Hi all, I have a wedding and a holiday in September and I would really like to get in better shape - I was wondering if anyone has somehow managed to give up refined sugar and if so what were the effects?! Thank you grin

Download the Myfitnesspal app. It lets you log all your food and exercise, so you can have whatever you want, as long as you stay within your limit.

HAHA. A bit drastic, Jinglebellfrocks. Hope you're better now.

Seriously though, I agree that it's a matter of taking in less calories than you burn. It's definitely not easy. Pennygran, if you can get down to the gym for a few days' a week, and do a real workout, you'll go a long way to moving those excess pounds. Even WW and Slimming World say you can have the odd piece of chock or low-cal biscuit as long as you keep to the minimum. Good luck on the weight loss. You can do it!

Beattie just count calories. If you eat something with 550 cals in it, put that in the total for the day. #lettucefordin

Isn't there a saying that goes something like 'you can't have your cake and.......'?

Anya Tue 14-Jul-15 12:43:38

In other words you eat cake?

thatbags Tue 14-Jul-15 12:43:07

You don't have to give up any kind of food; just have smaller helpings of everything.

Beattie Tue 14-Jul-15 12:38:16

Oh dear, so much denial! I have given up so much over the years, cigarettes, booze, sex and now sugar!! I have such a sweet tooth and just love the odd cheesecake slice/chocolate cake but need to lose about 10 lbs in weight - help!

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 13-Jul-15 22:29:06

shock

Apologies to peonygran!

Ana Mon 13-Jul-15 22:22:19

Or indeed sugar...

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 13-Jul-15 22:17:27

We have also discussed my medical details Cari. Well, at least Ana and I have. It is not all about cake.

grin

merlotgran Mon 13-Jul-15 22:15:35

Sorry. I must have missed that bit about the eggs.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 13-Jul-15 22:15:14

gj grin

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 13-Jul-15 22:14:45

I am all for generic grins. We need more of them on GN.

granjura Mon 13-Jul-15 22:11:25

Nothing wrong with kids eating a reasonable amount of cake. Just because I have to watch my weight, carb and sugar intake, does not mean GC have to. They are on the go all the time, cycling, swimming, running around, playing cricket and rugby, and both very slim- GS i so tall and lanky but strong, aged 8.

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 13-Jul-15 22:09:59

Oops sorry yes - my grin was entirely generic and not at all specific

granjura Mon 13-Jul-15 22:09:27

Indeed, not my GS's fault either ;) he loves chooks too. But the tiniest amount of egg results in immediate anaphylactic shock, adrenalin, emergency hospitalisation and possible intubation. Not much fun, really ...

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 13-Jul-15 22:08:57

I'm smiling at the fact someone said they were pleased there had been less mentioning of cake and I have managed to (accidentally) hijack an entire thread which is now discussing nothing but cake <contrite face>

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 13-Jul-15 22:08:46

This thread seems completely normal to me. confused

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 13-Jul-15 22:07:56

There is no chocolate in that one. Might not be quite the same.

Ana Cari can laugh if she likes. She is the boss! shock She can do anything.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 13-Jul-15 22:04:34

Not the chooks' fault.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 13-Jul-15 22:04:07

gj's grandson is allergic to eggs merlot.

Ana Mon 13-Jul-15 21:57:24

Why is that funny, Cari? confused

This site is surreal tonight...

merlotgran Mon 13-Jul-15 21:57:09

Why an egg free cake? hmm
