3 years 7 months ago on 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.

We now have a small band of ‘regulars’ called Pears who have joined our ranks and they have brought new ideas and support. Many thanks girls what would I do without you all. I am so grateful you have stayed so loyal and been such good friends to us all.

Do join us the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.

Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.

Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.

So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my way of life.

You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.

Our new mantra is - Eat Less for Life.

So Onward and Downward Pears ??

SachaMac funny enough since I have been on the heart tablet to regulate my heart and blood thinners I don't get the acid reflux I had daily. May get indigestion once a week and not daily as before.

Well put a pound on this week. Yesterday weight the same as last week but I only count what I weigh on a Sunday so a pound on. But ok with that . Just be more careful.

Spent 2 hours yesterday in the garden weeding. Glad to say my veggies are thriving .

Off out with my daughter and grandson's this afternoon to Crosby hall gardens. So no doubt find more plants I would like in my garden. ?.
Don't have house plants as I kill everyone but can keep the garden ones going.

Have a good week everyone. ??

It was delicious Whiff, all served on beautiful white linen tablecloths with fine china crockery & such a lovely relaxed atmosphere.
I think because we are trying hard not to eat these kind of things it comes as a bit of a shock to your stomach when you do indulge, hence the indigestion ?

Whiff Fri 10-Jun-22 14:24:02

I am jealous of your rich food and clotted cream SachaMac.

Forgot to say. If you have someone who can't have raw eggs. Mix in some low fat or fat free Greek yogurt until dropping consistency. Still tastes great.

SachaMac Fri 10-Jun-22 09:44:36

Thanks for sorting the spam post Whiff and for the recipe, I will definitely be giving it a try. I paid the price for all the rich food & clotted cream yesterday, indigestion & heartburn all night!! That will teach me!!

Whiff Fri 10-Jun-22 09:35:41

Thanks NanKate just reported another one . Hopefully they will take that thread down. It's hard enough losing weight with advertising unrealistic weight programmes which in some cases are dangerous to your health.

Recipe for Raspberry Tiramisu.

100 ml orange juice
But not needed if using frozen raspberries.
400g raspberries fresh or frozen . If using frozen put in colander or sieve to defrost over a bowl.
1 pkt sponge fingers

500g of low fat or no fat soft white cheese
3 eggs separated
3tbsp white sugar or low cal granular sugar
20ml low or no fat Greek style yogurt.

If using half quantities use 2 eggs separated but half rest of quantities.

Dip the biscuits few at a time and line dish or individual glasses or whatever you wish to serve it in. Fit them together snuggly. Pour over remaining liquid.

Scatter with half of the raspberries.

Beat soft cheese, egg yolks and sugar together.
Beat egg whites until.stiff.
Fold into cheese mixture.
Spread over sponges .
Spread over yogurt and scatter with rest of the raspberries.
Cover tightly with cling film and chill overnight in fridge.
Serves 12
When I use half the quantity I use a sq 16cm x 5cm deep dish.

Could use other summer fruits . But if using black or redcurrants may need to use bit more sugar.

Everyone one I have done this for says they prefer it to traditional one. High praise from my brother as he's coffee mad the stronger the better.

NanKate Fri 10-Jun-22 07:38:04

Thanks Whiff for reporting the inappropriate message. ?

Whiff Fri 10-Jun-22 06:57:28

I have reported the last post . As it's advertising and no place here we don't need or want it.

SachaMac I will post a low fat version of Tiramisu it's a raspberry one and delicious much nicer than with coffee which I can't have as it gives me heart palpitations.

Sounds lovely, I love Tiramisu, I wonder if it’s possible to make a healthy version.
I’ve been out for afternoon tea today!! Beautiful home made cakes & scones…… back on it tomorrow!!! smile

NanKate Thu 09-Jun-22 07:24:22

Hi folks. My WI held a pudding competition this week and everyone was given a paper dish and a spoon. We all got about 5 spoonfuls of delicious tiramisu, trifle etc. I’ve come to admit I joined in. As Frankie Howard would say ‘oh woe is me’. ?

Back on the Band Wagon.

Whiff Tue 07-Jun-22 18:35:44

SachaMac looks delicious all things I like to eat yum.

SachaMac Tue 07-Jun-22 18:05:59

Here’s my tea, Chick pea, butternut squash & apricot tagine with couscous and the roasted beetroot. Delicious & very filling & healthy smile

Whiff Tue 07-Jun-22 16:32:39

SachaMac my dad always boiled it for a couple of hours and then peeled them when cool. And sliced and pickled them.

I never liked pickled beetroot. When I brought beetroot always brought the vac pack one no vinegar and just cut it up and used it. I like it roasted best also it freezes well once cool. And can be either just eaten once defrosted or heated up .

