Well folks I started calorie counting on 11 October and this week have managed to lose one stone! I have only been losing about half a pound a week and my very slow progress I believe is because I have an underactive thyroid. I’m still classed as overweight so have a way to go.

Yes Whiff I can now get into my purple velour trousers which is pleasing. However the jacket I can now do up is no longer to my liking. Isn’t that odd?

Once a week I have had an M and S Count on us meal which is low in calories and I have added veg. I can recommend them especially when they reduce the price.

Still counting calories and using my excellent diet book that both Whiff and I are both using.

Congratulations NanKate. A stone is an achievement, well done.
You deserve a new jacket, treat yourself! 😇

silverlining You asked about our kilometre zero olive oil here, north of Rome. Well, apart from the plantations (is that the right word?) of olive trees all around, most people have a few trees in their gardens. Around November, they all shake the olives off the trees and take them to our local olive mill -it's a kind of cooperative. The olives get passed through various machines (and very noisy they are!): first with twigs and leaves attached, then various others and finally you see the actual yellow/green liquid pouring down into a vat. You take along your own litre bottles or five litre cans and have them filled directly. We all take what we will need for a year. Take it home and store in a cool dry place, decanting into smaller bottles as needs. As we are only two of us now, 12 litres is usually enough. I rarely use anything else for cooking.

As I said before, it's not Tuscan or southern oil but it couldn't be more local!

Moan! Put on one pound almost overnight! Blame the English novel I' reading where everyone keeps eating hot buttered toast. Gave me the urge and yesterday I had four slices, dripping with butter. Today I pay the price sad

silverlining48 Sat 29-Mar-25 15:24:14

Oooo four slices, dripping butter… there is a price to pay.
One slice, scrape of butter …. Less of a price to pay.

Thanks for the info on your local oil. It costs so much here that I use ‘one spray’ in cooking, which is just a spray bottle with olive or other oil in, but using just one spray , sometimes 2 or 3, reduces the amount used.

silverlining48 Sat 29-Mar-25 15:25:01

By the way…You can shift that pound easily enough…smile

NanKate Sat 29-Mar-25 15:27:59

Thanks silverlining I have to admit it took me two and a half years to force myself to face reality and start counting calories. It’s the only way for me to lose weight, nothing else has worked.

Shirleyw Tue 01-Apr-25 20:57:37

Well done nankate , that’s a great loss. I like the. M&S count on us meals too, I have them occasionally, a ready meal comes in handy at times.

The weather is lovely atm, long may it continue. Gives incentive to get out an do stuff in the garden. Pulled a muscle on my side after lifting a couple compost bags awkwardly.

Have a good week all.

Whiff Thu 03-Apr-25 06:40:35

Brilliant NanKate at your weight lost. I love the book and it helped me make the right choice for my treat my daughter and grandsons took me out for on Saturday to a garden centre. Where I live there are a lot local . I had a scone and only one butter no jam and tea. Normally I would have had hot chocolate and high cal cake.
My scales showed a rise of 2.75 lbs on Sunday my official weight in day ..Monday it had gone. But I keep ploughing on..

Frugola fresh olive oil how lovely . At least you know where it's from and the freshness of it .. I use very little oil but use British rape seed oil.

My daughter told me about McCain's frozen jacket potato so brought a 4 pack . The potato is 160 cals and 5 mins in the microwave . Will little oil olive spread it was delicious and the skin was soft so could eat it.
Had a disaster with my soup on Tuesday I dropped my electric peppermill into it as the outside casing fell off I hadn't checked it was tight . As the batteries went into the boiling soup decided it wouldn't be safe to eat. It's my birthday end of the month so asked my daughter for new peppermill for my birthday. She came yesterday to change my bed as they are busy the weekend and brought me new salt and pepper mills but these have rubber coating so I can grip easier. But the last couple of weeks broken pasta dish, enamel baking dish some of the enamel came off and dented it ,oval dish and the handle of one of my mugs broke as I went to drink a very hot cup of tea . I was sitting down . Never stripped off so quickly in my life it soaked into my bra and knickers luckily had layers on so not scalded. Forgot my window cleaner was here painting my fences but he said he didn't see me stripping off. Poor guy would have been scared for life if he had 😱🤣.

Frugola hot buttered toast I loved but thanks to being in blood thinners can't eat it as it gives me blood blisters in my mouth. I used to love sour dough bread toasted dripping with spread and honey . 😋 The pound is a blip.

Shirley a pulled muscle is very painful . But we think we are super woman and can do anything . Unfortunately we pay the price and pulled muscles and soft tissue damage takes time to heal . Hope you feel better soon.

Already said I am going to Llandudno in May, now going to see my brother and sister in law in July they have a 2 bed bungalow and my adopted dad lives with them . It's my sister in law's dad but adopted him as my second dad funny enough he has the same dad as ours was. They have a 5 berth caravan for visitors but I am staying at a local Travelodge in the next village. September book my room at Premier inn in Harrogate. Going to see a classical concert in July at the Phil and booked tickets for February to see the Fishermen's friends . I need to sit downstairs and an aisle seat with no one behind me all due to my HPX.

