I usually water down drinks to save on calories. Appletize and water is my usual tipple. However I fancy a change.

What are your low cal drinks favourites?

yogagran it may be a coincidence but I do find that if I drink a small wineglassful of tonic water before bed I do not get cramp. Surely it can't be psychological as I am asleep!

Don't go riding your mobility scooter Alex after one of your muffle muffle sessions. hmm

alex57currie Tue 04-Nov-14 18:18:07

I certainly can NanKate- muffle muffle, the recommended allowance for woman, muffle muffle.

Alex can you be more specific when you say 'a few glasses of wine' ?
grin

I am sitting here at 17.42 with a very nice chilled Amontillado Sherry - very old ladyish.

I've been drinking lc tonic water every evening for a few months as I understood that it helped with cramp. I must say that it does seem to work (in spite of my doctor brother saying it's a load of rubbish!) but after reading some of these posts and links here I think I'll go back to wine or sparkling water wine

I enjoy carbonated water in a tall glass with a fresh slice of lemon daily. Then after 9' ish at night a couple of times a week, a few glasses of wine. I've joined the UK campsite page. There's a bloke who posts on the forum who has a brilliant signature- "a meal withput wine, that would be breakfast!"

This is a bit more sensible

Quote: "It's a myth that Tonic Water itself was intended as a cure for malaria, or even as preventive medicine.

At 27 mg quinine per 8 oz (240 ml), the amount of quinine in Tonic Water is reputedly too small to act as a drug, or even to interact with other drugs.

Quinine is used in malaria treatment. Quinine tablets contain anywhere from 200 to 350 mg of quinine. A sample treatment is 2 x 300 mg quinine tablets every 8 hours for 7 days. To equal that treatment level by drinking Tonic Water, you'd have to drink an awful lot of it -- every 8 hours, you'd have to drink about 22 8 oz cups of it to replace the 2 x 300 mg tablets. If you drank all that mixed with gin, after the hospital had treated your malaria they might check you into the Betty Ford.

Quinine is also used to prevent night-time leg cramp in bed."

Any tonic drinkers who really want to scare themselves
should take a look at this
Don't think I'll be giving up my G & T any time soon grin

Not to put a dampener on things but tonic water is not good for those like me who have tinnitus. I was told to avoid it.

rosequartz Mon 03-Nov-14 14:57:48

Jings I had lemon, lime and angosturas bitters in Australia, made with fresh local lime juice. Delicious!

DD1 would be cross if I said I drank anything low calorie with that aspartame stuff in it.
I do drink lc (shh) tonic water sometimes, it's supposed to help stop cramp.

MiniMouse Mon 03-Nov-14 14:54:37

Slimline I think Jings

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 03-Nov-14 14:01:03

SL?

merlotgran Mon 03-Nov-14 13:57:59

Freshly squeezed lime juice with SL tonic and ice. Very refreshing on a hot day.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 03-Nov-14 13:49:31

I drink more if the water is flavoured, and I know I don't drink enough.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 03-Nov-14 13:48:32

Has anyone asked for a soda and lime in a pub and actually got one with real lime juice, instead of the horrible cordial? I haven't. hmm Shame really.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 03-Nov-14 13:46:55

I won a bottle of Robinsons No Added Sugar shock wink orange drink on a bottle tombola (wasn't I lucky? grin) I haven't bought it in years. I'd forgotten how good it tastes! I'm going to buy some more.

J52 Mon 03-Nov-14 13:45:32

Low calorie soda and lime. Very refreshing.x

Granny23 Mon 03-Nov-14 13:40:40

Bags I'll bet your tapwater tastes lovely smile. Our own was so good (same source as Highland Spring in the Ochils) that we drank gallons of it and I used to fill bottles to take to work, but since our 'village' doubled in size we have bog standard mains water, piped from miles away, which always tastes of chlorine. sad

Teetime Mon 03-Nov-14 09:04:45

Yes Diet Coke for me but I try not to have more than a couple a week - very bad for arthritis apparently. I quite like Sainsbury sugar free cloudy lemonade. We have lime and soda after golf very popular and refreshing drink as long as their is not too much lime cordial. DH likes an elderflower spritzer.

shysal Mon 03-Nov-14 07:48:30

Mostly water, but sometimes sugar-free Vimto squash diluted with Asda diet lemonade.

NanKate Mon 03-Nov-14 06:49:06

I do drink plenty of tap water and tea but I was just wondering if there were any new/different drinks out there that I hadn't tried. I fancy the low cal ginger ale that Granny23 suggested. Thanks all.

thatbags Mon 03-Nov-14 06:44:44

You could 'save on' calories even more if you just drank tap water or black tea/coffee wink

Coolgran65 Mon 03-Nov-14 01:00:06

Mostly tap water. Sometimes soda water and lime, if out.

Granny23 Sun 02-Nov-14 23:11:59

Low Cal Ginger Ale. I also like Lemon& Lime flavoured water. One DD practically lives on diet Irn Bru. As a vegetarian she says it is for the iron content. grin
