I do think a small drop of cider vinegar in a glass of water helps if you are feeling sick, just sipped occasionally, used to work for me when I had regular migraines, certainly took the horrible sick feeling away.

I lost weight from November and dropped a dress size by
halving the amount on my plate.
sometimes only having one hot meal at lunch.
eating muesli twice a day. (I'm taking med which make me nauseous).

When we go out to eat Asian food I half what I have on my plate and ask for doggy bags before we leave. Why hot? We've paid for our food. Once I was asked by an incredulous waiter "all of it?" I answered firmly, "Yes all of it. It will all be paid for- thank you."

When I was able to walk we used to drive to the NT properties and walk through lovely countryside, pop in to their cafes for a cooling drink and snack, then drive home. We felt so much better than slogging our way on pavements, breathing in petrol and diesel fumes.

This whole 'cleansing' or 'detoxing' stuff is a load of tosh anyway.

I saw an article recently about how a group of people were told that if you had a certain dietary problem you could tell because you would develop certain symptoms. After a few simple tests half the group were told they might have a problem, whereupon over half the group who were told they might have the problem claimed that they were experiencing the symptoms described to them. Nobody in the group told there was no problem experienced the symptoms.

In fact the problem was non-existant and the tests a sham. Just telling some people that there was a link between a problem and simple symptoms and then suggesting they might have or develop the problem was suficient to trigger the symptoms.

Years ago my yoga teacher recommended cider vinegar for cleansing the system, not necessarily weight loss.

I've tried it on and off and found it appears to make no real difference.

It's very good for chickens grin

Perhaps it was the cider vinegar that did for his fingers and toes! Avoid it at all costs!!

Greyduster Thu 29-Oct-15 20:09:25

I suspect not. Given all the fingers and toes he has lost to frost bite, his gnashers must be the only thing he has left to haul himself up, across and through all his various challenges!

But have Feinnes teeth dissolved? Do tell?

My OH tried it once for arthritis but hated it, so I used the rest to scrub an old wooden floor and lost a few ounces. grin

The Universal Nostrum, operas have been written about it! I believe the poet, Lord Byron, drank vinegar to aid weight loss. There is no evidence it worked for him either.

Greyduster Thu 29-Oct-15 08:10:56

I've never heard of using it to lose weight but it seems to be recommended as a remedy for just about everything from arthritis to fungal nail infection! I read a book by the explorer Ranulph Feinnes who apparently has taken it every day for years and swears he wouldn't still be standing without it.

As a product it has been heavily marketed as a solution to a wide variety of ills, on the basis of zero evidence.
Too much of anything is probably bad for you. In this case terrible for your teeth.

NanKate I occasionally take cider vinegar for a flair up of arthritis (working on the premise if it doesn't do any good at least it does no harm!)

However I feel it's not what you add to your diet (meaning your day to day food) but what you remove from your diet that makes the difference to weight. Sorry!

A friend, who like me, is trying to lose some weight has started taking organic cider apple vinegar to aid the process. Has anyone here had success with this weight loss aid ?