We did circuit training at sit fit this week which is always fun and we had tea afterwards .Which was lovely had a good natter. Move it or lose it Tuesday and we always have a Braun teaser exercises . I was with my usual partner and used beans filled with marbles . We had 2 and had to throw them to eachother but catch one in each hand . We dropped our marbles a few times before getting the hang of it . Not as easy as it sounds. My hands tremble all the time and my partner has arthritic hands but we exercised our laughter muscles again . Bean bags where flying everywhere.

Have a good week everyone. 🌹🤸

Forgot to say hello to Silverlining 👋

NanKate Thu 03-Apr-25 09:37:57

Thanks for all your interesting news Whiff. 👍

silverlining48 Thu 03-Apr-25 14:09:40

Hello whiff, you are very busy, good for you.

I will be weighed later today. They have brought the m e ratings earlier fr om tiday so 5.30 now not 7 pm as it was.
It meant eating dinner so late.
I had hoped to lose 2 today for my first half stone, which would have been 6 weeks, but despite being super careful with every mouthful I have probably stayed the same.
Losing weight is so bloomin hard, I cook everything fresh , from scratch, eat sensibly, portion control, no desserts, walk sometimes for many miles, ( I know that doesn’t make much difference diet wise but I like walking ) but why is it all such a struggle. ?

I have very slim friends who are so careless about what they eat yet remain slim, while I consider everything before I put it in my mouth. sad

silverlining48 Thu 03-Apr-25 14:12:22

Meetings not ‘me e ratings….’

Sillymoo Thu 03-Apr-25 16:16:50

Glad you like your new meeting time silverlining Think I forgot to post that I lost a pound at WI on Tuesday which takes me to half under my SW target bubble which is 2 1/2 over target. Gave gone a bit mad on sausages since then for some reason!

Might try those jacket potatoes whiff We are going on a steam train to York so planning a meal in slow cooker for our return and the spuds would be just right!

Shirleyw Thu 03-Apr-25 21:13:14

Good job you didn’t scald yourself whiff. Take it steady.
I too might get those jacket spuds, be handy to have in the freezer….infact I shall add it now to my delivery now😂.

Well done losing sillymoo.

CocoPops Fri 04-Apr-25 03:44:35

I ought to have weighed in on Sunday but I did not dare. I love jazz and my local bar had a good band on Saturday. There's no entry fee so patrons are expected to buy something to eat. I scoffed a delicous burger with a bun and fries and enjoyed myself!

Whiff Tue 08-Apr-25 05:41:24

Losing weight and keeping it off is hard. But no one here gives up and that's the main thing . Well done on all the losses.. My weight stayed the same this week but that's ok.

Yesterday went to Paws cuppa and chat . Lots of lovely cakes on the tables had 2 squares carrot cake which was delicious. But the book had cals for the cake so that made it easy to add onto my daily total. There were 23 adults and 4 children. It was nice to meet new people and it's craft group next week.

I had done all my usual exercises plus my pedalling before going out . Was out early and only got home half hour before sit fit. Had already walked just over 7,000 steps and put plenty of welly into sit fit to work off the cake. No wonder I fell asleep watching TV. Still tried now so probably have a nap later as I have move it or lose this morning.
Still tired now hence I don't think my ramble is making sense .

Anyway have a good week everyone supposed to be sunny all week .

silverlining48 Tue 08-Apr-25 09:44:14

You make me tired just reading what you do Whiff. Well done.
I lost half last week which was a relief as u thought I may have gained or at best ms7 gained. I am close to my first half stone so fingers crossed for Thursday.

silverlining48 Tue 08-Apr-25 09:44:55

Maintained … typos are so annoying

CocoPops Tue 08-Apr-25 23:41:57

138.8lbs this week which is the same as 2 weeks ago. That's OK. Enjoy the UK sunshine ladies. Here in Western Canada it's April showers all week.

Shinamae Wed 09-Apr-25 00:03:01

An apple I was, an Apple I am and an apple. I will always be unfortunately. 🤷‍♀️😵‍💫

Whiff Thu 10-Apr-25 06:27:48

Silverlining half pound soon mounts up. I am happy if I only loose quarter of a pound.
That's why I watch TV on catch up as you can guarantee I nod off watching.Tuesday had move it or lose it class our instructor is going away to visit her daughter's for August so no classes . But there is a book with all the exercises so have brought one . That way I will still do my hour of a Tuesday. My life has to run on routine it's how I have always been it's only since my diagnosis and joining my HPX group I understand why . My life makes sense and know I am not weird well may still be a bit but have an excuse now it's my HPX 😂.

CocoPops we have had sunshine all week but here in the north west it's still chilly when the wind blows. Monday wish I had my gloves on as my hands where frozen but the time I got to the bus stop.

Shinamae I will always be a pear . But at least a smaller one than I was . More a conference pear now than one of the golden ones . 😂.

Sillymoo Thu 10-Apr-25 08:11:44

Half pounds do mount up, and I have put ON half this week. Think I went overboard with last week's loss taking me in to target zone!

Frugola Thu 10-Apr-25 15:10:10

If being an apple or a pear refers to our back view I am certainly an apple. BUT the more I diet and exercise the more my apple shrivels while it all carries on bulging out over my tum. Wail! I don't NEED to lose my bottom but why won't my tum shrink despite my best efforts. It is so discouraging! sad

Frugola Thu 10-Apr-25 15:12:47

You serious dieters will approve that I hae een given up my morning gin tonic. Now it is only tonic, ice and slice.
