Anyone else going to try this?
There's a Facebook page and lots of people have joined in the last few days .

I'm on track!

Chelsea it's built in to my Samsung smartphone. I'll post a screenshot next.

I don't have to walk with a stick now and I'm slowly building up distance so I've gone from 1.25 miles on day 1 to 2.5 miles yesterday. At the moment it's just getting out everyday and not overdoing it like I did before Christmas. Only another 993 miles to go smile

How's everybody doing?
I'm on track so am happy.
The new Country Walking magazine is in the shops now with a chart to check your progress.

Grannyknot which app are you using? I have downloaded a chart from the Facebook page to enter my daily walks on. It's actually the 2016 chart but it's free so good enough for me!

Actually, shysal, if you do want to be really accurate, yours are probably better. I'd forgotten that the Daffodil doesn't count your first 15 steps or so on each walk, which did used to annoy me. I also like the way you can rescue yours from the laundry - with my history, maybe I should upgrade! smile

Easier if you don't live up a mountain grin

shysal Tue 03-Jan-17 09:20:52

Sorry * maggiemaybe*, I shouldn't have judged all cheap pedometers! The Daffodil looks a bit more sophisticated than the ones I have tried, which miss steps all the time. I am a bit OCD and count my strides quite often to test mine which is always dead accurate.
My Tanita has been in the washing machine a few times too. I take out the battery, allow it to dry in a warm place and off it goes again, doesn't even lose its memory! The personal alarm sounds while it is washing!

I walk most days about 6km, more or less. Sometimes alone, sometimes with a friend and her dog. It's been about 10 years now, and am sure it's gone a very long way to keeping me fit.
I don't have a Fitbit or pedometer. I don't think it really matters how far one walks, as long as it's done often and with enjoyment.
Just #lovewalking

Lovely photo hilda. It was pretty icy and slippy underfoot here in North Shropshire this morning❄️❄️ We started walking on the road but soon diverted to the fields and woods to prevent possible injury to the nether regions ? Mind you - after 15 stiles I was done in !!! A photo is attached ...

Thanks for the photo hildajenniJ

I haven't found the cheap Daffodil pedometers I use to be rubbish, shysal, though I can't speak for other brands. These seem to measure everything the 3 axes offers and none of them have stopped working. I've only had 4 because I've put two of them through a full wash and thrown another in the bin by accident blush. And I've only had to replace one battery. This over the course of about fifteen years.

I joined yesterday and went out for a walk which I probably wouldn't have done normally because the weather was horrible. I must admit I've never been that keen on walking even when we did a lot, so it's good to have an incentive to do some.

hildajenniJ Mon 02-Jan-17 16:19:23

This is where I went. The footpaths around town were icy and slippery so I went down by the Tyne. This is where the Haltwhistle burn meets the South Tyne. I didn't walk as far as I wanted to.

hildajenniJ Mon 02-Jan-17 14:24:53

I started my daily walk yesterday. I'm starting slowly and building up. I'm off for today's walk shortly. I might take a camera with me today, and see if there is anything interesting to photograph. I might post later if there is.

I walk every day, with our dog, but only for about an hour at the most, maybe a mile or 2. But we must keep going - if we don't use it we lose it.

jogginggirl Mon 02-Jan-17 13:41:57

I try to do 8 - 10,000 steps a day. I am going to take on the 'boots on' 1,000 mile 2017 challenge so this will be in addition to trying to achieve my daily steps..... Mr jg and I have started today, a beautiful day to begin something new??

I spend 2-3 days a week travelling to see my mum and sitting with her (5 hours+ all in) so this will certainly be a challenge for me. Good luck everyone ?

LottieSweetpea Mon 02-Jan-17 10:29:37

Amazing Cari!
I try to do 10,000 steps a day but don't always make it
It means a special effort and leaving car at home but I do feel better when I do

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 02-Jan-17 09:47:00

I walked 2402 miles in 2016 (and some more when I broke my fitbit but the new one hadn't arrived)

I have found many benefits - health, saving the planet/money by not driving/social

LottieSweetpea Sun 01-Jan-17 19:23:26

Managed 3 miles today which I wouldn't have done otherwise as it was pouring with rain!

Thank you lottiesweetpea, will sign up.

Blinko Sun 01-Jan-17 17:23:10

I have used my Fitbit since I was bought it last May. I find it not so accurate regarding cals in/out but it probably is accurate re steps taken in a day. No faff at all, I've found.

Grannyknot Sun 01-Jan-17 17:08:57

Meant to add ... and so I did my target today of 6000 steps. Baby steps!

Grannyknot Sun 01-Jan-17 17:07:30

I've activated an app now that comes with my phone that tracks steps, checks my heart rate, and my sleep! Daughter showed me how it works smile
