Pneumonia jab

Just been told that there is a pneumonia jab available - a one off apparently.
Sounds a good idea, but as I sort of believe that when you have a jab such as this, you are likely to suffer a mild form of the illness right away, I can't make up my mind what to do. Anyone willing to share their experiences please

Just do it! Senior citizens do not do well if they get the disease. I had it the jab - no problems.

DH had it, no side effects whatever

Had jab no problem
not even a sore arm. smile

I had it without problems. BIL has just been diagnosed with pneumonia but because he had the vaccine he is not housebound or seriously ill, proves the injection helps.

I have had the pneumonia jab, no ill effects at all. Am I right in thinking you just need it the once or does it last for 10 years?

My late mother had COPD and was offered the pneumonia jab every winter in her final years. It was very effective and she had no side effects whatsoever.

Had the jab, as has DH, no side effects at all. You will be far more ill if you get pneumonia and you haven't had it!

I understood it was once only.

I had the pneumonia jab eighteen months ago age 61, with absolutely no side affects.

I had no side effects whatsoever. hildajenniJ I do not know what type of jab your late mother was given because the pneumonia jab is given once only.

I didn't have side effects from the vaccination. But I certainly felt ill from Pneumonia!

I had it 2 years ago and not had bronchitis since.

I was offered a one off pneumonia jab with my annual flu vaccination about 3 years ago. No ill effects at all though to be honest the flu jab was slightly more uncomfortable. I continue to have annual flu vaccinations without any difficulty.

My extremely fit 24 year old son developed pneumonia after a chest infection and was seriously ill, some years ago. Standing in A&E watching his SATs drop while nurses and doctors ran frantically towards him is not something I would ever wish to repeat. I am not unfit but am not sure I could have survived that at my age!

There is also a vaccination against shingles available for those between 70-79 (I think) I have had that, again without side effects. My DM and her DS both had shingles in their 70s and were very unwell and in a lot of pain for months. DD had it on her face and around her eyes in her 20s and that was bad enough.

I felt fine after. Not even a pain from the knot.

The pneumonia jag is not a live vaccine so you can't catch pneumonia from it. It is once only unless you have no spleen or have certain immune-suppressive conditions.
It is often given with the annual flu jag and is less likely than the flu jag to give side effects.

I had serious pneumonia 70 years ago when I was 6. So I'm very grateful for the immunisation which I had about 10 years ago - without side-effects

Thank you everyone - all very positive
