You can't beat real butter for taste.

I use both- butter on toast, spread on sandwiches.

Butter every time

After losing the amount of weight I wanted to, I found I did not miss any spread on sandwiches and now simply have butter when no fillings or toppings are involved.

There is no such thing as responsibly sourced Palm Oil. See Google.

I use a small amount of sunflower oil for cooking , or browning things, but stick to the butter when it comes to sandwiches, bread etc. I dont use a lot so prefer enjoying the butter on occasions.

We only have butter as treat, we have Flora light margarine on toast, bread rolls and brioche.

Another vote for real butter and no substitutes here.

I am a butter snob!
If no butter then I'd go without.
Even flies don't land on spread!

Madgran77 Mon 11-Mar-24 17:53:20

Flora Plant butter. Excellent

As kids we used to shake the top of the milk in a little bottle till a little round blob of butter appeared

I love butter!!...I like to see teeth marks when I bite in to itgrin. Try not to eat too much tho, it's more of a treat like cake or chocolate!

Tandsmør is the Danish word for teeth marks in butter.

One of my jobs this afternoon is to make a batch of butter, extra thick double cream and salt……there is nothing nicer.

I try not to eat any processed food.

So butter and olive oil for me.

There is no alternative to butter that is healthy or worth eating. The best butter you can buy is butter that comes from grass fed cows. If you check the label there is nothing in it at all, just pure unadulterated butter and I would never use anything else. When I was a child in the 40's, our mum and I went to the local store and watched them pat pure butter between two wooden boards and wrap it in brown paper, we lived on butter. I am 81 years old and have no aches and pains or illnesses and can still run up and down the stairs. If you need more proof read this link.

Spreads are not butter no matter what they are called they have minimal amounts of butter supplemented by oils. They are expensive and I prefer to have a small amount of real butter.

Thank you All I am sticking with butter in moderation 👍

Quite right. It’ not like we eat a pack of butter a day is it?

Only the real thing for us now. Some of those horrible spreads are just one molecule away from plastic. 🤮🤮

Quite right. Awful stuff.

Absolutely agree, real food not UPF.

BlueBelle Sun 03-Mar-24 04:47:23

Been through them all but the alternatives all are so highly processed I returned to real butter a few years back

Gwyllt Sat 02-Mar-24 23:38:34

As lactose is the usual culprit in dairy intolerance There is very little lactose in butter and tends to be tolerated

flappergirl Sat 02-Mar-24 22:34:32

Real butter, in moderation like anything else, is the healthiest option unless you have a dairy allergy. Likewise whole milk.

Gwyllt Sat 02-Mar-24 21:37:57

Another fan of butter
Interesting that many are rejecting spreads that are ultra processed food
If the question had been asked 10 years ago I imagine the answer might have been different
