I’m a pear !

I have returned to my own healthy eating plan as I need to lose a stone. I am pear shaped with a small bust, reasonable waist and overlarge hips.

On reading the ever sensible Dr Scurr in the DM this morning I discovered a healthy waist size is 31 ins for women and 37 ins for men. I rather smugly measured myself expecting a pat on the back only to find I am 5 ins over the recommended size ?

Onward and upward or preferably downward.

Just seen your earlier comment about wanting to lose half a stone and maybe more.

I found setting myself small targets at first and then chipping away at the weight worked well for me.

We all have to find what works best for us as individuals.

GrannyIris. The losing of 3lbs is doable. Get yourself prepared with the food you are going to start eating. Remove anything that will be too tempting.

IMO life is never stress free so sometimes you have to carry on trying even through the bad times it will be worth it.

I don’t know what eating plan you are going to use but in this cold weather I make sure I have warming low cal soup available and a small bread roll or toast and fill myself up that way. Best of luck.

Onward and downward.

Not impressed, weighed myself this morning and put on 3lb since Jan 6th. Willpower and keeping stress free needed. Let’s hope this time next month I can have it gone. Have a great day ladies x

You’ve started well done ?????

Sasperilla Sun 27-Jan-19 17:39:09

Good luck everyone for the week ahead. I've started logging what I eat on my fitness pal these last few weeks. Doesn't make for pretty reading ! On positive note I'm managing to cycle about 90 mins each day .. very slowly.. back and forth to work. And today I went on a 5k walk. It took me 55 mins which is ridiculous when I used to do parkrun and finish it in 40 mins. But at least we are all trying which is the main thing !

Another lurker. I lost some weight by fasting about a year ago either 16/8 or the odd 24 hr but slipped out of the habit. Would like to lose 3 stone but half a stone be very nice, sick of wearing the same couple of pairs of jeans when I have plenty of tight ones waiting. Get stressed/tired and then I blow it, have had a week without wine and kept away from white bread (not the biscuits) which is a start lol. Good luck all

sadsadsad Oh Dear - how's this for hanging by a threadhmm
Sunday morning weigh shows a gain of 0.8 of a pound.
I keep saying to myself it's nothing, it's less than a pound gain, but how can I justify saying that when I would be so very excited if it had been a loss of 0.8!!!
I know the problem - while the physio is attacking my knee on a weekly basis it has been very uncomfortable to walk at my usual break-neck speed. Hopefully the physio will end this coming week and with the help of the daily exercises my mobility will increase.
This weekend is just a slip - I'm climbing back up while we speak!
Spring is also coming and that should make going out for walks etc. more tempting, but I will not give up! Perseverance is the secret so go for it everyone grin
Join us when you can Sasperilla the more of us there are the more support we will get from each other, and thanks again NanKate for your continual support!
flowers for all my fellow strugglers!

Welcome Sasperilla we are a small very friendly group. Can I share with you one of the things I used to do which set me up for a fall. I would say I will start my diet on Monday and then just carry on filling my face till then. On Monday cut back with no real plan and give up about 8 days later.

Theses are the things that got me losing weight

Realising I needed a healthy eating plan for life, not just a few weeks.

Starting immediately not putting off the dreaded day.

Occasionally falling off the wagon but getting straight back on the next day.

Denying myself nothing but just eating everything in smaller portions.

The NHS Diet Plan which meant calorie counting for a few weeks till I got the hang of it worked for me.

Remembering that I could do something to avoid diabetes, heart problems etc.

I hope this doesn’t sound evangelical.

Thanks Fourormore for your kind words.

Best of luck.

Bless you Sasperilla join us as soon as you feel ready! NanKate is amazing, encouraging us when we slip and congratulating us when we do well.
We all have ups and downs - I have come back after a bit of a dodgy time and far from judging me, everyone is so encouraging. I weigh in tomorrow morning and I don't believe there will be a huge success to report, but either way I know I am supported - we are all supported in out struggles so go for it!!! You won't regret it!

Billybob4491 Sat 26-Jan-19 15:51:36

Welcome Sasperilla, I come in here regularly for encouragement (and receive it!), climb on board.

