Good to have you back Allsorts.
I want to make a suggestion. I used to set a date ahead to start my diet and in the days leading up to that date I used to scoff anything I wanted. It took me some time to realise I was self sabotaging my quest to lose weight.
What I do now is start my Eating Less for Life regime immediately, with occasional days off to eat what I fancy.
If this method doesn’t appeal to you just ignore it. However it really has helped me get a control over food, not the food controlling me.

Our mantra is - EAT LESS FOR LIFE.
Hi everyone, glad you're all on track despite holidays, afraid I have once again put on what I lost.. I am a lost cause. Birthdays a plenty, inactivity and that's all it takes.
Maybe, your fillings must cost so much buying all those things. The dentist told me nuts are to ge avoided, she did more fillings because of them, they are my downfall as well as biscuits.. I don't buy chocolate but once they are in the house I eat the lot.
I really want a mini incinerator, be much better than my temperamental shredder.
I will start my weigh in next Sunday as I have things lined up this week where I know I will be tempted. Plus a mirror that is full length in spare room.
It was really soft toast and I drank liquid with it, too, to soften it even more. Thank goodness I still have a NHS dentist who saw me today. He replaced my filling ( during which we had a nice conversation about the merits of early Pink Floyd compared to the later Dave Gilmour years). I asked him if I could have it crowned but he said it was too small a tooth to crown. When I asked him about what I should eat he said eat whatever you like as long as it isn’t pork scratchings (can’t remember the last time I had a pork scratching but I remember another dentist I had telling me that the main reason she found for replacing fillings was when someone had ate crispy bacon). The best bit is I lose fillings on such a regular basis that they’re usually still under guarantee which was the case today. So I spent the money I thought I was going to spend on the tooth on a new top, a nice ceramic container for my spider plant, a cyclamen to replace the winter pansy that is on it’s last legs and a mini incinerator so I can burn a few bits and bobs without smoking out the whole street using the big one. On top of that I did some of my leg exercises in the waiting room to save having to do them later (not the ones where I have to lie on the floor) and I found walking down the high street much easier than the last time I did it thanks to seeing my new physio.
I love both toast and rice cakes 😋
The think your teeth are telling you no rice cakes or toast MayBee . Having new filling is going to cost a lot more than bread or rice cakes.
Won’t be eating much for a while. Just lost another filling. Was only eating a piece of toast. Serves me right for giving in and having some bread. Mind you I have been eating rice cakes and have lost fillings because of rice cakes in the past.
When I feel hunger pangs I have a small glass of fruit Kefir. It really lines the stomach quickly and it’s good for you. 👍
MayBee small movements won't use up many calories but they will help with your joints and muscles . The slower the exercise the more you have to control it and therefore it's making you work harder . Eg sit on a chair and just lift your leg straight out front up and down normal speed . Now try counting doing it counting to 5 to get it up and 5 down . You will feel the difference you have to work harder to control it. So it's doing you more good.
Slow small controlled movements are harder to do than fast ones . Also when you sit down do it slowly that's also exercise and standing do it slowly you will notice it in your thighs .
Note to self don't buy the rice cakes again . Then there is no temptation 😁🤸
I stupidly just ate quite a few salt and vinegar rice cakes. It’s because I wasn’t actually hungry at teatime so didn’t make the omelette that I’d planned to have. Then hunger caught up with me at 9. Won’t make that mistake again.
Glad Maybee and Whiff we are all supporting each other. As you say Whiff maintaining weight is also a bonus.
I’m asleep for most of the fasting ( I sleep a lot!). The main difference is that I drink hot water instead of tea and coffee in the evening and ignore the urge to snack when I’m watching tv! I was amazed at how many inches I lost during lockdowns because I wasn’t eating between meals. All of my weight goes onto my thighs which can go up and down by several inches in a short space of time. When Winnie wakes me up far too early for her breakfast I have a mug of hot water and go back to sleep listening to my relaxation tape. The knee exercises are more like Callanetics in that they’re only small movements and probably don’t use up any calories.
NanKate staying the same is just as hard as losing weight. Counting calories is the only way that works for me .
MayBee be careful fasting especially as you are exercising as well. You need a balanced diet . Otherwise lactic acid can build up in your joints and muscles and it hurts like hell. Only happened to me once I made sure it hasn't since .
Glad you are finding the exercises less painful. I even do mine on holiday and I walk more . Well what I call walking 🤣
Lost half a pound this week better than putting on.
Out for lunch tomorrow so will be only yogurt for dinner . Need to get my weight loss mojo back . My hospital stay and what happened to me sort of re set my control over my eating and I want it back .
I'm finding that doing an evening fast for as long as I can hold out has really stabilised my weight and I've lost inches, too. Also cutting out bread as much as possible. The exercises given to me by the physio seem to be helping. They really hurt at first but now they don't and I seem to be walking better. Going to try to go on a walk with my dog walking group on Saturday to see if I can manage better. Don't want to raise my hopes too much though.
