I think the fact that you are not eating breakfast has a lot to do with your weight loss. I didn't eat breakfast for many years and my first meal was lunch. I found it easy and my weight stayed off. Since retirement I have eaten breakfast again, and the weight has slowly gone back on. Thank you for reminding me if this, I might just stop eating breakfast again. smile

I had been wondering about doing this for a while and now you're filling me with enthusiasm! Just for clarification..... are you saying you can still have coffee during the fasting hours? If so I am sure I could do this. smile

Well done Jane10 keep up the good work. I was delighted when my hip bones appeared ?

Lazigirl I somehow think that if I didn't eat the chocs, cake, crisps etc I'd lose much more and much quicker.
NotTooOld I do miss my nice plate of toast and orange juice or whatever at breakfast time but it was just a habit. I still have 2 mugs of coffee then. I never felt faint or had a headache or any of the things I'd been told would happen.

Thanks for the info, Jane. The only thing that bothers me about this is missing breakfast. Don't they say breakfast is the most important meal of the day? Of course, the eight hours could be 9am to 5pm then you could have late breakfast, lunch and afternoon high tea! Brilliant.

Had a look and looks very promising and great that it's worked for you Jane. I didnt notice anything about scoffing chocs smile tho!

As long as there's a 16 hour gap its whatever suits your lifestyle. I suggest you Google it for more details and info about the health research behind it.

Does it have to be the same 8 hours each day?
Could it be 9 till 5 one day and 11 till 7 the next?

Re alcohol: oh yes. I'm sure I shouldn't but for me it's anything goes within the 8 hours. I only drink at weekends anyway and even then only one glass of wine. I've been eating loads of carbs, M&S chocs have been on offer and gratefully consumed. I had sausage rolls for lunch. I was sort of trying to push the diet to not work but it really seems to. My discovery this morning has really been a big surprise.
DH has been doing it longer than me and his clothes are literally hanging off him. I'm not on commission btw just amazed.

I did see it mentioned on another thread and it sounded interesting.

Now you have found that it works it sounds even more interesting!

Can you drink alcohol as long as it's before 8pm Jane10?

Jane10 Sat 04-Nov-17 13:44:47

It's the 16:8. All it consists of is eating all food within an 8 hour time slot. What we do is eat between 12 and 8pm. That suits us both. It's entirely flexible though to suit your lifestyle. In practice it means I don't have breakfast. The research shows that the 16 hour fast allows the body to 'reset' and recover from the onslaught of food and carry out repairs etc. I know it's counterintuitive but it works!

NotTooOld Sat 04-Nov-17 13:20:39

That's brilliant, Jane. Well done! What is this diet you're on? I might do the same. Please tell.

Jane10 Sat 04-Nov-17 12:54:41

I can't quite believe it but I have to tell someone- I seem to be melting!
I've been doing the 16:8 diet for almost 3 weeks now. Not very well I might say. During the 8 hours that I can eat I've been eating very naughtily almost defying this dietary approach to fail. However, this morning I put my hands on my hips briefly and they weren't where they used to be! A layer of flab had gone. My fat tummy is still there but there seems to be quite a lot less of it.
I never weigh myself as it would be too depressing but I estimate I must have lost half a stone. Amazing!
I was about to give up on it as I enjoy my breakfast but will definitely be sticking with it. I feel well, sleep well and seem to be experiencing the benefits of this form of intermittent fasting. Weird!
