I'm thinking of taking up running. Am I too old at 71?

Feeling puffed as just done day 1 of c25k. Must admit it was more of a walk/brisk walk than brisk walk/jog but at least I did it!

Bathsheba as far as I m aware the NHS does run walking programmes they certainly do in my area as I used to coordinate them they usually have a variety of lengths

Not sure Blinko if she actually runs but she tells you when to warm up, run or walk. There's also Jo Whilley and Michael Johnson!

There was an article about this in the Times on Monday(?) and I was heartened to see that you could start by walking 5k, then proceed at your own pace, adding in jogging. I might even manage that!

Does Sarah Millican run? I didn't know that...

I'm thinking of trying this. I've downloaded the BBC One You app. You can choose your motivator - I've picked Sarah Millican and have your own music/radio/ podcast as you go.

I've just had a look at the plan and was disappointed to see it's all about running. I've been advised not to run because my knees would not be able to take it. I've had one arthroscopy already and since then have had more cartilage break off. It's a pity the plan doesn't have an alternative, walking, programme. Though I suppose I could just decide to do it that way - better than staying on the couch smile

5 km?
Actually, it does sound better in km than miles.

DS followed it but having gone from c25K, he then followed that up by going 5k2c fairly soon after.

He has now taken up cycling again, because it means he can get around his local area much more quickly for shopping etc and that seems to have held. Work is 60 miles away so he won't be commuting by bike in the near future.

Shirleyw Tue 02-Jan-18 19:18:44

It's from the nhs choices.....also the Naha choices have a good 12 week eating plan for losing weight. Have started that too lol.....

Ah I think I may have heard about it. Couch to standing upright might be a good start for me grin

BlueBelle Tue 02-Jan-18 08:37:00

It’s an app to help you increase your exercise daily so I think it stands for Couch to 5 km
I was thinking of giving it a go Shirley but haven’t put the app on yet
