I doubt anyone would lose weight on that military diet, unless they are already eating way too much. I can only lose weight if I go below that, and even then it's slow.
I think the "recommended" 2000 calories a day is too much for most people, especially if they are sedentary.
Everyone is different. I try to stick to 1200 cals a day. I'm not that overweight; however I still need to lose a stone or so, which seems to be the hardest to shift.
