Tell us how you are getting on

Welshwife Tue 05-Dec-17 17:20:43

Just been to see the GP and he has reduced my meds slightly again. I have to have another blood test in a month as my salt is still too low and my potassium a bit high - he has removed the diuretic pills now so will see how I go. He says to watch the reflux and he will give me something if it continues. He tells me I should have more energy with less meds.
Still getting a small amout of weight loss regularly.

That's a good steady weight loss WW I was interested to read about how BP tabs can cause reflux I am on tablets for what dr things is gord and hiatus hernia. Regarding my diet I went of plan yesterday but back on today .

Welshwife Sat 02-Dec-17 19:52:47

I have had a bit of a funny week. My Blood Pressure was so low on Mon that I took no meds and slept most of the day so ate very little. Tues was much the same - no meds --- but then I noticed no Gaviscon either! So I consulted Dr Google and found reports that some BP meds do give reflux. I am back on meds again but slightly reduced - the reflux is back despite eating small portions and eating main meal at lunchtime. I have a GP appt this week so will discuss all this with him.
I have to say that the reflux has been so bad - gradually getting worse over time- that I had begun to think it was something else. I have been dreading eating and the thoughts of Christmes dinner!!??. My list of foods I could tolerate had got to almost none - all very depressing.
I have continued to lose weight slowly - about a kilo a week so I am pleased and the 16 hours I find no problem at all.

Today I am almost back to normal after having the flu for the past 3 weeks and losing half a stone. We shall see what happens now I’m getting back up to speed although not back up to normal activity- stuffing still needs putting back!

So now 12st. 8lb.

Wheniwasyourage Sat 02-Dec-17 18:58:57

Maggiemaybe I've had the same experience as you with the 5:2 and have now been on the 16:8 for nearly 3 weeks. Today my gardening trousers were definitely easier to get into, so I'm dead chuffed!

Good luck!

Maggiemaybe Sat 02-Dec-17 14:27:19

I'm going to give this a try until Christmas and see how I get on. I've been doing the 5:2 for years now. I lost a stone at the start but have just been maintaining since, which is good, but I feel trying this new routine might just kick start a little more weight loss before Christmas. I'll have to do a bit of bobbing and weaving as far as the timings are concerned, as I don't want to miss out on my g & ts on my weekly pub quiz nights or my wine on a weekend (and I don't want to drink them too early either). So some days might involve eating between 2 and 10 only. DH, who does most of our cooking, had trouble getting used to catering for my fast days, so looked at me askance when I announced the new regime, but I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes!

I went out last night and had not expected food to be provided, so I had a little, not to be rude. But have lasted till 2 pm today to make up for it.
I definitely feel as if I’ve lost some weight, but I’m not weighing myself till tomorrow morning.

Luckylegs Sat 02-Dec-17 13:22:22

I'm just over two weeks and haven't noticed anything much. I don't mind it though, it gets me up and out walking the dog sooner rather than sitting on the iPad and getting on with things in the morning, then I end up not eating until 1.30 or even 2! What I have noticed is going to my line dancing on Tuesday mornings is difficult. I felt a bit faint and funny this week so I had to buy a hot chocolate from the machine! I might have to have a bit of breakfast on Tuesdays.

After initial loss I've slipped a bit and am now back on course but still love it

Jane10 this sounds like a very ‘sensible’ diet - providing people don’t gorge during the 8 hours but just eat sensibly.

Jane10 Thu 30-Nov-17 06:47:51

It's a great feeling Parsleywin! Get used to it, there's more to come (or go, if you know what I mean!)

I had a very pleasant surprise this morning when I pulled on a big woollen jumper that I bought a couple of months ago for warmth rather than looks. I was freezing so I put a snug, thin polo neck under it - and was shocked and delighted to see that the jumper skimmed rather than clung to me and was much looser than before. Felt quite perky all day!