SachaMac Tue 07-Jun-22 13:00:52

Thanks for the beetroot tip Whiff, sounds good, I will try that later. My mum always used to cook it in the pressure cooker but I don’t have one, they always terrified me with all the hissing smile

Whiff Mon 06-Jun-22 19:18:55

SachaMac I had beetroot in my last box .I cut the top and bottom off and used a vegetable peeler to take the peel off I didn't fancy eating the skin. I cut it into cubes . Put a piece of foil on a roasting tray with a piece of baking parchment half the size on to he bottom . Then the beetroot and drizzled with rapeseed oil and salt and pepper. Made it into a tight parcel and put it into the oven at 200°c for 25 mins. Then took it out opened up the parcel and put it back in the oven for 10 mins. It was delicious.

Aqua aerobics give a good workout but protects your limbs . Which would be good for you especially if you enjoyed last time.

Kissngate it's a blip. As you are exercising did you write down your measurements at the start of your eating less journey. As muscle weights more than fat. Some weeks I stayed the same or put on but lost inches. Mad I know. But exercise even gentle ones tightens up your muscles and builds your muscles up. I don't mean like Miss body builder of the year. My thighs have tighten up since exercising still flabby but my trousers are looser round my thighs and bum. They are not made from the sort of fabric that stretches. Have you looked at local churches we have our class in a church hall. I know other churches hired out there halls to sit fit classes they usually cost £5 for 45-60 mins.

SachaMac Mon 06-Jun-22 17:52:59

Hi all, I haven’t weighed in yet, I’m not expecting a loss but hopeful I haven’t put more on after my indulgences over the weekend. Such a shame about the weather but nothing we can do. I received my Odd Box on Saturday & I’m really pleased with it. There’s some nice beetroot in there, has anyone ever roasted beetroot & if so how long do you cook it for & do you chop it up or roast it whole. Just thought it might be a change.

Your exercise class sounds great Whiff, I’m toying with joining the gym but have neck & back issues and don’t want to trigger my sciatica. I do enjoy aqua aerobics though but stopped going during lockdown. Might try & get back into that again.

Shirleyw Mon 06-Jun-22 11:32:21

Your classes whiff sounds very good and very sociable.

That will soon come off kissngate, its been a celebratory weekend for most.

kissngate Mon 06-Jun-22 10:30:02

Morning Apples n Pears. Hope everyone enjoyed the celebrations I certainly did. Brought a tear to my eye when HM appeared on the balcony yday. Anyway put on 1.8 this week which is disappointing. Expected not to lose as I've been doing online exercises daily. Did enjoy neighbours garden party sandwiches, trifle and cake plus wine but thought extra exercise would balance it out. Hey ho need another rethink might try missing lunch out. Whiff your exercise classes sound perfect for me but our LA only does Heart healthy classes for those who've had a heart attack or other similar problems. Good luck losers hope everyone gets back on track.

Whiff Mon 06-Jun-22 07:36:14

Four that's a small blip. Glad you enjoyed the Julibee weekend. Hopefully all the good feelings it generated lasts . It was good to celebrate something that brought the whole country together.

Shirley just a blip as well. Your trifle sounds lovely. Haven't had trifle for years. Glad you also enjoyed the Julibee celebrations. It was 19.5 all day in my living room yesterday. But like you don't want to put the heating on so snuggled under a thick fleecy throw. Still got my 15tog all seasons duvet on my bed. Yesterday I was wearing 4 layers ,still got my thick tights on under my trousers. Can't wear socks as they hurt my legs.

I started going to exercise class in 2018 once I got down to 15.5st. It was went I lived in my old house . It was community fit club run by Age UK. 12 weeks free. Talked about nutrition and we had a quiz which was fun. Then exercise for 45-60 mins. I didn't think I would like it but wanted to get fit. But found I loved exercise. The instructor was brilliant because of my stability she tailored the exercises so I did the same as everyone else but held on to the back of a chair for the legs ones and sat down for the arm ones and sat down to do the ones the others did on the floor. When I moved I joined at sit fit group held over a cafe. We all sat down for arm and leg exercises but also held on to the back of the chair for some leg ones . It was £5 for 45mins. Then we used to have a drink and natter in the cafe.

Covid closed it . I missed it and lost the will to do them at home. I googled sit fit classes last year and found my local council did Active ageing classes. Had my assessment in May last year as they run different programmes . So first Wednesday in June last year started my Active ageing sit fit class. For about 3 months there was only 2 of us. It was for 12 weeks free by October our numbers had increased and by Christmas there where 11 of us. Always with 2 instructors. So exercises sitting down and holding onto the back of the chair and walking ones as well. Used my stick for those. The core aims are strength and stability.

In January me and 3 others where moved to a maintenance class which is full on . We only sit down for warm down exercises. The rest is stood up and after the warm up exercises it's non stop. I love it we laugh and encourage eachother. Haven't used my stick in this new class and don't always need to hold on to the chair. If I do I just rest one hand in it. One of our number doesn't use her stick now when out walking . There are now 6 in the class. It costs £2.50 for 45-60 exercise plus hot drink and biscuits and chat after for half hour.

