Seeing doctor about my binge eating

Today I have finally admitted to myself that I have a problem with binge eating. I spoke to DH and DD about it and have made an appointment with my doctor. I have been going to Slimming World for about 2 yeras now and have lost a stone and a half. I am not overly big( size 12-14) but I'm worried things will get out of hand. I have not lost any weight for the last year and feel I'm just wasting my money. Other people can eat in a normal way, surely I can too?!

Have you ever tried just not having this junk food in the house, Antjexix? I'm not being ratty here, btw, just trying to help. If it wasn't there, you couldn't binge on it, could you? I must admit I have my moments, usually when I'm alone in the house, when I can eat for England, and then feel guilty. But at least it's healthy ish stuff that I'm hoovering up, like toast, cheese, yoghurt, nuts, fruit. Apart from the secret stash of Buttons and Freddos that I buy in for the grandchildren, allegedly.....I have been known to get the DH to hide that, if he's going out, to save me from myself. Might it not be a good idea to go cold turkey, as Jalima says, before going to the doctor? Just see how that pans out?

Grumpy is the same in English and Welsh grin (I think)

as in Grumpy Bampy

I think it's Ratty Thursday - a couple of threads have been affected by it! grin

Don't buy or make cake
Don't buy or make biscuits
Don't buy chocolate, crisps, those horrible pink wafers
Don't buy icecream

Then you can't be tempted
If the rest of the family moan, tell them these things aren't good for them anyway.

It's a bit like giving up smoking - it can be done and cold turkey is better than anything else.

Says she smugly, who is thinking about chocolate as she types .....

Wow!
Mind you I worked with someone whose DGC were the same age as my DC

Lazigirl Thu 28-Apr-16 20:03:59

Hang on jings Antjexix's profile says she has 2 grandchildren. Isn't this "Gransnet"? There isn't an age limit is there?

Jalima Thu 28-Apr-16 19:59:16

Jings you can have some too, if you like cupcake grin

ps Antjexix perhaps your goal weight is too low at SW and your expectations of yourself are too high?
If you reach your goal you don't have to pay (so I am told at WW, never achieved that myself).

Tout la meme chose grin

Jalima Thu 28-Apr-16 19:55:04

Not if I can help it. Usually wait till I'm on my knees.

Antjexix Is your profile correct? confused Says you are 45. That's younger than my daughter! Perhaps we are on different wavelengths due to age difference.

I kept telling myself that the GP is too busy , but I nearly left it too late last year , see the GP and have a good chat , book two slots and get to the bottom of the problem

Antjexix Thu 28-Apr-16 19:15:26

Oh dear. You never see a doctor then I take it??

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 28-Apr-16 19:11:17

I hope your medical condition is soon healed. grin

But please remember the NHS is already overstretched.

Antjexix Thu 28-Apr-16 18:49:56

Binge eating disorder is actually a medical condition. You could read up on it on the NHS website?! jinglbellsfrocks

obieone Thu 28-Apr-16 18:39:38

Not really, no. I dont think my weight has changed within half a stone in at least 10 years.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 28-Apr-16 18:28:36

Haven't we all? (got flexible weights) grin hmm

Shall we stop being daft now?

obieone Thu 28-Apr-16 18:23:17

The weight can be a red herring. A person with an eating disorder will have flexible weight.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 28-Apr-16 18:22:53

angry

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 28-Apr-16 18:22:33

Oh FFS! That is bloody ridiculous!

obieone Thu 28-Apr-16 18:21:45

Glad you are going to see the GP Antjexix.
It is very uncomfortable reading to see any GN acting as doctor, when they have no training.

Antjexix Thu 28-Apr-16 17:56:21

Thank you

amandajane Thu 28-Apr-16 17:52:29

Binge eating is a recognised eating disorder. It's unlikely you need a dietician as the cause is most likely emotional. Cognitive behaviour therapy can be really helpful but you may well have to pay for it. Good luck.
