I usually start my day with a healthy breakfast natural fat free Greek yogurt and fresh fruit , but now I,m not sure what sort of yogurt I should be having regarding the sugar content , fat free , low fat , full fat . I,m getting realy confused ?
5:2 i started it on 7 june and ive alteady lost 18 lbs.Its the only diet thsts ever worked for me
I joined Slimming World online on 1 January this year for three months so no need to attend a class. You enter your weight weekly and there are loads of helpful tips and ideas to add variety to mealtimes and emails to encourage you There is so much nice food of which you can eat as much as you like. By 1 April I had lost 17 lbs which was my target. If you have a glass of wine you take 6 "syns" from your recommended allowance of a maximum of 15 so you don't have to cut it out completely. Same with chocolate and all the other things we all like! However, I injured my ankle badly seven weeks ago and as I am normally very active I find I have put on 5 lbs in that time, just eating what I like, so now am back on the Slimming World regime, most days, and hope to lose the 5 lbs again in about 6 weeks. We'll see!
It's easy! Keep one's mouth (almost) shut.
Some years ago, realising that my clothes had all shrunk in the wash and M and S sizes had dumbed down, I began a 'regime'. Not being a 'joiner' (a gym or slimming club just isn't for me), I went alone.
I ate everything I wanted to but less of it. Lo and behold, in eighteen months, I had lost 4.75 stones.
Then... I fell and broke my left leg and right foot and was unable to be weight-bearing, so 'he who should be obeyed - when I had no choice', stepped in and..... I put almost three stones back on. It's unfair to entirely blame him but his idea of a portion is not the same as mine and once on the wrong track, I just let go.
So, once again I have taken the plunge and am jogging along nicely on just... eating less. The weight loss is between one and two pounds a week but it is every week.
I am not a martyr, having a piece of dark chocolate each evening and on a sunny weekend, a Magnum ice cream but by eating less and less often, it is easy peasy and can be done
I've been with slimming world a long time n target for nearly five yrs. There is so much stuff you can eat....nothings out of bounds so long as you syn high calorie stuff. I still go for group every week as it's free and I help on the team. It's not a diet but a healthy lifestyle for life. I love it m feel so much better. Hubby does it too and has lost over 3 st.
Its a known fact that fad diets do not work, eat regularly and put your meals on a smaller plate.
I find that not eating till after 1pm, then low carb with good food including fat really works for me. It's a myth that you need 3 meals a day. It's the first time I have lost weight and kept it off. I used to be afraid of being hungry but now find it makes me more invigorated.
I find low carb works best for me, having tried Weight Watchers (which does work, but I find is hard to stick to long term. There's a brilliant Low Carb, High Fat (LCHF) thread here on GN.
Recently OH and I have each bought a Fitbit, which monitors your daily exercise and you input your intake of food. the app (on an ipad) nets one off against the other and so helps you control calorie intake.
So far it's working We also use WW and SW recipes, so that helps too.
My DD lost 2.5 stone with Slimming World but has put put it all back on .She thinks there is too much carb and not enough far in their regime
I have banned cheese from the house and stopped eating handfuls of nuts, sweets in the car.Trying to avoid cake ,biscuits at meetings (I go to fewer in summer so its easier)Have got lost 9lbs and am back down to my 'normal' weight (still 7lbs too heavy) but seem to have plateaued .Does anyone else find this ? I settle at a weight I can get back to with a bit if effort, (used to be 9.7 now 10.7) but going below it is really hard .I lose 3lbs say (and feel a lot thinner!)but a couple of meals out and it immediately goes back on.
I have never found any sort of diet that works Just sensible healthy eating and exercise .Unfortunately my knees restrict latter and I don't swim very well
Stay away from low fat diet food, just eat healthy food cut out eating too much bread and potatoes should not be eaten at an evening meal if you have your dinner then.
I like a jacket potato at lunch time.
I think DD1 lost all her weight with Slimmimg World so I'll ask her advise when we take her dogs back next week. I need to do something. DH brought back an almond croissant from the farmers market for us to share yesterday and I'm 2 pounds heavier this morning!
I am always on a diet and the older you get the harder it is to lose a pound. I mostly have a restricted diet with no alcohol from Monday to Thursday and drink at the weekend, also eating sensible but 'nice' things.
Try FAGE Total 0% Greek Recipe Strained Yogurt (I get mine from either Sainsbury or Tesco). Ingredients: Pasteurised skimmed milk and live active yogurt cultures - No sugar. It's true that fat free yogurts usually have a lot of sugar so this one is the best of both worlds.
I've followed the 5.2 for 3 years feel much healthier giving my body a rest for 2 days. The Fast Diet by Dr Michael Mosley & Mimi Spencer is well worth reading.
I've been back at Slimming World for four weeks now and already my clothes are beginning to feel more comfortable. Had to borrow a belt from OH because my trousers were slipping down and on one embarrassing occasion my knickers also started to descend when I was running to catch up with the GSs! I have been writing down everything I eat which helps to stop cheating and I find the weigh-in at class is what really makes me stick to their eating plan.
Slimming World is working for me. I think the key is that a third of your plate should be speed food... Most veg are speed foods with a few exceptions. I think the rest of it is limiting fat and sugar but you are allowed a few treats a day which have a 'syn' value and you are allowed 15 syns. I found I was eating more but more of the right things!
It took six months for me to loose half a stone on the 5:2 diet. And of course it's all back on. I seem to survive on very little counting calories. I had better luck with fat free but found it hard to stick to. Whats the basis of Slimmers World?
Having tried various 'diets' over the years I've come down to a few basic principles. No added sugar. No low fat, because where fat is removed sugar is added. We have a good breakfast - no cereals, egg or eggs in some form, slice of wholemeal toast. That lasts me a long time. Very late lunch, between 2 and 3. Today we were out and I had quiche and salad. Normally I don't want anything else to eat for the rest of the day, except for fruit. Some days we have an avocado, half a grapefruit, an orange. As I'm awaiting further hip surgery I want to get on top of the weight.
I joined a gym which does a 30 minute circuit ladies only which helped inches and fitness then 18 months ago I changed my eating pattern. Unlike slimming world. I eat full fat Greek yoghurt, that is only a small part of an overall eating plan Mediterranean type diet minimal carbs. No low fat too much sugar! Lost 36 inches and 2 stone managed not to put it back yet.
We have to remember as we get older we can't just eat like we may have been able to in our younger days. I have heard winifred01 the 5-2 is good maybe that will be my next plan.
5-2 diet for me. Lost 3 st. gradually and have kept the weight off. Wish I had known about it years ago, have had a battle for decades.
Thanks for the comments about the Slimmimg World magazine. I have just subscribed to it and look forward to receiving my first copy.
Not really an icecream fan, quite like the clotted cream one though !!
5:2 Fasting diet is good for me. I must get back to it but with DGC here more often in holidays it is hard. Great holiday in Greece which followed 8 weeks of no exercise due to broken foot has piled on lbs!
I've lost 6lbs painlessly over the last few weeks with the Intermittent Fasting Diet.
jamesclear.com/the-beginners-guide-to-intermittent-fasting
When I was young and very slim this was the way I ate, it was natural to me then and I'm adapting to it easily now. If it gets rid of my squidgy bits, I will be happy.
Sorry, he tells you to follow his rules 80% of the time, not 20!
I follow the Food Doctor and always lose weight with him - but, although he tells you to only follow his rules 20%of the time, I find myself deciding it's ok to have chocolate 100%of the time...
