I went to my first session today and it was wonderful. the music is great (lots of Santana, salsa and tango)and the moves are easy to learn with plenty of breaks for a drink. I was told this kind of Zumba is aimed at people of a certain age with the objectives of maintaining flexibility and balance at the same time as burning a few calories. there is also a chair based Zumba for those who cannot stand or are recovering from surgery for example. The other participants were all my age dressed in a variety of casual clothes not specific workout gear and there was much laughter and fun. Give it a go! smile

Glad you enjoyed it. I go to a Zumba/ Caribbean carnival dance class. It's great and it does seem to energise!

Glad you enjoyed it teetime. I love it and really miss it when I'm away.

I'm another one who thoroughly enjoys Zumba Gold. I've been going now for almost 3 years. Great fun whilst keeping fit, and certainly energizing.

Saw a class advertised at local community centre and wondered about it. How energetic do you have to be? I'm flexible with no arthritis or any other painful conditions ( apart from cross stitch shoulder when I wont put it down!) but asthma causes me a fairly significant problem.

The rule of thumb is only to be as energetic as you feel able to be Katek.
There's a 75yr old in my class. She does not prance about with abandon, but moves modestly and gently; her timing is excellent.

Just go and give it try. smile

Katek, I was wondering if I could take part without collapsing or making a fool of myself. If you go on YouTube and search for Zumba Gold, you will find a number of workouts that you could try out in the privacy of your own home. I'm getting tired thinking about it. grin

My two friends and I recently took up Zumba Gold (we are 73, 66 and 64) and we love it. The routines are not too energetic and you can put a lot of effort into them or a little, and there are frequent drink breaks. So give it a try. The other fun activity the three of us have enjoyed for many years is line dancing - again not very energetic but great fun with dances done to all the latest pop music as well as traditional country tracks. All you need is some sensible footwear - no cowboy hat required !

I have been going to Zumba Gold classes for at least 4 years now. It is great for slightly less energetic ladies (and men) and in our class there are a few younger women as well. It is mainly a group for U3A members but was opened up to the public when numbers were down.

Our teacher is from Mexico and encourages us to sing along to the music which is invariably lively and often in Spanish! We gave a demonstration to our U3A group and they were very impressed!
