WW or Slimmers World?

I don't know if I am allowed to ask, but has anyone changed from WW to Slimmers World? I'm so fed up ( no pun intended) with counting points, and now WW has changed to smart points I'm wondering if Slimmers World would be easier.

Oops! I've just scrolled back through the thread and see that I've already shared my opinion on this subject three months ago. In my defence, I see that I have been consistent in my advice! grin

Neither! wink

I'd suggest taking personal responsibility, saving fees and doing 5:2 instead. There are heaps of forums and chat groups online if you like the support of others.

I go to Slimming World. Have lost a stone...got to target 1 and now lowered it to target 2. I am really happy with the plan don't think it is as restrictive as WW. For someone earlier who commented that they found it boring I would disagree. Nothing is forbidden. Its not a diet its a complete change onto healthy eating and living x

I love Slimming World. I go every week to group got to target n been here 4.5 yrs. I help out every week at the sessions. It's an amazing plan and the results are outstanding. Hubby got his 2st award this week. I've list 2.5 st. You can eat so much yet still lose weight n no calorie counting.

My friends SIL lost 10st ( yes 10! ) on SW, his wife 8st!!

I had 6 weeks of a choice of WW, SW or RC free on a local scheme suggested by GP. I chose SW, lost 2 stone and have kept it off for 2 years. Since then I''ve not lost more but that's my fault for not being strict with myself, at least I haven't put the 2 stone back on so I don't begrudge the money.
As others have said a lot depends on the group leader. I've just changed groups to one that's easier to travel to and am hoping to convince myself I'm a new member and keep to the 'food optimising plan'. I've recently read that some local authorities provide 12 free weeks of SW, again via a GP or Health Centre.

If you happen to live in Essex, check this out. It is a free course either as a group or one to one. It does work, I have lost 18lbs in 10 weeks.
There may be similar schemes in other counties.

Just rejoined WW after a couple of years of doing nothing and putting on loads of weight.

I prefer the WW meetings, but with both it is largely down to the leader and how good they are.

I buy the SW magazine, but haven't joined - and do not want to. I find the magazine recipes good and reading it it is a good motivator, but my most successful weight loss plan was the 5;2. I lost the 2 stone I put on after the menopause two years ago and haven't gained any of the lossed weight since.

Unasmum We have fun at our group too. Lots of support and ideas exchanged. As maddy47 says there is some self congratulation, but why not ? It's good to be told you are doing well and especially by people who know and are having the same struggle with their weight. Also good , when you have a not so good week to know you are not the only one. I look forward to our meetings .

Hi Atqui,

Have you thought about 5:2? From what you say you aspire to and how you already eat, I wonder if it would be a whole heap easier - and more sustainable in the long term for you?

You probably know how it goes - 500 cals (eg one small meal) on two days a week, and normal eating the rest of the time. Straightforward, convenient and fee-free! There is a ton of free info and support online.

Good luck with whichever way you go about it. smile

I've lost 2 stone on SW, following the recipes and taking more exercise. But, you don't need to go to the boring weigh-ins and self-congratulatory meetings. Just pick up the recipes online and learn to love fry-light and cut all visible fat off meat.

Hi I think a lot depends on the leader and group members. I am on the SW regime, having tried WW and failed, and am doing really well. I echo an earlier comment when I say that the plan is really easy to follow and doesn't feel like a diet. The suspect that the meetings could be boring, just reading out gains and losses, but our group and leader are fun and we have a lot of laughs. Support is always available via a closed Facebook group.

Done both and SW is so much easier to incorporate into normal life.

There we are then rubylady . She must have portrait of herself up in her loft!

rubylady Wed 20-Jan-16 03:47:31

LullyDully I know you said about RC getting a new photo but she was on the box recently, in an episode of Pointless, and she still looks good. smile

ginny Tue 19-Jan-16 23:24:32

My SW leader is quiet a large chap although he was a lot bigger.
I have been thinking about this and in some ways, maybe it helps to know that he is still facing the same struggle as the rest of us . He is a very good leader , enthusiastic , motivational and well versed in SW ways of eating.

LullyDully Tue 19-Jan-16 22:05:41

My point about Rosemary was that perhaps her photo needs updating!!!!!!

SW leaders don't have to stay slim. Mine put me right off as she was bigger than me!!!!!!!

Willow500 Tue 19-Jan-16 13:58:35

My DIL is with SW and doing very well. My husband and I both did the Boots online diet a few years ago - he lost 4 stones and I lost 3.5. Unfortunately he's put his back on again and I've put about a stone on - we need to start again so might give SW a go as counting calories is such a chore. Neither of us would go to a class so it will have to be an online one. I did do SW many years ago and still have a book where half is red and the other half is green - I don't know if it's still the same system. When we've finished all the Christmas goodies I'll get us motivated smile

rubylady Tue 19-Jan-16 02:08:04

LullyDully Yes, I was thinking that myself at class. Our leader is overweight, is this right when she is advocating a reducing diet? She doesn't say anything about her story, how much she has lost or got to lose. I do think if they are supposed to be on the same page as the members, then it is only fair to know what weight loss they are doing, yes?

Rosemary does still look good though. smile

LullyDully Mon 18-Jan-16 12:54:41

I have done both and lost on both. It all depends on your motivation and how good the leader is. Some are inspiring and some are dire in either class.

Only thing with SW is that the leader does not have to stay slim like they do at WW so they can be larger than you!!

P.S. didn't want to be personal to Rosemary Connelly last week but isn't that photo the same one she has had for about 20 years?

Atqui Mon 18-Jan-16 10:43:07

I think I need to get hold of SW programme .It may be like the WW No Count ( what was filling and healthy) As Imsaid, Imreally like my WW group but CBA to count every morsel. I think not counting and weighing leads to a more normal way of eating which is what I aspire to. Having said that almost all our meals are very healthy ....its just those in between things and going out for lunch!!

Just to through another suggestion in, have you thought about the Cambridge Diet? I have been on this since September and so far lost 23 lbs.

In the past I have done by WW and SW and found both to be rather tedious, losing weight at first seemed easy but I got 'fed up' with counting points/weighing food etc.

Then I discovered the Cambridge diet. A colleague lost 4 stone on it and looks amazing. She explained how it worked and I started it too. I thought it seemed a little expensive at first but then quickly realised that because you strictly control what you are eating by the Cambridge products you buy you don't really need to shop, unless of course you have to shop and cook for others, which I'm lucky enough not to have to do. MY DH shops and cooks for himself most of the time (even before the diet) as he works shifts that are very different to my work pattern and so we eat at different times mostly. I can honestly say that I haven't felt hungry once and love being told how well I look!
