3 years 7 months ago on 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.

We now have a small band of ‘regulars’ called Pears who have joined our ranks and they have brought new ideas and support. Many thanks girls what would I do without you all. I am so grateful you have stayed so loyal and been such good friends to us all.

Do join us the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.

Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.

Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.

So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my way of life.

You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.

Our new mantra is - Eat Less for Life.

So Onward and Downward Pears ??

Hi everyone. Lovely to hear all of your news?. Well done on the weight loss everyone. Especial congratulations to Whiff on such a good loss! It must feel brilliant to know a 14 will fit.- what an inspirational journey you have been on. I totally agree with craft being a brilliant distraction.
I have lost 1.5lb,maybe helped by doing a Jo Wicks video daily. It's a gentle one but a start! I hope everyone who is feeling poorly feels better this week. Have a lovely week everyone.?

Whiff Sun 03-Jul-22 13:52:32

Sarahmob sorry you still have Covid. At least you got out into the fresh air. I had a Seasalt tunic on when I went to craft group and was told I need to buy a smaller size. It a 16. Never thought to try a 14. Well done losing the pound you will know when you are happy at the size you want to be but still happy with how you look.

Yes off to Digby next month. Looking forward to it.

Good morning ladies,
Another pound off for me this week, I’m now nearly half a stone under my initial target. I’m now being told my many not to lose any more weight as I’m ‘too skinny’. I’m not listening to them however and am going to settle soon. When I decide what’s right for me.
I’m now on day 9 with Covid, still testing positive and throughly fed up of being at home and seeing nobody except DH. We did get into the car and drive out to the marshes yesterday for a walk along the sea bank, knowing that we wouldn’t meet anybody. It did me so much good to get some exercise and fresh air.
Is that you heading for Lincolnshire Whiff? I hope you have a great visit with your family.

Have a good week ladies ?

NanKate hope you are enjoying looking after your grandsons. One thing about looking after children is they have you rushing here and there which is a good way to work off calories. Exhausting though.

SachaMac hope you are feeling better and fully recovered . And still managing to lose a pound while feeling ill is an achievement. Hopefully you can taste food . When my daughter and son in law had it they lost their sense of taste. My son in law has it twice luckily my daughter and grandsons didn't get it nor me. So far I have managed to avoid it but know my luck will run out soon. Covid cases are on the rise again here this week .

Four it's annoying when you plateau but it's better than putting pounds on . Your gain is slight. On Wednesday after my exercise class it was raining heavily. It was so bad I had to strip off in my kitchen and the only dry clothes I had on were my bra and knickers. Luckily I had put on my cotton shower proof jacket as it was sunny with a stiff breeze. Everything went into the wash no point drying it so was easier to wash it.

Well stuck to my diet this week and much to my amazement lost 3.5lbs . Must stick to it again this week. Going to see my brother and sister in law next month for 4 days. She will finally get the rest of her birthday present as I wouldn't trust it to the postal service. Will take my brother's card and present with me as it will be his birthday near the end of the month. Save postage.

My craft group have decided to have a secret Santa this year . Glad they decided now as I cross stitch and it's not a quick craft. But that's why I love it. Plus you can't eat while doing it. It's got to be something hand size that can be put on or in the tree. So after doing the ironing I need to look through my magazines and books and decide what to do. Talking about magazines I am always entering competitions in the ones I have and won this . But it will have to wait as have other WIPs to finish. Once I do it will make it into a cushion.

Have tomatoes growing on my plants. Peppers ,butternut squash and runner beans have flowers. French beans are forming and picked my first courgettes yesterday only small but have others growing and these where in the way. Strawberry plants have flowers again so will have a few more.

Think I need help as I brought 3 more plants this week. But at least I can't eat them?.

Have a good week pears.

Happy Sunday everyone - hope you have all had a good week enjoying the sunshine and the showers.
As suspected I have stayed much the same - up 0.6lb - not ideal but I think I am on another 'plateau'.
I've been both really good and slightly naughty this week so not really surprised or worried. Things will move again but usually when I 'plateau' I'm stuck for a few weeks then suddenly it will move again.
Quite a busy and possibly tricky week ahead so here's hoping!
Good luck everyone! flowersflowersflowers

Morning all, hope everyone is doing ok & keeping well. I’m pleased to say I’m feeling much better following my brush with Covid. I could only manage to eat ice cream & ice lolly’s for a couple of days because of my awful sore throat but have somehow still managed to lose 1lb. Its left me feeling tired & sluggish though so I haven’t felt much like cooking or preparing salads etc so need to pull my socks up this week and get back to it.

