Quite right. It’ not like we eat a pack of butter a day is it?

Spreads are not butter no matter what they are called they have minimal amounts of butter supplemented by oils. They are expensive and I prefer to have a small amount of real butter.

There is no alternative to butter that is healthy or worth eating. The best butter you can buy is butter that comes from grass fed cows. If you check the label there is nothing in it at all, just pure unadulterated butter and I would never use anything else. When I was a child in the 40's, our mum and I went to the local store and watched them pat pure butter between two wooden boards and wrap it in brown paper, we lived on butter. I am 81 years old and have no aches and pains or illnesses and can still run up and down the stairs. If you need more proof read this link.

I love butter!!...I like to see teeth marks when I bite in to itgrin. Try not to eat too much tho, it's more of a treat like cake or chocolate!

Tandsmør is the Danish word for teeth marks in butter.

One of my jobs this afternoon is to make a batch of butter, extra thick double cream and salt……there is nothing nicer.

As kids we used to shake the top of the milk in a little bottle till a little round blob of butter appeared

I am a butter snob!
If no butter then I'd go without.
Even flies don't land on spread!

Another vote for real butter and no substitutes here.

Yongy Wed 29-May-24 14:10:54

We only have butter as treat, we have Flora light margarine on toast, bread rolls and brioche.

I use a small amount of sunflower oil for cooking , or browning things, but stick to the butter when it comes to sandwiches, bread etc. I dont use a lot so prefer enjoying the butter on occasions.

There is no such thing as responsibly sourced Palm Oil. See Google.

After losing the amount of weight I wanted to, I found I did not miss any spread on sandwiches and now simply have butter when no fillings or toppings are involved.

LOUISA1523 Wed 29-May-24 20:00:59

Butter every time

keepingquiet Wed 29-May-24 20:07:45

I use both- butter on toast, spread on sandwiches.

Tiley Wed 29-May-24 20:15:34

You can't beat real butter for taste.

Norah Wed 29-May-24 20:21:31

Italian olive oil.

FoghornLeghorn Wed 29-May-24 22:46:59

M&S Softer Spreading Butter is 100% butter. Nothing added. You can’t use substitute spreads on toast as their water content makes the bread soggy.

Will have to give that a try
Thanks.

Only the real thing for us now. Some of those horrible spreads are just one molecule away from plastic. 🤮🤮

We use butter for spreading.
We use olive oil or rapeseedoil for cooking.
I do use Flora for baking.
I agree that these artificial spreads contain many disgusting ingredients.

LottieLouise Thu 30-May-24 09:13:37

In my opinion there is and never will be an alternative to butter. Butter is good for you especially butter made with milk from grass fed cows. There is nothing like real butter on a slice of toast with jam.

Maggiemaybe Thu 30-May-24 09:27:49

Yes, proper butter here as well. We keep it out of the fridge so it’s usually spreadable. Occasionally olive oil for dipping (we’ve a lovely lavender infused one at the moment), but usually rapeseed oil for cooking.