Although I have been keeping a steady weight I know I should restart calorie counting as I am not where I want to be weight wise. This is a lifelong struggle but worthwhile.
Eating Less for Life is the only way for me.
Reported (sigh)
I’m having a physio session with her tomorrow Whiff. My GP has given me a hospital referral which also includes physio but the hospital is such a long way to travel to. And I bet the appointment will be made for when I’m away in September. Please send me those exercises; I keep looking up exercises to do but there are so many to choose from I’m a bit overwhelmed. My GP said my BP was a bit high which was a first for me but I was a bit stressed when I took it; I don’t go out much and even a trip to the doctors makes me nervous. When I’m awake I do potter round the house most of the time so I am walking up and down the stairs etc but it still isn’t anything like the exercise I used to get.
Finally feeling like my usual self . Not been myself since January and my week in hospital. Plus BP tablets caused me to have a kidney infection . Then antibiotics for cellulitis on my toe . Who knew you could get cellulitis on your toe only had it on my legs before. Because of the sort of antibiotic could take my statin last day of taking them had the paramedics here for 2 hours . 111 sent them . My BP went very low and heart beat 108 . It was funny they had to put more leads on me to get readings twice . Good job they had plenty . And sent my HPX into overdrive.
Oops think I had written this before but can't go back a page or risk losing this . 🤦🤦🤦🤷🤷🤷.
Better not tell you what happened at Doncaster incase I have already told you .
Anyway lost 2.5 pounds this week . But really miss the ice cream 😋.
Mo did the chair pilates woman get back to you ? If not I can send you some sit down exercises to do at home via email . You do them at your own pace and gently.
Sit fit this afternoon. But no move it or lose it until September as our instructor has gone to Canada. She runs 7 classes her job . I will go back to them but don't know how many others will after a gap of 5 weeks . Our sit fit instructor only goes away for a week couple of times a year even though it's not her main job.
But will do a hour exercise tomorrow after having my eye test. As you all know my life runs because of routine and planning in advance.
Hope all pears and other fruits have a good week . 🤸
I’m glad whiff we both enjoyed our ice cream on hols. I didn’t weigh myself when I got back last Friday but have today and I am the same as I was before my hols, so I’m pleased about that. However I have noticed that I have been feeling hungry again late afternoon. I have resisted food but upped my drinking which has helped.
Losing weight isn’t easy, however with support from all the Pears and Apples it is doable.
I've found a recommended physiotherapist who also does a chair pilates class. Trouble is she's not answering her phone or emails [maybe she's on holiday]. What I do food wise these days is just think of what I really fancy eating and then have it for my main meal; I find that mentally satisfying. and it means I don't get cravings for certain food. I have stopped treating myself to a packet of crisps each day, though, as I was too tempted to have another packet and then another... I've been on a diet for so long I think I see everything in terms of their calorific values [could probably go on Mastermind and answer questions on it!].
MayBee it's good you are staying the same . If your body doesn't take in enough calories for it to work it holds on to fat . I know counting calories is a faff but it's the only way I can do it . Have you tried counting the calories you take each day . It can't be below 1,000. Those who only take in 800 a day yes they lose weight but then your body thinks you are starving and protects itself .
The book both NanKate and I have shows portion sizes as well as cals , protein, carbs, fat, sat fat and fibre.
I know your knees hurt but there are non load bearing exercises you can do and do them seated.
I was wondering how everyone was doing. I’m still sticking to my nighttime fast and although I’m not losing weight I’m not putting it on either. I’m having to be careful because I’m still not getting much exercise because of my knee. I’ve really got a taste for mugs of hot water; cups of tea and coffee were my downfall when it came to fasting. I’ve substituted rice cakes for bread because bread bloats me.
NanKate had double scoops of ice cream everyday farm made😋😋😋😋😋. My brother cooked delicious dinners and puds. Made me porridge every morning with thick set honey from friends bees hives. Cafes with delicious cakes.
So not surprised I put on 3lb but by today's weight lost them already but Sunday is my official weight day.
Glad you had a good time . We had rain a couple of times did go out but just happy to be with them . My sister in law did her needle felting and me my cross stitch. Brought one of her works . Building up a stock
for Christmas fair. But I pay her what it's work not what she asks for . She under charges . People should realise her makes can take from few days to a month .
That's the hoop I brought had the frame and just squished a bit but doesn't take away from the beauty of it .
Shirley well done staying the same .
Ooh, a drive through ice shop, that sounds good whiff, have a nice break with your brother.
Stayed the same and that.s after a weekend in Heacham.
Love the new forest nankate, glad you had a good time, weather was good too, this weekend wouldn’t have been so good.
