is an amazing support - her encouragement is endless, and we all support smile, cheer on grin or commiserate with each other sad depending upon what has happened on the scales!
Good luck everyone as we approach another week!

Alison forgot to say that we follow our own plan, you just choose whatever you feel comfortable with. Welcome to GN, dont know if I have already said that or not wink

AlisonMA Sun 29-Apr-12 11:38:13

Thanks Glass. I'm new to Gransnet so just feeling my way around.

glassortwo Sat 28-Apr-12 22:35:06

alison welcome, of course you can join us. sunshine
I put a new thread up every Monday and as everyone gets weighed at different points we all report in as and when. If we have a loss or a gain just report on the thread, you dont need to post your weight, unless you want too.
The thread is for everyone to use if they need any support, or to post a recipe you have tried and enjoyed or any tips that have helped you. Or if you just want to have a moan or want to shout from the rooftops.

gillie have a fantastic holiday and dont even think about your weight, plenty time when you get back.

I forgot to post on Thursday, too much going on but I stayed the same.

AlisonMA Sat 28-Apr-12 17:51:52

Thanks Gillie have a good time wherever you are going. Don't be a martyr, save dieting for when you are at home.

GillieB Sat 28-Apr-12 16:32:43

Alison - I am sure you can. There will be a new thread on Monday, so log in then.

I am just reporting in before I go away tomorrow. I weighed myself this morning and am now 200 gr less than I was on Tuesday - a bit disgruntled about it to be honest. Ah well, see you all when I return (probably many pounds heavier, I am afraid!).

AlisonMA Fri 27-Apr-12 15:43:02

May I join in?

glassortwo Thu 26-Apr-12 08:46:52

jeni its great for batch freezing, last night there was only me and DD the men are away this week, so only used half and this morning I have frozen the rest, it sliced well to be wrapped.

...still got to buy some scales!

jeni Thu 26-Apr-12 08:09:50

Try anything once!smile

glassortwo Thu 26-Apr-12 08:03:04

jeni I have had a search about and you can use a bechamel (sp) sauce instead so eggs will be omitted. smile

Well it was delicious, well worth a try, and the sauce was so easy, just thrown together no messing about. smile

I'm allergic to egg yolks. Believe me , that's no yolk joke. I buy two chicks which are pasteurised egg whites.

I will be doing my monday weigh in on a wednesday for the time being because of allotment work.I forgot to report in last week but in the last 17 days have lost 2.8 lbs a total of 7.4 lbs since I started but it seems to be very slow going.
I've cut out bread and cheese and pastries entirely and cut down on the spuds and because I am borderline diabetic I don't have any sweets or pudding and use sweeteners in my tea so I thought I would have lost more.
Would love a cheese and onion sandwich or a cornish pastie but I will stick to my diet

glassortwo Wed 25-Apr-12 18:04:47

jeni eggs? Do you not eat eggs? But your have an omelette tonight, I am confused, its does not take much grin

jeni Wed 25-Apr-12 17:57:34

I am making this for the tea will let you all know what its like.

The Ultimate makeover Moussaka

2½ tbsp olive oil
1 onion , chopped
2 plump garlic cloves , finely chopped
2 large carrots (350g total weight), diced
450.0g 5% fat minced beef
100.0ml white wine
1 tsp ground cinnamon , plus extra
¼ tsp ground allspice
400.0g can plum tomatoes
2 tbsp tomato purée
1 heaped tbsp chopped oregano leaves
2 good handfuls chopped flat-leaf parsley , plus extra to garnish
3 aubergines (about 750g/1lb 10oz total weight), ends trimmed
1 tbsp lemon juice

Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large, wide sauté pan. Tip in the onion and garlic, then fry for 6-8 mins until turning golden. Add the carrots and fry for 2 mins more. Stir the meat into the pan, breaking it up as you stir. Cook and stir over a high heat until the meat is no longer pink. Pour in the wine and briefly cook until most of the liquid has evaporated. Stir in the cinnamon and allspice. Tip in the tomatoes, tomato purée and 1 tbsp water (mixed with any juices left in the can), then stir to break up the tomatoes. Season with some pepper, add all the oregano and half the parsley, cover, then simmer on a low heat for 50 mins, stirring occasionally. Season to taste. Mix in the remaining parsley. Can be done a day ahead and refrigerated overnight.
While the meat cooks (unless you are doing this a day ahead) prepare the aubergines. Heat oven to 200C/fan 180C/ gas 6. Brush a little of the remaining oil onto 2 large baking sheets. Mix the rest of the oil with the lemon juice. Slice the aubergines into 1cm thick lengthways slices, then lay them on the oiled baking sheets. Brush with the oil and lemon mix, then season with pepper. Bake for 20-25 mins until soft, then set aside. Lower oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4.
Spread 2 big spoonfuls of the meat mixture on the bottom of an ovenproof dish (about 28 x 20 x 6cm deep). Lay the aubergine slices on top, slightly overlapping. Spoon the rest of the meat mixture on top. Beat the eggs in a bowl. Slacken the cornflour with a little of the yogurt, stir in the rest of the yogurt, then mix this into the eggs with half the cheese. Season with pepper. Pour and spread this over the meat to cover it. Sprinkle with the rest of the cheese, a little cinnamon and a grating of pepper. Bake for 50 mins-1 hr until bubbling and golden.
Leave moussaka to settle for 8-10 mins, then scatter over some chopped parsley and cut into squares. Serve with a salad of tomato, red onion and rocket.

MAKING IT HEALTHIER A serving of classic moussaka contains 820 kcals, 58g fat (24g of which is sat fat) and 1.06g salt. My version contains 325 kcals, 15g fat (5g sat fat) and 0.65g salt.
PER SERVING
2 eggs
1 tbsp cornflour
300.0g 2% Greek yogurt
50.0g Parmesan , grated

Am stuck, have got to do something to shake something off!I have lost nothing this week.

glassortwo Wed 25-Apr-12 14:42:11

GrannyK sorry that your so down at the moment, but at least these antibiotics will sort it out finally. I had something similar a couple of Christmas ago when they thought I had swine flu and my face erupted, looked like I had been in a car crash. I felt sure it would leave scars but within a few days of the antibiotic it started to heal. Some kind person must have caught me on screen on Christmas Morning when the GC were opening their presents and I was quite shocked to see how bad it was... so dont worry it will vanish. flowers

Get yourself put right then tackle your weight, so we can get you down to what you want for the wedding. flowers

GrannyK Wed 25-Apr-12 14:23:19

Really very depressed. Have been to Doctor and am the HUGEST antibiotic tablets I have ever seen in my life to get rid of something that appears to resemble bubonic plague on my face. Connected with the flu I had in February apparently. On top of that I have put on another 1lb which brings me to the most I have weighed all year and back to several pounds above my target weight. How can it have just piled on again after being so far below when I was ill? ( I do know the answer - it's the whole famine/ feast mechanism, but it is still depressing when it happens ) Dress for wedding still hanging out to encourage me but frankly in this weather when I can't get out and do my usual gardening exercise, it's just making me more miserable . Sorry - usually more upbeat about it all . bad day today sad
