Do join us, the rules are simple.

It has come through šŸ˜€

I’ll try sending the photo again it seems to not have come through.

Welcome Frugola you have come to the right place for help and encouragement. You seem to be approaching a more healthy lifestyle in just the right way.

Although I know you don’t want to calories count like I do. However I found this book very helpful as it gave me an idea of what to eat and what to avoid. Have a look at it online.

silverlining weight loss is a difficult journey and you do not need to feel any shame. Try to put the small weight gain to the back of your mind and just Start Again. I have done so many times.

Hello all. May I join you? I need encouragement for my weight down/fitness up programme.

I'm a real oldie - nearly 80. I had a shock when I wanted to work out my BMI: I have SHRUNK by over two inches - had always been 5'7" but am now 5'5"! This means I'll have to lose several pounds to get into the BMI 25 category.

I started doing the CRAF 12 Minute Exercises in the New Year (now called Helen Mirren exercises as she has done them for years.) I have also started a beginners' 27 minute programme on my indoor bike. Have lost 2.6kg since New Year - it fell off at first but now progress is very slow.

Am not dieting as such but watching the quality and quantity of what I eat. I couldn't do calory counting every day.

While I still have skinny arms and legs my problem is all belly fat. Am almost a tree trunk in shape.

I aso hope that losing some weight wil ease my constant lower back pain.

Well I put on another 1.5 lbs this week. I was hanging my head in shame 😳 but had no idea why this happened as I haven’t been anywhere and eaten as I usually eat. So my total loss now is o lt 2 lbs in about 4 weeks .
Disappointed ā˜¹ļø

My thoughts on chocolate.

For me chocolate is like a drug, one piece is never enough.

Two years ago when a very slim shop assistant said to me ā€˜People who buy an item of clothing and say they will slim down to get into it never do’. This really annoyed me and slowly but surely I have proved her wrong. I’m still not at my optimum weight but I am getting there and I can wear the jacket I bought.

Now back to the chocolate. I stopped eating it. A bit like a drug addict I craved it, but now 2 years down the track with NO chocolate I rarely think about it at all.

This method might not suit you Pears and Apples but I thought you might be interested.

Whiff We all have hard days, I am not great this past week or so, but you have come so far and done so well. You are back on track, we know it makes sense.

NanKate Tue 11-Mar-25 07:32:09

Whiff I do so admire your honesty. Yes you know you went overboard with your eating, however you are now back to your usual routine of Eating Less for Life. You haven’t given up you are back on track. You are a Star āļø

Well had a total melt down on Thursday morning . No idea why but had an overwhelming feeling of wanting to see my son and grandsons. Cried all morning and went back to bad habits of comfort eating . Ashamed to say I eat a kilo of Easiyo yogurt I had made the day before it was sugar free and 70 cals per 100g. Friday for some reason no idea why I was eating demerara sugar by the spoonful and I haven't got a sweet tooth like I used to have years ago .
Saturday went for my CT scan on the arteries in my neck with dye. As usual got there 2 hours early can't abide being late . So had a hot chocolate and lemon and white chocolate muffin from the Starbucks.

Normally they have no trouble with my veins but took 3 attempts to get a needle in that worked. But they where wonderful and didn't hurt me . I had 2 radiographers working to find a vein . Finally got one in the back of my right hand . Had the test done without dye then with . The dye makes me feel like I am on fire inside but only lasts for a couple of minutes. But holding onto my hands so they didn't tremble meant they got good pictures. But I had stiffen up and needed help getting up and needed help walking until I loosened up.

On the way home popped into Aldi as I was having friends for lunch on Sunday. Before going to the hospital had made gluten free shortcrust pastry. I couldn't get any ready rolled from Sainsbury's and my daughter had tried at Asda and Tesco they hadn't got any either. Aldi don't sell it or any gluten free flour. I brought a flat bread individual pizza as I didn't have any dinner in the fridge. Should have known better as even though I didn't let it get to crispy still gave me a large blood blister in my mouth .

Anyway put the weight on I took off last week. So back on course .

Had a lovely time with my friends and the gluten free veggie quiche and salad was a hit even though I had to mould the pastry into the tin as I can't roll out anymore. Made 2 little ones which are in the freezer ready for my dinner when I come home from my holiday in May.

Made a gluten free apple crumble. I always put oats into the topping with the flour it gives it an extra crunch . There was cream or yogurt to go with it . I had yogurt my friends cream . But they took home left over quiche ,crumble and the cream .

One of my friends brought me some chocolate cake she had made . She told me she wanted to make me a cake but I did ask her not to bring to much . It was delicious I finished it yesterday. 🤦. I had intended it to last all week.