I was told it was 12 weeks free then you paid but wasn't told after 12 weeks you are supposed to leave . So I fought that rule as it has given me so much. Luckily I have been allowed to stay until the class fills up . Here's hoping it doesn't. But some in the first class won't come into our class as they aren't physically able . I know how much the class has helped me . I can walk further than I did and I know my body has firmed up. My trousers are baggy round my bum. Still got all my wobbly bits as decades of being obese means my skin won't tighten. But I can live with that. Even my GP, neurologist and cardiologist has noticed a difference in me. Because of the tablets and exercise my cardiologist has discharged me into the care of my GP.

In my class we all have multiple health problems but have all felt the benefit of the exercises and it's lovely to have chat we all have different live stories . Healthy body healthy mind.

My husband would laugh his socks off me liking exercise. If I can do it anyone can. ?️????

Shirleyw Mon 06-Jun-22 06:20:54

Hope your not so achy today whiff, sometimes we just don’t know when to stop. Your very committed to your exercise classes, how long have you been going?

I’m pleased that I only put on half a pound, considering we had all the family staying , I made the winning platinum trifle, course I couldn’t resist a decent bowl full of that ? and also tucked into other calorific food, still, least all the jollities are over now, back to note book and pen jotting down the calories again.
Hope you all had a good jubilee weekend. I enjoyed the service at st.Paul’s, we listened to the music from buck palace on radio 2, … weather is just so unlike June yesterday and today, I felt like popping the heating on last evening but didnt seem right putting it on in June

fourormore Sun 05-Jun-22 19:22:53

What an energetic time you've had Whiff - I'm not surprised you overdid it but like you say - limit yourself a bit next week. Glad the little one is ok.
I have been the opposite and been glued to the Jubilee TV coverage, hence I'm late posting today! I loved the service etc and this afternoon's Pageant was amazing and the entire event was so uplifting. It was great to have something to celebrate at last!
I put on 0.8lb this week which was expected but hopefully I will move more this week? Having some days out this week though so not holding out too much hope gringringrin

Morning pears . Hope you have all been enjoying the bank holiday. Well my weight has stayed the same which is fine. Over did it in exercise class Wednesday. Didn't realise I had until I stood up after after tea and biscuits. My knees and front of my thighs where killing me. It's my own fault. We did a lot of lunges. When the others get on the floor I do lunges and get down on my right knee on a yoga block and get back up. Can't get down on my left so go as far as I can. Stupid me did it 7 times each leg. This week 3 will be my limit.

My grandson had an accident at nursery and cut his chin open. Luckily I had only been back 10 mins when my daughter phoned. So while waiting for her to bring her youngest got toys out and had my lunch.

They where quickly triaged but due to urgent cases and a lot of ambulances arriving. It was just after 7.30 when they came to pick the little one up. Had him for about 4.5 hours . He had his dinner luckily it was Quorn mince lasagna I had made and potions where in the fridge. But always got things I could make in the freezer and stock cupboard for veggie meals. He eat some but wolfed down nannies yog fruit as usual. He feeds himself . But he's easy to clean up .

His brother had to have his chin glued . The only thing that really bothered him was he couldn't go swimming yesterday as he has to keep it dry for a week.

Because the weather was lovely Thursday idiot here went into the garden for couple of hours. My knees didn't hurt but the front of my thighs did. Did that stop me of course not. And only made my thighs hurt more. Honestly I am my own worse enemy. But if I let pain stop me doing things I would never do anything. There are times it's so bad it does stop me and drives me . I suppose a lot of you are the same. And hate it when your body stops you doing what you want.

Anyway have a good week everyone. ?

Whiff Fri 03-Jun-22 06:54:18

cornernan maintaining is an achievement. Stress is the worst thing that can put pay to watching what we eat. That's why I can't have my non stop foods in my home. As there is no way I wouldn't eat the lot in one go.

Today is a new day. Be kind to yourself . ?

Whiff Fri 03-Jun-22 06:50:39

Four well said. We send enough money all over the world. What has been spent on the Jubilee is a drop in the ocean . Look at all the money the Jubilee has generated. Glad the weather was nice for trooping of the colour. The Queen looked lovely but do think she should have had a seat high enough to been seen as it was a long time for her to stand up.

See she has had to cancel going to the service today. Hopefully she is resting . Love the fact she didn't go to the state opening of parliament but did go to the races. And why not at her age she's earned that right. Seeing her in the golf buggy at the Chelsea flower show reminded me of her mom in hers.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone .

cornergran Thu 02-Jun-22 19:47:06

Hello everyone. Static this week which considering what I’ve been tempted by is nothing short of a miracle. Some worrying stuff going on which always dents willpower. I’m not stressing about it, life gets in the way and will get back on track after tomorrow when we’ve a family BBQ. Enjoy your weekends everyone. Time to celebrate for sure.