Had heart burn yesterday for the first time in 3 weeks. BUT - I over ate. Had too many potatoes, too much bread and too large helpings. Hope I've learned a lesson. Wish I could say I was just testing, but can't. It was greed.
However, I still feel determined to stay on 16:8 and hope it becomes a lifestyle.

Just been reading through this thread (all 10 pages).

What I’m getting is that most are finding this a good way to break bad habits, like grazing at night. Also that it’s quite easy to keep to if you set your mind to it.

It also sounds as if it might actually be good for you to fast like this - mention of less heartburn/acid reflux, insulin intolerance, gut bacteria, and so on.

Must admit I sleep better if I don’t eat after my evening meal.

Jane10 Mon 27-Nov-17 12:34:07

Just don't eat biscuits all day!! Try a nice mug of lemon and ginger tea if you need some oral input!

jamsidedown Sun 26-Nov-17 22:39:57

Wheniwasyourage the stepping exercise getting on and off the scales might be helpful! I have not done very well this weekend, and tomorrow I volunteer at the CAB and usually end up eating biscuits all day - there’s always Tuesday ...

tidyskatemum Sun 26-Nov-17 21:31:00

I don't think anyone should get too hung up about not following the rules now and again. I break it every Sunday when we have bacon butties around 10am, though I admit I usually go out for a long walk as soon as it gets light. I've been neglecting the walking bit in the last week as it's been so wet and absolutely filthy underfoot and have resorted to the exercise bike, which is far more of a penance!

It’s good to hear how everyone is getting on.
I managed a 20 hr fast, by accident!
A cup of tea when I woke up, then I planned eating at 12, at a stop on the long drive I was making to the North.
The journey start was delayed, so didn’t set off till 11am. Stopping, eventually at 2.30 for lunch. Surprisingly I wasn’t very hungry and a small snack filled me up.
Hopefully the longer fast will have benefits!
Sitting in a car certainly keeps you away from food!

As predicted, I've had a bit of a blip. I had 3 breakfasts, a brunch and a dinner in a 24 hour period on a long haul flight. No willpower -admittedly a lot of fruit & fish was involved but I think I've cracked the jetlag, its now 7am and its a new day .........upwards and onwards. If Jane can bend down sans spare tyre, then so will I (and I won't be at the Edinburgh C lunch, but she will wink....)

Wheniwasyourage Sun 26-Nov-17 16:54:26

Jane10, you are an inspiration!

Jane10 Sun 26-Nov-17 12:24:10

Drink whatever you want NannyMags. The best thing about this scheme is that there are no rules except about eating during the 8 hours.
I've just discovered my thighs have mysteriously reduced and that I can bend right down now due to my spare tyre evaporating.

NannyMags Sun 26-Nov-17 10:46:02

I am very interested in this diet. Can I have a cup of tea with milk when i get up or is that a no no ? I am thinking of doing 12-8pm I start work at 11;30 and break at 2 so plan to eat lunch then and dinner at 6pm then a couple of hours and a couple of digestive biscuits and a cup of tea about 7pm

Wheniwasyourage Sun 26-Nov-17 09:57:46

We tried changing the battery, jamsidedown, but it didn't help. The first weight you get when you stand on is not the one you need to settle for, as it goes down at least a kilo (usually) if you persist. I wonder, if I spent all day stepping on and off, whether I would end up with no recordable weight at all...

Jane10 Sat 25-Nov-17 22:17:21

You probably are losing weight but it's not noticeable yet. My first post was about how I suddenly felt that my tum and hips had somehow changed. Then nothing noticeable for a few weeks but now my legs seem slimmer. Even if I don't lose weight I'll be lowering my BP and cholesterol level.

Overthehills Sat 25-Nov-17 21:57:03

I’ve been doing the 16:8 for more than three weeks but am not seeing any significant loss so am feeling a bit fed-up. I’m
Really strict about not eating within the 16 hours - any ideas what else I can do? Maybe give up alcohol (one glass of wine or a g & t before supper) till Christmas?
