I can't quite believe it but I have to tell someone- I seem to be melting!
I've been doing the 16:8 diet for almost 3 weeks now. Not very well I might say. During the 8 hours that I can eat I've been eating very naughtily almost defying this dietary approach to fail. However, this morning I put my hands on my hips briefly and they weren't where they used to be! A layer of flab had gone. My fat tummy is still there but there seems to be quite a lot less of it.
I never weigh myself as it would be too depressing but I estimate I must have lost half a stone. Amazing!
I was about to give up on it as I enjoy my breakfast but will definitely be sticking with it. I feel well, sleep well and seem to be experiencing the benefits of this form of intermittent fasting. Weird!

Got it, I think! Doh!

I can't find the new thread - anyone give me a clue please?

I'm struggling with SW, started well but now I'm stuck. I thought I couldn't cope without breakfast but have missed a few times recently and was ok. SO - here goes! Thankyou so much Jane10.

I'm clutching at straws here - but is 16:8 done every day? So it becomes a permanent way of life, rather than the 5:2 done twice a week. I guess it is, which ought to make it very effective.

I've just done my first morning on this, as I've been struggling a bit with my usual 5:2 in the colder weather this autumn. Fingers crossed!

I do Slimming World and that works for me but this sounds interesting, might give it try.

I've opened a new thread, hope that's ok Jane10 as you started this one but it seemed like a good idea, thanks for kicking it off

I saw a program, probably a couple of years ago, about a diet very similar to this. It was presented by a ?doctor type person. He said that you should only eat between 7am and 7pm as the body needs a 12 hour period to rest. Obviously this would give you time to fit 3 meals in. He was quite specific about not eating after 7pm as he said the metabolism slows down quite dramatically after this time. It does sound quite similar to the 16:8 diet and I know they had very good results

I can testify that it does work, having lost almost 2 stones in the last few months. DH still works and doesn't get home until around 7pm so we eat fairly late but normal food and the odd glass of wine or three. I've never been one for breakfast first thing so I can't say I've missed not eating before noon - or even later if we've had cheese and biccies or something similar for a late snack. I do walk a lot more than I used to and often walk 5 or 6 miles first thing, having just had some lemon squeezed into hot water. Now I just need some advice on how to get rid of the nasty wrinkled skin on my previously bingo wing arms!

???

Jane10 Sun 05-Nov-17 21:02:16

Perhaps you could experiment with that yourself this week*NFK*! Do let us know your findings!! What a way to lose weight.

NfkDumpling Sun 05-Nov-17 20:59:21

Thanks Jane, I’ll stick to hot water or coffee then.

I take 67 calories is an average fart. This makes the school boy setting fire to bottled farts a legitimate experiment then. I wonder what a good rip roarer would burn.

Not eating from 6 at night til 10 in the morning will mean that we can't snack on biscuits, peanuts, crisps or sweets which are definitely our dieting downfall. We've started today. It sounds so easy. Thanks Jane.

Jane10 Sun 05-Nov-17 19:53:29

NFK I think fruit juice might be just too much sugar. Stick to tea/coffee type drinks out with your 8 hours.
I've just had a big plate of bangers and mash and sprouts.
On a completely different subject I was interested to read that each fart burns up 67 calories. Of course I have no experience of such events!

Finished until 12 tomorrow, apart from Green tea with mint. I certainly don’t feel hungry and have just eaten normally, lunch and dinner, no between meals. Really didn’t notice no breakfast.

NfkDumpling Sun 05-Nov-17 19:36:42

5:2 didn’t work for me. I lost a pound each ‘starve’ day and put it back on on the eating days even though I was careful what I ate.

I’ll give this a go. No breakfast. Just coffee. What about fruit juice?

I was thinking a thread would be a good idea. It's always good to support and share.

Menopaws Sun 05-Nov-17 18:54:00

Right I'm done until 11 tomo

Menopaws Sun 05-Nov-17 18:45:30

Oh no, I've got five minutes before my deadline, just time for a Rolo choc pot thing....excuse me a min

Jane10 Sun 05-Nov-17 18:45:03

Good luck all. This time next month there will be less of us than meets the eye!
(If you know what I mean!)

Theoddbird Sun 05-Nov-17 18:11:55

I just googled it. I can still have coffee in the morning and will fit in with my work if I choose 1 until 9. Sounds good...will start tomorrow smile

Jane10 Sun 05-Nov-17 17:51:02

You just get used to it. It'll be 3 weeks tomorrow for me. I only noticed the flab loss yesterday.
Glad you've found a new house and I hope you have fun getting it just the way you want it.
It seems like ages since you were last at a GN lunch.

Marmight Sun 05-Nov-17 17:17:55

Thanks for this Jane. I googled it in the middle of the night and decided there and then to start. I need to lose as much as I can by the end of the month (going to Oz and don't want to look like a beached whale). I last ate yesterday at 6pm so this morning had an apple at 11 then out to lunch at 1.30. As it's my first night in the new house the fridge is bare so I won't be tempted tonight. Wonder how long it'll last ?

Jane10 Sun 05-Nov-17 17:17:42

Seriously, I haven't avoided temptation. I always liked fruit and veg but as well as that I eat lots of carbs, pasta, chips, cheese, chocolate and other foods generally frowned upon by calorie controlling diets. Apart from anything else, this is extremely easy to shop for and fit social life round. Previous diets have made me obsess about food. I must say though that I don't seem to have to eat as much in order to feel full up.

MawBroon Sun 05-Nov-17 15:57:45

Good news Jane10 if you have lost a few pounds,

I think I might have found them grin !

lovebeigecardigans1955 Sun 05-Nov-17 15:50:35

This sounds great - I'll try it between 10 am and 6 pm. I do have a problem with avoiding temptation though, I must admit.
