We are very cold here in West Wales , so looking forward to getting out again soon. Haven't put on any weight and now do 16:8 weekdays. Seems to be working as BS is now 5.4
Steak and veg for dinner tonight. Hope you are all well xxxxx

Lazigirl Fri 02-Mar-18 12:48:14

Just wondered how everyone getting on in this cold weather. Very tempting to fill up with stodgy stuff to keep warm. We have delicious hot cross buns from M&S, and lots of other goodies (for visitors) but am managing to keep to within couple of pounds of desired weight so far, but lack of exercise main problem. How are things in France Mamie?

BBbevan Tue 09-Jan-18 20:44:21

Glad everyone is well. DH and other members of the family have had bad colds since Christmas. I am fine though .
I have tried to stay low carb over the holidays but slipped up a few times.
I was cross about TK too. I suppose that is were the money is.
Keep at it singlegrannie it works very well for me.

Lazigirl Tue 09-Jan-18 20:13:51

I thought that too Merlot. Very disappointing.

merlotgran Tue 09-Jan-18 20:02:54

Hi everyone, Just popping back in as after tomorrow, DH's birthday supper, we will be firmly back in the low carb camp. Having to follow a gluten free diet now has made it easier not to be tempted by bread!!

I watched Tom Kerridge's programme last week and was ever so slightly cross! He lost shed loads of weight on a very low carb diet as well as giving up alcohol but this series is promoting a low calorie diet which he definitely did not follow himself.

It's very similar to the Hairy Dieter's weight loss programme which they did themselves along with other dieters. Why on earth was TK showing us how to make low cal muffins? Just don't eat muffins FGS.

We all know sweetener is full of chemicals and low cal products contain sugar so it seems to be a case of 'Do as I say and not as I do!'!

Sorry for the rant. grin

Well done singlegrannie and Happy New Year to all. We had wet and windy weather throughout the festive season and a distinct lack of exercise, but getting back to normal here now. ?

Lazigirl Tue 09-Jan-18 19:01:06

Well done singlegrannie and keep up the good work. It definitely worked for me. Happy New Year to everyone.

Singlegrannie Tue 09-Jan-18 14:17:21

Happy New Year everyone.
I haven't posted much but am quite proud of my progress so here is an update.
I saw my GP for a diabetes (type2) check up last May and results were disappointing, weight up, HBA1C up, cholesterol up, medication increased. I stopped playing about with low carb dieting and started to take it seriously, and had another check up on November. Results, 6 kg lost, BMI 21.36. HBA1C 6.5 %, cholesterol 2.6.
Doctor was pleased but said he wouldn't reduce medication unless HBA1C is below 6, so I am now working towards that goal when I have my check up in May. I did lapse a little over the Christmas period but am now back on track, spent this morning cooking low carb meals and treats for fridge and freezer.

Happy New Year everyone.

PoshGran Fri 22-Dec-17 12:22:54

I have no idea about specific food triggers in my case BB; since diagnosis I've had turkey each Christmas without a backlash (I think), so I'm keeping my gnarled fingers crossed for this year too!
Have a happy time one & all tchsmile

BBbevan Fri 22-Dec-17 06:54:09

Poshgran , My SiL can't eat turkey because of the purines which aggravate his gout. He will be having a steak for Christmas dinner. Is it the same for you ?

Mamie Fri 22-Dec-17 06:13:48

Great news PoshGran.
Merry Christmas everyone.
??

PoshGran Tue 19-Dec-17 14:16:43

Greetings one & all.
After the recent hiccup (***dy gout!) I'm now fighting fit, 10k plus steps daily & at second target - total weight loss of one & a half stones since Sept.
I had intended to try a maintenance phase at this point but with the delay & Christmas a week away (not counting the 3 Christmas meals I've attended in the last 10 days!) I will be vigilant, not derail the diet & carry on for another half stone in the New Year.

Merry Christmas everyone tchsmile

Lazigirl Tue 19-Dec-17 11:51:25

Happy Christmas low carbers. Don't worry about the roasties, you can always resume normal function in New Year. We are off to Delft - plenty of Advocaat. Luckily I don't like it, but am sure there are lots of goodies I do tchsmile

BBbevan Mon 11-Dec-17 19:59:26

Have a lovely Christmas everyone. One roast potato will do no harm ??

BBbevan Mon 04-Dec-17 06:21:39

I really like the 85% Aldi do some excellent ones.

Mamie Sun 03-Dec-17 17:00:39

I shall have a square of chocolate too. I am very into the very dark chocolate with fleur de sel from our organic shop.

BBbevan Sun 03-Dec-17 16:50:26

Just steak and salad this evening., and a square of chocolate.

Mamie Sun 03-Dec-17 16:30:04

Great progress Riverwalk.
We are having pot roast rose veal, chard with garlic and pancetta and parmesan cauliflower mash.

Riverwalk Sun 03-Dec-17 16:02:27

Eight weeks and 9.5 today smile total of 18 pounds off.

I'm using up various fridge/freezer ingredients so tonight will be having cod loin spread with harissa paste, mashed celeriac & cabbage, and chopped salad of cucumber, tomato & flat-leaf parsley.

About to have a gin & tonic smile

Mamie Tue 28-Nov-17 14:33:07

Glad it is better PoshGran.
We had a nice celebration dinner the other day - partridge with stuffing of sausage meat, dried figs soaked in brandy, dried mushrooms and shallot, wrapped in bacon and roasted, then a slug of port into the roasting dish to make a sauce. Just had some lovely nutty sprouts with it.

PoshGran Tue 28-Nov-17 14:06:00

It's great isn't it Riverwalk (if caught short) just to be able to whip down trousers quickly? grin I'm now in the situation that if I don't put a belt on, the trousers are sweeping the floor at my heels - they are not quite ready to fall down completely & I'm not going to buy new yet!

My meds have done the job & the swelling is gone so walking normally & daily 10K steps plus back on track as of yesterday. Blood test results unremarkable.

My diet prior to LCHF was in response to gout diagnosis - my gp wondered if, it being quite "veggie" (& yes, rather carby!), the increase in LCHF protein intake had tripped the gout. Still, the meds will hopefully block things while I work towards shifting the next 4lbs.
Asparagus, celeriac mash & salmon tonight.
smile

BBbevan Tue 28-Nov-17 08:30:16

You will have to get new ones soon Riverwalk. ?

Riverwalk Tue 28-Nov-17 06:26:14

Posh if you think increased meat has triggered the gout try not to eat bigger portions of it to make up for the lack of carbs, instead have filling vegetables e.g. roasted peppers & aubergines, celeriac, carrots, etc. Anything really to replace the potatoes, rice, pasta and bread!

After seven weeks I'm 9.6, total 17lbs loss. smile

Trousers that were extremely snug (zipped up but button not fastened) can now be taken on/off without undoing the zip or button!

PoshGran Fri 24-Nov-17 21:34:35

Hi Lazigirl thanks for the welcome.
In discussion with gp, she agreed that the changes to my previous diet which I outlined to her as my effort to go LCHF, may have tipped the uric acid level balance in my blood chemistry & precipitated a gout flare-up (only the second one in four years -pre LCHF), but it wasn't stated categorically as being linked.
It may be that I was just unlucky. I'll keep taking the tablets for now!!
