On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle.

We now have a small band of ‘regulars’ called Pears and Apples. I am so grateful to those who have stayed loyal and contributed a lot of useful information and given support, especially Whiff 👍

Do join us, the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.

Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.

Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.

Pass on any useful diet tips.

You have nothing to lose on this thread, other than weight.

Our mantra is - EAT LESS FOR LIFE.

NanKate Wed 18-Jun-25 20:32:00

A cup of tea and a toasted tea cake does it for me 👍

NanKate Mon 23-Jun-25 19:50:18

I suspect smithcarry you are promoting a product which is not what we do on this thread.

Shirleyw Tue 24-Jun-25 03:06:21

2 and a half pounds off….the heat on Saturday must of melted it ☀️🏃‍♀️‍➡️.
Nice to have it a bit cooler this week.

Hope you’re all ok and enjoying the dry weather.

Onwards and downwards as they say .

Whiff Tue 24-Jun-25 08:32:01

Just reported smithcarry.

This doesn't usually happen on this thread but the trolls are out in full force again on estrangement threads. May be on other threads . Please read the posters name carefully as they change one letter or number or both plus put a capital letter in where there isn't one normally. Plus what out for names spelt backwards there has been troll, goblin

Whiff Tue 24-Jun-25 08:42:41

And gnome . Finger hit.post. watch out for not what 🤦.

Shirley brilliant. One pound down for me this week. Not as much as I would have liked but it's down .
Got cellulitis on my big toe on antibiotics. But hasn't stopped me exercising and going to my classes .

Looking forward to next week going to a classical concert in the city on Thursday night . Been wanting to go since I moved here nearly 6 years ago. Already got my tickets for Fishermen's friends in February. I have to sit so no one is behind me and on an aisle seat. Plus have my high fidelity ear plugs in will still hear the music but cut out anything things that will make me startle .

Have a good week everyone..

NanKate Wed 25-Jun-25 08:07:14

Well done Shirley 👍

Thanks Whiff for getting rid of the interloper.

Hope you enjoy the concert.

Shirleyw Wed 25-Jun-25 21:14:09

Well done and thanks whiff, enjoy the evening on Thursday.

Thanks nankate.

Glad we are losing weight the hard after what has come to light about one of the weight loss jabs.

It always amazes me people want quick fixes and not change their eating habits. We all control what we eat and drink . And it's hard and very easy to over eat. Guilty of that many a time . Hence my being over 19st+ for decades .
Eating less like NanKate says it is for life . But no one here ever gives up.

That's why this thread is so important a place to go where everyone understands and no judgements. But plenty of support and friendship..🤸

NanKate Thu 26-Jun-25 21:27:47

Well said Whiff. 👍

Shirleyw Fri 27-Jun-25 05:43:02

Yes, absolutely whiff.

CocoPops Fri 27-Jun-25 21:18:16

Nothing to report! I've been at a standstill so have decided to Calorie count for a week or 2 and see how it goes. Keep plodding on gals.

Whiff Sat 28-Jun-25 13:58:46

CocoPops are you feeling better ? Counting calories is the only way I can do it .

Yet another thread about weight loss jab🥱. Why start a new thread when there are already 2 other ones 🤷🤷🤷.

Since my last post on 14 June, I have done what NanaKate did, what I always start but give up. When I measured my waist it was huge as much as my bust used to be. I have lost a few pounds, not as much as I thought I would though, but it's to be long haul. Will check my weight weekly and even if just a pound that's two packets of butter equivalent. 😬

NanKate Sun 29-Jun-25 07:27:23

Well done Allsorts. Losing weight is tough and there are bumps along the way, but improving your overall health is so important, especially as we age. Keep at it.

If I have a bad day I just have to accept it and start all over again the next day.

Onward and downward Girls. 👎

Whiff Sun 29-Jun-25 12:32:01

Allsorts losing weight is hard . That's the one thing about the pears we don't take short cuts we put in the hard work and we should be proud we do even if we put on we don't stop we keep going year after year. That's takes grit and strong will power never to give up. Many here have health problems which can make it difficult to lose weight and exercise. But everyone still keeps on no matter how much pain or how ill we feel.

Pears take no short cuts I am proud to be amongst you all. We are real women who have lumps ,bumps flabby saggy bits well I do 🤣 but I don't care because I am not a size 32 but a 16 now.

NanKate's purple trousers inspired me to by a Seasalt tunic that has purple in it in the sale of cause and one with bright yellow flowers . My husband used to try this colour on or this one . But most of my clothes wear black with dark pattern but I didn't usually go for pattern but solid colour dark colours . The lightest colour I wore was my cream wedding dress.

Had bit of drama yesterday 111 sent the paramedics and ambulance after talking to them . They where here 2 hours. I had to stop my statin to take the antibiotics the pharmacist gave me for the cellulitis in my toe. But yesterday my BP drop but my heart rate was 108 . I just thought 111 would give me advice . Being without my statin since Tuesday put me into withdrawal. Thankfully back on it today. They where lovely and when one talked to the hospital Dr he read my medical records as you can guess she was missing for a while. The Dr said because I was a complex case. And I was back to normal best to stay at home rather than sit in A&E. But he would send the report to my GP. Paramedics said to phone if I felt worse and said if I didn't hear from my GP by lunchtime to phone .
Another antibiotic to go on my list never to have again .