I’d like to try and make Whiff’s tea loaf this week and also Dorsetcupcake61’s bean dip, I have a tin of butter beans at the back of the cupboard and lots of fresh parsley & mint in the garden.

Have a good week all, enjoy your meals, I hope we get some more sunshine sunshine

NanKate Tue 28-Jun-22 07:55:21

Morning folks. Off to look after DGSs for 10 days whilst their dad is on a book tour, so I expect some chocolate eating, fish and chips etc they will love it and so will I ??

CocoPops Tue 28-Jun-22 07:25:26

Still a couple of lbs above target. I'm starting weekly aquafit tomorrow and I intend to ride my bike more often. Looking at a roll of midriff fat in the bathroom mirror this morning perhaps I should set a new target! Have a good week Pears.

Whiff Sun 26-Jun-22 14:46:48

Well done on the loses. Covid cases are on the rise here as well. People have got complacent. I still haven't stopped wearing my mask when out and keeping my distance. Hopefully we will all have a booster along with our flu jab come autumn.

Dorset I have a book I write recipes in the tea bread is under mom's tea bread.

As expected I put on 2lb this week. But had a brilliant time with my friend . She loved it here. It was very hot all the week . We did a lot of walking in the heat. Breakfast and dinner was low cal but lunch time was high.

I took her for afternoon tea at a beautiful hotel . It was lovely. We brought the leftovers back here. At the beach we collected a lot of sea glass mainly green but a couple of bits clear and blue . My daughter says she's not been lucky enough to find any. And she's been looking for years.

Already decided what she wants to see next visit.

Hope all Covid sufferers are well again soon.

Back on my eating less for life. Have a good week everyone. ?

Dorsetcupcake61 Sun 26-Jun-22 10:27:42

Oops forgot to add 2 teaspoons of olive oil to dip recipe!

Dorsetcupcake61 Sun 26-Jun-22 10:25:09

Good morning lovely ladies. Good to catch up with how you all are. ?. Thank you for the recipe,I will write it down in my cookery book under Whiffs Teabread?. I still buy cookery books ,but now they have to be very special ones. I know there are millions of good recipes online but when I find one that really works I have a recipe note book as working from a device is something I find annoying! I must admit I am also rather fond of seeing the spots of buttercream etc on the pages, always brings back memories of happy baking/ cookery sessions. ?. My recent purchase is Janes Patisserie by Jane Dunn. I have seen lots of her recipes on Facebook and a few weeks ago tried her carrot loaf cake ,which was lovely. She seemed to have lots of new ideas so bought the book. By no means low calorie but nice for special occasions.
Sacha Mac and Sarah mobile I hope you and your families are on the mend. Covid is certainly here to stay, case in our area are rising again after consistently dropping, and that's with a lot of people no longer testing. I suppose I'm lucky in that I only go into the office one or two days a week where is small group in a large ventilated space. I have neighbours and friends who are on frequent foreign holidays including cruises. I'm more cautious and do keep in back of mind that vaccine affects may be waning. Hey ho there seems so much going on in the world at the moment I only watch the news briefly.
That said having a Dorset holiday with family in October!
I have put on a pound. For some reason I had a very hungry day on Thursday. Still back on straight and narrow again now. I do have a lovely summer recipe that you all might enjoy.
Bean Dip.
Drained tin of butter beans.
Squeeze of lemon juice
1 small crushed garlic clove
1 tablespoon chopped parsley
1 tablespoon chopped mint.
I tablespoon water.
Bless all ingredients together and season to taste. You can add more water to get texture want.
Whole recipe 334 calories.
I normally find half the recipe plenty with veg sticks and a small pitta.
It can be made with dried mint and parsley but fresh nicer.
Have a good week everyone!

fourormore Sun 26-Jun-22 10:24:15

Morning all, another loss of 1.4lb to be reported today - again nothing really to shout about as this has brought me back to where I was before we pigged out on our short break a few weeks ago!!!
Still, it's progress and I'm happy with that.
Good luck everyone as we all plod on together - and for anyone who seems to be plateau-ing or may gain a little, we've all been there and will support each other whichever way the scales move!