As there was no sit fit yesterday because our instructor had to take her husband who had his operation last week to outpatients. So did extra rotations on my pedals and exercises. Glad I am going to move it or lose it today.

Tomorrow at the Brain Charity all day for their head matters day. Talks by neurologist's and some gadgets to help with disabilities. I will get to see friends I made there. Really miss not going every week but just can't do the 4 hour round trip that's including waiting time for bus and train for a 2 hour craft lesson anymore . But got my monthly craft group next week yah.

As usual a ramble . If this losing weight malarkey was easy we would all be size 12 without any flabby bits . But we never give up and that's the main thing . So keep fighting pears one day we will reach our goal and stay there . šŸ¤øšŸ‹ļøšŸ˜Š

0.8lb down this week BUT GS was here today and we made chocolate chip cookies. I ate too many! Back on the wagon tomorrow. Good to know you've planned hols Whiff. So good to have sommat on the calendar to look forward to isn't it.

Shirleyw Sun 09-Mar-25 18:19:25

sillymoo…bet you had a good evening though.😁

NanKate Sun 09-Mar-25 15:14:56

keepingquiet it’s a struggle isn’t it?

Suggestions as follows.

Drink a large glass of water with ice and lemon in it.
If you are tempted to chocolate make yourself wait 10 minutes and if the urge is there have the choc.
Freeze chocolate it takes longer to eat.
If you gave had a bad day of eating accept it.
Start again the next day on your eating less for life plan (never give yourself 2 or 3 days off).

Hope that helps.

Put the pound back on I lost last week!

I'm beginning to think it's a psychiological thing- this barrier to reaching my target.

Going through a stressful time just now (when not?) and feeling down so falling back on the comfort food, especially bread and chocolate.

Any tips anyone, on getting this mood lifted and getting through the barrier?

Sillymoo Sun 09-Mar-25 07:47:44

Feeling very full and uncomfortable this morning. Had friends round fir dinner last night, lamb shank tagine plus a lot of red wine. Hoping for a good slimming day today!

Shirleyw Fri 07-Mar-25 22:29:07

Brill whiff…. Sooo us… like the kettle……have a good weekend all

NanKate Fri 07-Mar-25 20:04:46

Love the poem and the kettle Whiff

silverlining48 Fri 07-Mar-25 18:36:40

I gained a pound last night as expected really. Onwards and downwards pears.

Whiff Fri 07-Mar-25 11:46:32

Just noticed the paperclip is back. This is my new kettle since coming out of hospital lost some strength in my arms . My brother told me about kettle his friend has so brought one and it's brilliant. Still fill it using a jug like my old kettle . It can be lifted off the cradle but I kept it as it is .

Whiff Fri 07-Mar-25 11:41:04

Saw this today and thought it might be apt for us fruits
I've been gooder
I've been badder
Many times thinner
Many times fatter
There's stuff I remember and stuff I forget but I've always been me
And whatcha see is whatcha get.
😊

SW has a Recipe for pancakes, but I didn’t have any either.
It’s going to be a miracle if I shift anything tomorrow…

Sillymoo Wed 05-Mar-25 17:51:47

NO Whiff didn't have pancakes at all.

Whiff Wed 05-Mar-25 06:34:22

Sillymoo glad you lost a pound . Haven't had pancakes for years . I don't have a frying pan . And much prefer Yorkshire pudding. I make 12 in muffin tin and freeze and just reheat for 4 mins . But saying that can't remember last time I made them .

Those ingredients for pancakes are ok if you use fat free yogurt but oats and flour are roughly the same cals and you would probably have to use more yogurt than skimmed milk to make the batter the correct consistency. So in the end more cals than normal pancake mix. Plus you would make more pancakes with normal mix as oats would absorb more liquid .

Did you try making them with those ingredients?

Silverlining main thing is just keep going . Hopefully you will achieve your goal and probably more.

Went to move or lose it yesterday. My instructor said I looked better. Thought I had recovered from my week in hospital in January but still must have looked bad last week . To me I feel and look my usual self and have done for a few weeks . 🤷

silverlining48 Tue 04-Mar-25 16:40:30

Well done sillymoo. I had lost the pound I gained after losing it iyswim. Trying harder from today to say bye bye to another lb and if I do, it will be my first half stone, in 4 weeks. Which for me is amazing. Will report in Thursday evening.

Sillymoo Tue 04-Mar-25 10:56:11

Keep on keeping on silverlining.

Went to WI this morning, a pound off so was quite pleased. It was Free Food February (?) but most people seem to have forgotten. Enjoyed a sample of two different curries people brought in.

The raffle prize was the ingredients for pancakes made with oats, yogurt, eggs. If I make any it will be with lemon and sugar/sweetener.