Sasperilla Sat 26-Jan-19 14:22:01

I'm lurking here, reading all your posts, trying to summon up motivation to start making efforts but not quite there yet ! I'm 54, only 5 foot 2 and somewhere between 13 and 14 stone so very obese. I have got away with murder so far with thank God no serious health complications but I know good luck doesn't last forever and I need to make changes to avoid diabetes or heart issues later. Well done to all !!! Will join you hopefully over the coming weeks!

The betahistine stopped the very loud sounds for me, brilliant ?

Katyj Fri 25-Jan-19 11:47:42

Thanks Nan, fortunately I don't have trouble sleeping, fingers crossed I hope I never do, it must be awful.I've got a head cold at the moment, which doesn't seem to want to go anytime soon, so my ears are worse.I've also been prescribed some betahistine to try, just waiting for the cold you clear.

NanKate Thu 24-Jan-19 21:29:09

On the subject of tinnitus have you tried listening to a sound monitor you can get from the Deaf Society? I used to listen to a steam train which got me off to sleep. I have a radio in every room so I don’t have to put up with silence. I notice my tinnitus is worse at night when I am tired.

I am now into meditation and listen to many YouTube free guided meditations at night and sometimes in the day.

With regard to weight loss I couldn’t follow a diet where certain foods are banned so I have trained myself to be satisfied with smaller quantities, often I am not hungry but just want the taste of a particular food. I always have sugar free sweets available. I have half a Slimfast caramel biscuit with a cup of tea if I am in desperate need of a sugar hit.

Best of luck.

Katyj Thu 24-Jan-19 19:08:23

Thanks for replying Nana. You've certainly not had a good time of it, Glad to hear things have settled down for you.I sometimes get the pulsatile tinnitus, drives me mad ! I have the ordinary tinnitus continually, it's become worse over the last couple of years, and effected my hearing, does get me down.I'm hoping to feel better mentally soon when I loose weight, I hate being overweight, it's making me depressed, so definitely need to keep it up.

NanKate Thu 24-Jan-19 17:45:39

Hi Katy. First of all after about 12 years of tinnitus I have got used to the ticking sound to my heart beat in my head. However when I first got the tinnitus I was going literally mad with the very loud sounds I was getting, which have thankfully subsided. At that time I was overweight and I thought if I become diabetic on top of the tinnitus I would have a mental breakdown or worse.

So the tinnitus didn’t improve with the weight loss but I felt better in myself. I then restarted my eating plan last year when going through a traumatic event when my son had a complete mental breakdown and the stress stopped me eating for a while. I decided I had to make something out of the whole sorry mess so I returned to my portion control and some calorie counting.

My son is now a whole lot better and I am back to the weight I want to be.

I still have an occasional choc and glass of wine.

Katyj Thu 24-Jan-19 15:42:33

NANKATE. Hi, just been reading your story up thread.I have tinnitus, and trying to loose weight at the moment. How did the weight loss affect your tinnitus, hope it's improved.Well done with the weight loss.

Shirleyw Thu 24-Jan-19 15:33:18

stayed the same this week

fourormore Sun 20-Jan-19 21:29:59

Thanks NanKate but I'm not allowing myself to get too smug as I have not quite reached the weight I was at the beginning of December (178.6).
However providing I lose a pound or more this coming week I will be back there and hopefully on the right road again after my blip!

NanKate Sun 20-Jan-19 20:56:04

Another success story, BRILLIANT news Four ????

fourormore Sun 20-Jan-19 09:46:12

The good news from several strugglers continues to spread this week - at this morning's weigh-in I was under the 180lb mark again! 179.4lbs - a loss of 2.6 on last week thank goodness!
Pleased to say that the physio hit the mark on Tuesday (there is a person-shaped hole in her ceiling nowgrin!) She did a bit of massage and it has been a lot better since. I'm back again this Tuesday. The exercises hurt a bit but I will persevere to reach the number of repetitions that she wants, as movement has been so much more comfortable. Also no 'comfort biscuits' this week so I must keep that up and not hit 180 ever again grin
Good luck to everyone else!!!

Billybob4491 Sun 20-Jan-19 07:19:01

You can do it Shirley, we are all rooting for you!