Feeling ok. Lost 4 lb this week no idea how as since January been struggling with the after dinner cravings .

I was talking to my brother this morning said about what has been happening since then. He has had 2 TIAs and both where different. I am convinced after researching I had one not a migraine like the stroke neurologist said. Thats why I am seeing my neurologist in August.

Anyway have a good week everyone.

NanKate Sun 29-Jun-25 15:03:10

Hope you are feeling better Whiff and glad 111 did the trick to get you a face to face advice. 👍

It took me some months to begin to ignore evening cravings. Recently they seemed to come back so I had a large cup of tea and that definitely helped.

Shirleyw Mon 30-Jun-25 02:51:32

Hope you have improved whiff. Well done losing 4lbs .

Weighed on Friday and lost 1lb but probably put that back on as last night I could stop eating lol….ate 3 of my homemade oat bars….and they were not small lol…..

I think today the heat will melt the fat away 😂☀️☀️☀️😎

Allsorts Mon 30-Jun-25 08:05:40

Measured my waist and definitely lost 2". I thought my weight loss was slow but healthy eating obviosly working. Just the insentive to carry on until I get to my target, but it's half a stone higher than the chart as I would look ill. I would like to get down a dress size lower as I was creeping up to considering going up a dress size.

Allsorts Tue 08-Jul-25 06:46:04

Well I was the last to post over a week ago. Still on my eating plan and the weight is coming off. I have lost over half a shone and it shows, going to ease off a little as think I have been too restrictive and feel very tired. Need to get another 10 lbs off which will still be too much for my height according to the charts but it wouldn't suit me any lower . Will be happy at 1lb a week loss if I can, so hopefully slow but sure Niwegian I have kick started it.

Whiff Tue 08-Jul-25 12:05:04

NanKate back to usual self since January still not back to how I was pre January. Looks like this is my usual self now. Finally managed to do my pedalling on Saturday and back to doing my classes the usual way.
Put 1 lb on this week. But haven't been so careful plus just resting . Ready to go away next week to see my brother and sister in law and gang .

Shirley well done with the loss. That's why I only bake to give away . My daughter and grandsons came on Sunday and made biscuits for them but I didn't have one . But did taste the mixture. And they took them home with them.
Allsorts 2" and half a stone brilliant. That's a dress size down.

Set to be another heat wave next week .Hope it won't be to hot. Good excuse for ice cream .

Went to see my first classical concert in the city on Thursday night . With my hi fidelity ear plugs on strongest strength they worked. Heard the music but dulled all other sound . Had brilliant help getting to my seat and the young man fetched me at the end of the performance. Seats where comfortable and had leg room. Had a wonderful time . Have got tickets for Fishermen's friends in February but hope to go to another concert before Christmas now I know with my ear plugs I can cope .

Have a good week pears .

Allsorts Thu 10-Jul-25 07:12:38

There's no stopping you now Whiff, well done girls booking Fishermans Friends you've I'll enjoy it.
Yesterday I weakened, I had two Magnums and a whole tin if fullest creamed rice. All in an hour. I have told myself off very strongly and will not even buy any more treats as I can't trust myself.

NanKate Thu 10-Jul-25 07:47:28

Yes I have put a pound on too Whiff but am going carefully now as I am going on hols to the New Forest on Friday for a week. Great you feel back on track Whiff.

Allsorts I can almost taste that rice pudding delicious 😋

I shall have a Magnum and fish and chips whilst on hols but I will avoid puddings. In the past I ate everything going, but not now.

Whiff Fri 11-Jul-25 16:28:50

Going to see my brother and sister in law on Monday until Friday. Promised to take me through the drive thru ice shop . It's made on the farm from their own cows and they usually have 6 flavours a day plus 2 specials never the same each day and they rotate them .

I made the mistake of buying pudding rice from M&S and made full amount using oat milk . It was delicious and you might have guessed I eat the lot. So only made half portion after that. No sugar or spread as it said on the packet .

Had my ramp fitted yesterday I call it industrial chic.

Monday will pop into M&S on Monday for breakfast on the train . But hopefully they have their yummy yogurt and granola pots.

Allsorts I can't eat magnum as I am to messy and get covered in chocolate. Which is a good thing . But could eat a pot of 900 ml of ice cream in one go . So don't buy any but have it ice in pots from shops on holiday.

Have a good holiday NanKate in the new forest .

NanKate Fri 11-Jul-25 21:32:15

Same to you Whiff have a lovely family holiday.

Slightly cooler in the New Forest. Lovely to be surrounded with free roaming ponies and donkeys.

NanKate Fri 11-Jul-25 21:32:52

PS like the ramp !
