I'm looking for low impact excersises for the health probs I have, I have tried chair excersises but I was given the wrong venue it was up and down on lifts long walks to and from car park, and reception area. So now I'm looking to a home programme maybe you tube , Which deals with not just arthrities but water retention and lymphadema and heart pump that is slightly impaired. Or am I only fit for the the old work horse retirement home....And I'm only Just 67 yrs young Can anyone help ...Thank you.

NotTooOld I have been wondering for some time whether to get a Wi Fit and it seems you get a good deal of use from yours. I shall give it some more serious thought now that I have read your post It seems more fun than the exercises I do at the moment,

Yes. We know. And we still don't need a criminal defence lawyer in Palm Springs. hmm

Chair exercises are suitable for older adults due to the solid base of support preventing falls, and less strain on the joints.

They are also suitable for beginning exercisers who need to start with easier exercises to gain functional strength for the tasks of daily living.

We have had a new tea morning set up in Aylestone Leics and the chair exercises look to be an entertaining way of spending fifteen minutes of the morning..Thanks for all the suggestions.

I won the Move it or Lose It chair exercises video in a Gransnet competition and I do use it now and again - I try and either go for a walk/limp or use the video of the weather is bad.

It might be worth looking on the Age UK site, they have a programme called Generation Games which covers all sorts of exercise including seated for the over 50s. You can search for classes in your area, they are usually subsidised and popular.

Rather than do your exercises from home, why not have some fun with other people and visit a Move It Or Lose It chair-based exercise class. I've been going to a weekly class and with the guidance of their trained instructor I found the latex bands really good for muscle strength. Search for your nearest class on their website www.moveitorloseit.co.uk

One tiny word of warning when watching exercises in the internet....if they suggest the use of those physio bands (sort of elastic strips) then d so with caution. I once went to a exercise class where they were in use and I felt my disc slip as I did what we were bid! Ouch!

Thank you ladies ...I would never have thought to look at You Tube but there are loads of Chair Exercises on there look to be from a few minutes to half an hour and a variety of ideas for doing them.

Thank you

I'm not fit at all. It's at the limit of my ability but I'm getting better at it.

NotTooOld Sun 18-Jan-15 16:15:46

Thank you for your encouragement, Mishap. I feel better now. :-)

Definitely! You are doing brilliantly. I am deeply envious.

I've been wondering about this recent edict that we should walk 20 minutes every day in order to live longer. I can't do that since my hip became arthritic and insead I've been doing 25 minutes a day on my Wi Fit. I do 10 minutes jogging, 10 minutes 'step' exercises and 5 minutes hulu hoop. I also play badminton twice a week where I tend to hobble around the court but I do keep moving. I'm 71. Do you think this counts as 20 minutes walking a day?

Just looked up your profile - you are a bit younger than me! And presumably free of breakages etc.

Mishap Sat 17-Jan-15 23:17:54

Lord above vampire! - I have just looked at that walking video and I could no more do that than fly! - you must be so fit! I can manage the chair exercises though.

I've done chair exercises from youtube. Now I do Leslie Sansome walking videos five times a week. It takes half an hour and you've walked 2 miles without ever leaving the living room Well worth a try if you're often stuck in like me.

I Googled this last year and quite a few different sites came up. I keep on my favourites a you tube one called 'Stronger Seniors Aerobics' which are seated.

Some few years ago I attended a class of ladies taking part in Chair exercises and wondered whether anyone else has done them, there is no getting up and running around you sit on your chair and twiddle fingers and revolve feet and wiggle toes working from your head to toes...Would anyone have a note of the full exercises? You start off with five of things until you can do 10 of each, my notes on the exercises isn't complete and I want to pass the instructions onto a Tea morning...Thanks folks
