Never mind, glassortwo,

Lost 6lb on my very low calorie diet this week. I'm following the guidelines from the Newcastle Uni diabetes study. I'm hoping to stick it out for the next six weeks so that my diagnosis of pre-diabetes is overturned. So far it's been quite easy, but I don't expect to maintain huge weight losses every week. If I lose 2/3 lbs a week I shall be very happy.

ginny Mon 10-Feb-14 08:29:03

Wow! grannyactivist that is good.

I lost just a 1lb this week but at least it is the right direction.

Since last June I have lost I st. 10 lbs. A few blips where I have gone up but slowly and surely it is coming off. I am now finding clothes in my wardrobe that fit after sitting in there looking forlorn.

Good Luck everyone.

Marelli Mon 10-Feb-14 15:16:59

I stayed the same sad.

Tegan Mon 10-Feb-14 15:55:43

I daren't look sad. Although I'm eating really healthily I'm still doing a lot of house sorting and not getting much in the way of exercise. Hope to get back to the gym next week when the house is nearer to being tidy [although have just spotted a strange brown patch on the kitchen ceiling that I've never noticed before. May be a remnant of the leak I had ages ago, but I'm sure I would have noticed it before]. Got a wedding to go to in June and have bought a couple of dresses to wear that are a bit on the tight side, so need to do something soon. The 5:2 diet has fallen by the wayside as well...

rockgran Mon 10-Feb-14 16:05:13

No change but at least no gain. smile

Galen Mon 10-Feb-14 16:06:16

I'm trying to screw my courage to the sticking place and sneak up on my scales while they're sleeping!

Soutra Mon 10-Feb-14 19:51:19

No change here alas sad which is slightly disappointing as I have drunk no wine all week and only a couple of whiskies (the match) and a sherry at the weekend. However, my eating hasn't actually changed for the better so not altogether surprising. Decided to have a go at a Jane Fonda fitness DVD (for crumblies - "Prime Time Fit and Strong") and realised that I am as creaky and stiff as a rusty gate. Things I could easily have attempted just a few years ago are way beyond me, Still, will persevere. Hard to do the deep breathing with dragon's breath Grace's nose just inches away from my face "What are you doing, down there Mum?" and not helped by the fact that in the absence of hand weights, I used 2 tins of chopped tomatoes which look just like her ladyship's "Butcher's " dog food - so she was even more excited.
Try again tomorrow - and I am only doing the easy version - mostly sitting or holding on to the back of a chair blush

Nothing off this week, though the scales did flicker back and forth several times before settling on the same reading as last week.

I blame the weather. Not been able to get out and do much walking or trampolining.

GrannyK Tue 11-Feb-14 09:31:18

Possible breakthrough moment . I have bought the latest Paul McKenna book/ CD /DVD after reading the Gransnet webchat . I have been very conscientious about listening/ watching it for the last 5 days and whilst I have only lost half a pound , I have not had any of the "late-night-raid-the-fridge" sessions, or even felt like having one. That is definite progress !

whenim64 Tue 11-Feb-14 09:34:32

Me too, GrannyK my eating habits are becoming more controlled and when I'm shopping and checking the cupboard for what I want to eat, I get an automatic thought about who's ruling me - the food or myself. Very good for relaxation too, that CD.

Galen Tue 11-Feb-14 09:57:28

Same again. I blame GNHQ for not sending me the recipe book of diets that I won grin
Actually I had a salty meal last night so I suspect some fluid retention today.

Tegan Tue 11-Feb-14 10:35:31

Hit the ice cream last night. Haven't done that for ages [at least it's all gone now]. Sick of the weather and not being able to get out for walks. Need to check out that cd I think. Mind you, I don't think anything would have stopped me eating last night; I just wanted to make myself miserable for some reason confused.

Galen Tue 11-Feb-14 11:58:47

My book has just arrived!
No excuses now!sad

Soutra Tue 11-Feb-14 12:04:34

Just adding that maybe the Jane Fonda exercise DVD has done some good as my hip and lower back gave me no trouble when walking Grace yesterday evening OR in the night when I usually wake up several times on account of the pain confused It is very gentle and aims at improving flexibility- not "gping for the burn" like in the 80s !

Aka Tue 11-Feb-14 14:26:21

Tegan 'at least it's all gone now' grin

Tegan Tue 11-Feb-14 16:07:16

...yes, but I can see where it's gone to...shock

GrannyK Tue 11-Feb-14 17:41:00

Tegan- get the book and read the section on sabotaging yourself. It is spot on !

glassortwo Tue 11-Feb-14 22:34:33

Thanks besotted I even managed to stay the same wink along with marelli rock aka and soutrawe are all in the maintain club this week smile
Well done grannya thats a fantastic loss for your 1st week.
ginny every 1lb is worth it and look at the 1st 10lbs you have already managed to lose, well done.
tegan June NO PROBLEM you can do that easy!!!
galen how about taking another tack, leave the scales for a while, get your tape measure our take measurements, start your healthy eating and in a few weeks if you have been good you will be amazed at the inches you have lost...go on give it a go.
grannyK 1/2lb is not to be sniffed at , if you lost that every week for a year you would be almost 2stone lighter.
soutra did you see the tips I had put on last weeks thread for you?

Right everyone, only gentle exercise if the last time you exercised was with Jane Fonda in 80's, and DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.
Be good smile OH AND LEAVE THE ICE CREAM AT TESCOS wink

Galen Tue 11-Feb-14 22:54:54

Ice cream? Me?
[virtuous emoticon]

Only in summer (what's that?)
Then home made!

rioja Mon 17-Feb-14 09:17:37

I too have lost over a stone since beginning of Jan 2014, sticking to my own calorie counting - what has helped me is an app I downloaded MyNetDiary which allows you to keep a food diary also list weigh loss any exercise ext. I am over 60, & if I can use it anyone could, I think you can, download a free version I paid for better version £ 2-£3 : it does calculate for you how long it will take you to loose your weight ect, I find it helpful (I also use M&S Fuller longer meals during the week normally under 400calls and tasty & adding a sweet potatoes if I fancy)- this is for my evening meal. Good luck all