Sarahmob Sun 26-Jun-22 09:35:49

Morning ladies, a 1lb loss this week, putting it down to the Covid myDH selflessly shared with me. The one good thing is that my appetite is reduced so am eating less. Lots of berries from the garden too which is lovely. Good to catch up with all your news, keep on going.

Shirleyw Tue 21-Jun-22 05:32:45

Well done on the losses girls, I too lost 2 lbs….onwards and downwards.

I also love the summer fruits, also it’s nice to buy fresh British produce, I always try and buy British throughout the year but summer we are in more abundance.

fourormore Mon 20-Jun-22 10:25:17

Sacha you have really gone through the mill and I really hope you and your Mum feel much better soon. It's all very well people saying we must get back to normal but the virus is still laying people very low.
Our postman caught it a few weeks ago and was really poorly. He spends all his working hours in the open air and has an extremely vulnerable wife so took massive precautions throughout the whole pandemic. He was really poorly and if he can get it like that, it proves it's still very active.
Rest as much as you can and get well soon xxx

SachaMac Mon 20-Jun-22 09:06:40

Thank you all, I’m feeling quite unwell so staying in bed today, I’m a bit rundown anyway so that’s probably why it’s knocked me off my feet. We are led to believe it is just a mild illness but I really wouldn’t want to think I’d passed this on to anyone! I’ve been lucky I haven’t succumbed to it before I suppose.
The most annoying thing is the fact that that my mum was sent home from hospital with Covid & we were not informed. Patients are swabbed regularly by the Infection Control team yet the ward told us they weren’t aware of the + result when they discharged her!! Surely they should have checked the records.

Right, I’ll stop now because this could be a whole new thread/rant!!hmm

Have a great week everyone, enjoy your meals and stay safe.

kissngate Mon 20-Jun-22 08:58:18

SM _ hope you feel better soon you've had a bad week, chin up.
Whiff - tea bread looks delicious may try sometime.
1lb off again this week cut down a little on dairy products however I did have a little bread (with cheese and beetroot). Anyhows still managed to lose. Keep going losers.

VioletSky Mon 20-Jun-22 07:19:03

CocoPops Mon 20-Jun-22 05:35:26

VioletSky Sun 19-Jun-22 15:23:22

SachaMac Sun 19-Jun-22 15:16:15

Hi all, I’m pleased to say I have managed to shift 2lb this week. Its been a stressful week as I have had my 87 year old mum in hospital & have been up & down visiting, we had a nightmare in A&E with her queuing in the ambulance for hours just to get into hospital. Anyway to cut this saga short, she was sent home with Covid, all this on top of pneumonia & other quite serious health concerns. Its no surprise that I now have Covid, I’ve had a rough couple of days & have been extremely tired. The upside is I have virtually no appetite so I haven’t felt the need to attack the snacks, I’ve had a raging thirst though.

Have a good week everyone, the tea loaf looks delicious Whiff, I was going to make the Tiramisu this weekend but will leave till next weekend now in the hope I’m feeling better.

Whiff Sun 19-Jun-22 12:30:00

Don't know why I put fruit cake it's a tea bread?. This is today's one.

Whiff Sun 19-Jun-22 12:27:31

Four well done with the weight loss. I totally agree about weight changing daily. Yesterday I was a pound heavier glad I only count Sundays.

Dorset
Fatless fruit cake
Oven 160°c lined 1lb loaf tin

8oz dried fruit I used cherries, blueberries and cranberries this time.

Using the same size mug whatever you decide to use. I use a 350ml one.

1/2 mug of ordinary tea.

1/2 mug light brown sugar

Put fruit into a bowl with sugar and pour over the tea leave the tea bag in give and stir and let go cold. Once cold remove the tea bag. And put fruit mix in the fridge over night.

Add full mug of SR flour and 1 medium egg.

Stir well . Spoon into tin . Cook 50-60 mins until skewer comes out clean.

Cool on wire rack. Leave in a tin over night and cut the next day. It gets sticky when kept for a few days. Think it's the reaction between in the fruit and sugar. Keeps well for a week . If you can resist it. I can't.
