I have just joined slimming world. I have stayed for the meetings because I thought there would be lots of support and ideas for meals. My meeting seems to involve going round the room asking everybody how much they lost and how they did it. Am I expecting too much or is this the norm?

Oh dear, doesn't sound very inspiring does it? I'd have thought there would be ideas too...... perhaps next time?

seasider I attend SW and have tried a few groups, some are like you describe, but the one I attend now is great for support and sharing ideas, we all have a good laugh together.
Try again next week it may just have been an off night, sometimes if there are a lot of new starters the normal flow of the meeting does tend to be disrupted ...but if you feel the group is lacking try another, like everything there are good and bad.
Good luck smile

Thanks Glass . To be honest I have always resisted joining a group as I am not keen on the happy clappy group scenario if you see what I mean. I need not have worried as it was quite subdued. I had the biggest weight loss( first week so more to lose!) and was quite disappointed not to be slimmer of the week!grin

DIL just told me you cannot be slimmer of the week on your first week so maybe next time!

I have been going to SW for several years now on and off - I get fed up with the meetings but have made friends with some of the ladies and we keep in touch. Overall I lost 5 stone and have kept of 4 of those. After an operation this winter where I wasn't allowed to walk for a month and then had to rehab and some self indulgence it must be said I put on a stone. I am working on this now using the SW principles (if not 100%) and lost of activity. I believe the SW 'way' which is essentially healthy eating to be sound but depending on the Group Leader the meetings are variable - I have used to on line site a great deal and this tells you all you need to know really.

I have attended SW for several years now and since retirement have always stayed to the meetings. Some groups are of course better than others. The consultant does normally ask each person how they did and they all get a clap ( there can be a lot of clapping at times!) but there should also be an opportunity to swap ideas and recipes and a good old natter. Stick with it , it does work and having tried several slimming clubs the plan with SW can be easy to follow and does have results. Let us know how you get on.

Thanks Chloe never joined a slimming club before but losing four pounds has spurred me on. I am working on changing family meals to adapt to the SW way and so far so good. Thanks for the cake which is one thing I do miss!

seasider I was worried about the happy clappy before I started but our group mix that with lots of tips and support. Well done losing 4lb great smile
Thats what is good about SW it is essentially healthy eating and nothing you cant eat and if you follow the plan you will lose.

My family all eat SW meals and they dont even realise grin

Thanks Glass we all need to lose a bit so they are happy to follow the rules but to be honest the food has been very tasty. As you say I think it is just common sense.
