Something sweet

I would like to lose 1/2 stone.

I have worked out that it is better for me to have something sweet after a main meal. However small.
But I have yet to find my ideal.

What do you have please?
Can be homemade or shop bought.
I have some fruit earlier in the day. For some reason I dont like fruit later.

2 squares of dark, over 70% chocolate

Not eccentric at all.
Good idea.

I refer back to this thread from time to time, and use some ideas on it.

This is going to sound eccentric, but I occasionally have a bowl of porridge in the evening, with yogurt and berries, together with some skinny topping, the golden syrup one is nice. I top with a little high fibre cereal for crunchiness and this both fills a gap and provides the sweetness. The skinny topping is calorie free.

What is sugar-free maple syrup please?

I find that if you cut your carbs down as far as you can, throughout the day (i.e. no bread, pasta, potatoes etc) you can easily enjoy, for example, a natural yoghurt with some sugar-free maple syrup, or some home-made panacotta (using sugar substitute), or a couple of squares of 85% dark chocolate - guilt fee!

My favorite late day or afternoon snack is a sliced apple dipped in (store bought) caramel apple dip, then dipped in unsalted (or lightly salted) peanuts.

It’s sweet and crunchy, chewy and fruity. Delicious!

When my partner and I were doing slimming world, we had a curly wurly, 6 syns and enough to sort the sweet/chocolate craving, this is why it's allowed. Highlight of our food day!🤣

I’m trying to lose half a stone also. These last few pounds are so stubborn so I’m trying to give up sugar altogether, for a while anyway. Someone gave me a good tip recently. Pour a packet of sugar free jelly crystals into a bowl and roll some washed grapes into them and coat them with the jelly crystals then put them in an ice cube tray and freeze. Once frozen they are delicious and just like sucking on a boiled sweet. Once I’ve sucked on and eaten a few my sweet cravings completely disappear 😊

I have started trying some of the lovely ideas on this thread.
I may need to use some that may limit my sweet tooth.
Dates - warning!
Bought a pack of them. Lovely. So lovely, I have started eating them like sweets! Had to stop myself.

Take a look at a company called FLOWER & WHITE . They have lovely treats, all under 100 calories plus free p&p on all orders

It's a bit cold at the moment , but I partially freeze a yoghurt and enjoy eating it slowly .

I make sugar free jelly and put fresh fruit in chopped. ie raspberries or strawberries. Satifys my sugar cravings

This time of year my favourite is a mini Xmas pud made of Belgian chocolate and crushed biscuits from Booths (no self service tills). They come in boxes of 12 and last me nearly a fortnight, unless the DGC call round. They are about 130 calories, worse than some suggestions, but one is sufficient.

I make my own ice cream with plant based cream, oat milk, some honey and vanilla. Delicious and lovely and light after a meal.

I find this post very odd.

If you seriously want to loose weight, you should cut sweet things right out of your food intake, however hard that seems.

OMG This reminds me of what my Mum used to say “have what you fancy, you’re a long time dead.” She lived to 97.

Trying to lose some weight, but it is so hard this time of the year. I agree with Hilarybee the small thin plain chocolate bars from Aldi are great, they are just enough to satisfy your sweet tooth. They now do a sea salt flavour which is delicious, much nicer than it sounds.

Candelle Sun 03-Dec-23 12:27:22

I also enjoy something sweet at the end of a meal and have to watch calories as the drugs I take pile weight on if not careful.

We buy a 'tart', roughly once a week (either chocolate and salted caramel, cherry and almond or lemon) and cut it into 16ths. Well, Mr C does as my portion control would be rather more, er, generous.

Anyway, one tart lasts us for (obviously!) eight days and we have it with a little varying fruit (yes, I know, calories and sugar in fruit = bad but I find this does take away a later urge for the jaws to really dig in).

These may be more calories than some of the really excellent ideas here but they do make us feel as if we have had a 'pudding'.

Good luck with your diet!

I like my dates with peanut butter.

pen50 Sun 03-Dec-23 12:12:54

My suggestion is Activia rhubarb yoghourt (other flavours available) which I find delicious and also seems to help my dodgy digestive system.

Damdee Sun 03-Dec-23 12:07:35

Marshmallows are low calories and sweet - just have one or two.

Hilarybee Sun 03-Dec-23 11:42:39

85% dark chocolate. Very good for you too. Aldi do individual bars in a pack of five

Nicolenet Sun 03-Dec-23 11:16:14

How about having nothing but apples pears or berries until you lose your weight. Think yourself slim. After 2 weeks you will not think about puds any longer. It will then be Xmas and you can binge end put it all back on again!

mrswoo Wed 29-Nov-23 17:26:59

A Cadburys Freddo bar is 95 calories and you can make one last quite a while even though they are fairly small at 18g.
Keep them in the freezer and suck them like a mini chocolate lolly!
For anyone on Slimming World (as I am meant to be but a bit lapsed at the moment) they are 5 syns.

Lyn57 Wed 29-Nov-23 12:43:42

A meringue nest is only 50 calories and sweet, nice with a cup of tea. You could add defrosted frozen berries but they are nice as a sweet snack on their own.
