I did read somewhere that many dept stores did, in fact, use slimming mirrors.

My sister swears that ALL of my 3 long mirrors make her look slimmer. I am now totally paranoid that I look fatter in real life. As one of them is over 100 years old, I think she is fibbing.

Nelliemoser, that mirror in BHS wasn't badly made, it was brilliant. I bet their sales go shooting up when people try on clothes and think that they look tall and thin. BHS should ensure that all their shops have them - M&S wouldn't know what had hit them!

I think maybe a sleepmask would be better.

Although I suppose you could always claim you were 'sleeptweezing'.

Feel a bit guilty about my post. He is a lovely man and deserves better, does need tweaking a bit though.

It was a few years ago now. I ditched the coat, stopped wearing my glasses all the time (out of sheer laziness, because I couldn't be bothered to find their case in my bag), started layering my hair (it's too thick and curly) and now straighten the top half and use anti-frizz serums, and buy fitted coats with a waist. Also try to smile more - I looked so grumpy!

In one office I had to visit occasionally the mirror really did widen your image and the two women who worked there all the time were stick-thin, but I never got the opportunity to tell them they had a weird mirror - just in case it was me and not the mirror.

Flower I tidy my DH up regularly with my eyebrow tweezers as I can't bear whispy bits. (have I got the right bear/bare)? He's a bit of a baby though and says it hurts.

The BHS I went into the other day had a mirror that made me look tall and thin It was either badly made or designed to flatter.

When I walk from the lounge to the kitchen I look at the floor so that I cannot see myself in the mirror.

I was once going up the escalator in M&S and caught sight in the mirror of a portly frumpish middle-aged lady with frizzy hair. To my horror she got off at the same time as I did.

Straight to the hairdressers, to the charity shop with the coat and out with the hair straighteners after that!

I have a strangely distorting mirror on the landing between my bedroom door and the bathroom. I have to move quickly past it or I might see something utterly monstrous.

I was horrified by what I saw in the mirror when trying on clothes in M&S, all bum and tum!

So horrified in fact that I had to have a mocha coffee and a danish pastry to calm myself down.

Agree about eyesight Pittcity. My DH has not a wrinkle when I don't wear my glasses (reading glasses). BUT when I lie next to him in bed reading and turn to kiss him good night I notice (much to his horror) the odd hair poking from his left ear (I suppose he has a matching on the right) he has a beard which I love but on his cheek his had two hairs that have strayed from the pelaton. I sometimes try to tweak the offending (to me) hair out but desist when he shrieks. Then there is (not often) the stray bogey hiding, out of view to me except when I have my specs on and inspecting him, accompanied by a singular hair escaping from his left nostril. He is very good at grooming these bits and pieces but as his beard grows (he trims it about once every 7 or so days) so the others gather to take my attention away from my most recent book. Sorry to have strayed away from tummies.

I think that is why our eyesight gets worse as we get older!

M&S fitting rooms should have a warning at the entrance. The mirrors are far too efficient and well placed. As I bend to try on trousers, I get a perfect view of my big behind.
