Well done Lazigirl that’s great to read.

Just had a strange conversation with someone yesterday. She mentioned that after her check up with GP it was flagged up she was prediabetic. I sympathised and suggested she cut down on sugars and try low carb eating, to which she replied ‘oh there’s nothing wrong with my blood sugar, it’s nothing to do with that’. I worry sometimes just how little understanding people have of how their bodies work.

Great news on the HbA1c Lazigirl - an incentive indeed for others.

I'm 9.10 this morning, that's 13lbs in five weeks - looking forward to being single digit/single digit. smile

I picked up an obvious tip from My Fitness Pal regarding shakshuka - cook double the base i.e. tomatoes, onions etc., then all you have to do next time is heat and add eggs. I'd never thought of this!

BBbevan Sat 11-Nov-17 02:49:21

Well done Lazigirl give yourself a huge pat on the back.

Mamie Fri 10-Nov-17 13:09:27

Brilliant news Lazigirl. Well done. ?

Lazigirl Fri 10-Nov-17 12:42:41

Wanted to share that just had blood test results and HbA1c is 35 which is normal so am officially no longer in pre diabetic zone. Am pleased as have been struggling lately, putting back a bit of the weight which I originally lost. Just goes to show that only a stone of weight loss by low carbing can make a real difference to insulin resistance. Great incentive so I encourage anyone in the diabetic zone to persevere. It's given me a great incentive to continue low carb eating. Thanks for all the support on here and keep with it Riverwalk, it's so worth it.

Another pound off this morning, 9.12, so 11 pounds in four weeks - being under the 10-stonage is very pleasing! smile

I think this is where it will get harder as in the past have always struggled to stay under 10 stone.

BBbevan Sat 04-Nov-17 17:40:45

We found a lovely restaurant in Conwy that does Greek yogurt and berries for breakfast, How lovely is that.? Of course I had already had a full Welsh breakfast ( minus the fried bread) but will go there tomorrow or Monday
I just love Shakshuka and make it often

Mamie Sat 04-Nov-17 06:46:59

Shakshuka for breakfast sounds lovely. It is already raining here in Normandy, but will dash out between showers later.

Riverwalk Sat 04-Nov-17 06:40:00

I've just breakfasted on shakshuka and coffee and now waiting for daylight to go and walk for at least 90 minutes.

The forecast is for heavy rain later but it's just drizzle at the moment. Even if it brightens up later in the day I prefer an early morning walk so I can then get on with the rest of the day.

Salmon for lunch.

Mamie I think the TV cooks only do a bit of stirring the pot for the camera, not the hard splattering graft!

Mamie Sat 04-Nov-17 06:38:16

We are an hour ahead BB. OH about to go to market. Give my love to North Wales - was at university there a very long time ago.....

BBbevan Sat 04-Nov-17 06:31:43

You are up early Mamie We are having a little break in N Wales at the moment. Sadly I had a sponge pudding last night at dinner. Thought to treat myself. Wrong decision as I have had indigestion all night. I really can't eat any sugar or very many carbs now.
Damp and cold here .

Mamie Sat 04-Nov-17 04:51:54

A spattered t-shirt would be more like it. ? I am a huge Madhur Jaffrey fan and always admired the fact that she could cook in such beautiful saris.

Lazigirl Fri 03-Nov-17 20:14:11

I think your OH in slinky would go down a storm Mamie ?

loopyloo Fri 03-Nov-17 16:41:40

You are all an inspiration. Went to Pilates this morning then went and had a Cornish pasty in a little bakery. They really had absolutely nothing that was low carb. Grrr should have walked home .

Mamie Fri 03-Nov-17 16:41:25

? Lazigirl I am cooking tonight but more often than not it is OH.
Not sure slinky outfits are his thing.....
I agree about the brisk walk Riverwalk. I have started doing the Michael Mosley daily walk very fast uphill thing, as work in the garden has eased off.
I am drinking fizzy Prosecco and Amazon brought some new bungs today....

Lazigirl Fri 03-Nov-17 16:31:19

Mamie You should do a low carb cooking programme in place of Nigella. Your meals always sound so delicious. Need plenty of slinky outfits. smile Well done Riverwalk. I need a bit of a boot camp, will certainly be an incentive if my latest blood test doesn't look good BUT have still kept a stone off over 18 months.

Riverwalk Fri 03-Nov-17 16:26:17

No it's my own 'bootcamp' Mamie, i.e. really being strict about being low-carb, max 1200 calories, daily brisk walking and of course practically no alcohol.

When possible I have my main meal for lunch then early evening just 3 crispbread, 30gs cheese, chopped salad and about 40g of M&S chicken liver pate, or similar. When finished, the kitchen is out of bounds apart from cups of tea. Eating out is a challenge but so far I've had no lapses - last night I had a pre-theatre supper with just one glass of wine and none during the interval!

Your pork dish sounds lovely - it's given me an idea of what to do with chicken breasts that I have in the freezer.

Mamie Fri 03-Nov-17 15:57:54

Well done Riverwalk. ? Are you doing the Mumsnet bootcamp?
Tonight we are having pork and mushrooms with cream and sage (cooked in prosecco that went flat when the bung blew out) and a cauliflower gratin. There are lovely cauliflowers in the markets at the moment here.

Riverwalk Fri 03-Nov-17 15:04:59

It's nearly four weeks since I've been on my bootcamp regime and down to 9.13 so that's 10 pounds off.

I'm 'psyched-up' and not finding it hard, although having had only three glasses of wine and one cocktail in all this time is a bit of a bummer!

Mamie Wed 25-Oct-17 16:42:12

Could you cut the porridge and go with yoghurt or eggs to avoid a few more carbs? Anya is very good at going without wine; I would fail miserably. ?

Lazigirl Wed 25-Oct-17 15:52:53

Another thought is to skip breakfast for a few weeks to lengthen fasting time. I have small bowl of porridge most days.

Lazigirl Wed 25-Oct-17 15:48:09

A small glass of wine sounds ok Mamie but once the bottle's opened...............I think I should abstain for a month or two. I know Anya did for several months, I just haven't the motivation right now BUT I don't want to get back into the diabetes zone. hmm

Mamie Wed 25-Oct-17 14:07:03

Would a small glass of wine be many more units? Four units a week doesn’t sound much. If not, then maybe dark chocolate?

Lazigirl Wed 25-Oct-17 13:59:04

Hello all. I think Tom Kerridge lost over 10 stone! I am struggling. Has anyone heard of alcohol stall, when you drink (alcohol) it stops the body metabolising fat and holds up weight loss even if diet is low carb? I have done well for about 20 months, losing (and maintaining) weight loss at about 1stone 4lbs. Recently I've had lots of stress since my mother had a bad accident and have been drinking the odd beer about 4 nights a week. I now find I have put on about 4lbs although diet mainly low carb. I know it sounds rather pathetic but feel in need of treat when problems overwhelm and don't want to substitute wine (too many alcohol units). Any tips?

BBbevan Tue 24-Oct-17 07:58:10

I do have the Tom Kerridge book. Lovely recipes, but lots of special ingredients and preparation. Use it for special suppers etc. Otherwise I use and adapt to LC ' The Hairy Dieters'
