I can't quite believe it but I have to tell someone- I seem to be melting!
I've been doing the 16:8 diet for almost 3 weeks now. Not very well I might say. During the 8 hours that I can eat I've been eating very naughtily almost defying this dietary approach to fail. However, this morning I put my hands on my hips briefly and they weren't where they used to be! A layer of flab had gone. My fat tummy is still there but there seems to be quite a lot less of it.
I never weigh myself as it would be too depressing but I estimate I must have lost half a stone. Amazing!
I was about to give up on it as I enjoy my breakfast but will definitely be sticking with it. I feel well, sleep well and seem to be experiencing the benefits of this form of intermittent fasting. Weird!

Dianic, I do that too, eat between those hours have never put weight on, in fact I used the scales today, and had lost 1kg since the last weigh in a few weeks ago,it sounds like a great way to loose weight.Good luck everyone.

It sounds amazing! I will have to check with gp as I'm type 2 but I'm sure they'll be happy for me to shift some weight!
Thanks for the info jane10 ?

Well done jane .So you should be able to slip into your burka for the Edinburgh meet-up, after all!

I'm going to do this too, did the 5:2 but I just couldn't bear being hungry but I'm happy with no breakfast and I could make a smoothie to have at 11 and not eating after 7 isn't a prob. We could start a thread? Thanks for the boost Jane10

Hope it works for the extra ‘e’ on waist! grin

J52 Sun 05-Nov-17 13:45:06

Day one! 5 years ago I lost 3 st ( too well hidden at the time, but the dress size said it all!) on the 5:2, but I have noticed a little tightening on the waiste bands.
Today I have started this regime on Jane’s recommendation. I rarely eat after 7.30 so it’s only missing breakfast.

I seriously don't eat very sensibly. I drink coffee with milk in the morning as I always did. I know it sounds too good to be true but the problem for me was changing the way I used to live ie having a lovely breakfast when DH left for work. However, I'm used to it now. I like the flexibility too, today we went out for brunch at 11. I had handfuls of chocolate covered brazil nuts at 9 last night but, hey, it's the weekend so there was only a 14 hour gap but it doesn't matter.
Incidentally DH has now lost so much weight that he's trying to put it on again. He has regular blood tests for meds and all OK for him. If any of you are on regular meds you'd maybe be best to check if the 16 hour fast is suitable for you.

Well done keep up the good work. After reading your posts I’m giving it a go as from tomorrow. Good luck ladies!!

LuckyFour Sun 05-Nov-17 12:08:07

Can you have drinks eg tea with skimmed milk or must nothing pass your lips for 16 hours?

Kim19 Sun 05-Nov-17 11:24:05

Thank you for this Jane 10. Might give it a go as I'm a very intermittent eater anyway. If I have even half as much success as you, I'm one very happy bunny. Love the 'melting'. Thought we were about to move into a menopausal thread. How wonderfully wrong of me!

bluebellwoods Sun 05-Nov-17 11:04:46

I was doing the 5:2 last year and I lost a stone in 3 months. I used to save all my calories until the evening & survived on coffee, herbal teas & oxo drinks. I found if I had a tiny breakfast I was even more hungry than if I hadn't had anything. The 16:8 sounds brilliant. Will give that a go!

PamelaJ1 Sun 05-Nov-17 10:53:59

Can you have milk in your coffee or is that counted as food?

maryhoffman37 Sun 05-Nov-17 10:50:14

Do you do it every day or just on certain days of the week?

Caramac Sun 05-Nov-17 10:22:16

I’m really tempted to try this to support my current, slow, weight loss which I’m quite pleased with. I’m a type 2 diabetic so would need to keep a closer than usual eye on bloI’d glucose levels. Thank you OP for sharing.

I was doing the 5/2 diet before I went on holiday and that worked well. I will now give this 16:8 one a go to get rid of the holiday excess !

Persistentdonor - SW = Slimming World, WW = WeightWatchers!

I tend to eat between those hours anyway Jane10, so maybe that's why my weight is staying off!! smile

Well done on finding your hip bones, lol!

midgey Sun 05-Nov-17 10:14:53

Slimming World?

Omaoma57 Sun 05-Nov-17 10:14:32

I have chosen the low carb diet with intermittent fasting and have lost a stone of flab in four weeks...i do some exercise but now sleep ...yes sleep, do not feel hungry all the time and often go from 7 in the eve right round to lunch time the next day....even hubby thinks its a good woe.....way of eating...goggled it in great detail and then slowly lowered carbs especially the flour or processed variety...

Maggiemaybe Sun 05-Nov-17 10:13:00

I guessed SW was Slimmers’ World?

Maggiemaybe Sun 05-Nov-17 10:12:11

Oh, if only I didn’t enjoy that 9pm glass of wine with the telly time quite so much....

Persistentdonor Sun 05-Nov-17 10:11:57

What is SW ? Elrel? Anyone?

Everthankful Sun 05-Nov-17 10:02:51

My son used this method and the pounds dropped off, it really works. He did eat sensibly but had lots of carbs and protein

Elrel Sun 05-Nov-17 09:53:59

Interesting! I’m wondering whether to attempt to combine this with SW - it could perhaps work. DS often tells me not to eat a meal after 7pm. If non alcoholic and decaffeinated drinks are unlimited that would help.
Anyway all the best to everyone hoping their loved ones will ‘see less of them’ at Christmas!

janmarie Sun 05-Nov-17 09:51:58

Just read up on it as you advised and yes, dear readers, coffee and tea are allowed. Right.... this starts tomorrow. Always start a diet (or should that be lifestyle?) on a Monday!

Charleygirl Sun 05-Nov-17 09:50:55

Bbevan hip bones- what on earth are they? I have not seen mine for many years, they are well cushioned. I would like to lose my stomach- I do not care where.

It sounds promising if I could continue to drink coffee in between the hours I am not allowed to eat.
