Are you a secret Mounjaro user?

I’ve been using Mounjaro since January this year and only person I’ve told is my husband. Not told DS or DD. Think DS would be OK but DD definitely would be on the judgey side.

Just sometimes feel I need a place to share my successes/struggles with people who won’t tell me I’m doing wrong and lecture me on the “correct” way to loose weight.

If anyone who is secretly taking Mounjaro needs a place to chat please feel free to add to this thread.

Well done for taking the leap too!!

Cossy

BBC mounjaro is specifically prescribed for weight loss by both clinics and GP.

Ozempic, which I have prescribed by GP is specifically for type 2 diabetes but also has the same appetite suppressant effective as mounjaro. It slows down digestion and can cause constipation.

Both Mounjaro and Ozempic have been shown in limited testing that they are beneficial to the heart.

Cossy do you mean Wegovy?
I think Ozempic is different

I’m really worried about a potential black market for the tablets which could contain anything.

Not secret, but I've been using it for a year and have lost 14 kg. That's the good news. The bad is that it costs a LOT, I have loose skin, particularly around my upper arms, thighs and abdomen, and I look older as the skin on my face is showing more wrinkles (presumably the fat used to stretch them out a little). Worth it for me - I feel more like myself and having gained and lost the same weight about 15 times in the last 35 years, this does at least feel sustainable.

I'm open about it. And I don't want sudden loss. I want steady, sustainable loss, so I can keep up with trying to prevent muscle loss which can be an issue. I gather it's important to ensure a high intake of protein to that end, too.

Two ladies at swimming have lost loads of weight in the last year.

Don’t know about one of them, but the other says it’s down to diet and exercise, including slimming drinks.

If she is on medication, she’s not saying. But she certainly looks much fitter (and happier).

I am on Wegovy. It’s not fast acting like MJ. But at least it’s free & not the hundreds that my neighbour & friends are paying.
I’ve lost two stone very slowly.

A friend of mine went up to 20stone in weight across a number of years, she’s only just 40 now.

She’s lost 9 stone in 18 months and is using mounjaro privately and is keeping to a low dose for the rest of her life. She looks and feels great and no longer has high cholesterol or high blood pressure. She walked for exercise and monitored her food intake and upped her water intake.

I’m on a low Ozempic due to being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, it does help, but I need to move far more and have widespread osteo arthritis and fibromyalgia.

If I were you I’d stick to the mounjaro and see your GP straight away if you experience any side effects.

Good luck

I wasn't going to go down the Mounjaro path. I reasoned that I know what food to eat. My diet for the last few years has been healthy but I fall off the wagon on days out, holidays, social occasions and when feeling low or anxious. I was obese, tired, have back pain, osteoarthritis, now diagnosed with non alcoholic fatty liver and I have high cholesterol. I've tried slimming world with limited success but at 72 I didn't want to age unhealthily into a decrepit old age. So I'm trying Mounjaro. First two weeks I don't think I injected it properly ( didn't pull out the dosage knob !) So I think those weeks were wasted but I had two weeks on the lowest dose, then moved to a slightly higher dose of 5 mg. I'm finding I have very uncomfortable side effects. I'm suffering from fatigue, low energy and I feel very cold a lot of the time and slightly nauseous. I don't have any appetite. I hope these side effects are transitory because for my current and future health I need to lose weight. I do ensure that what I eat is highly nutritious and I also regularly take supplements. I shall stay with it for the time being but with a holiday coming up in a few weeks I hope I have the energy to enjoy myself!

Huge difference is this is under medical supervision. Each person is different, so questions and answers have to be very specific to each person's case, health issues, and other medication.

I’m a Mounjaro user Oldcodger, but not secretly, I’ve told everyone!
It’s working well, I’ve lost 1st 5lbs,feel much better already, still got 3 or 4 stone to go. It works out to about 1lb a week, sounds small, but it’s 1lb more than nothing!!
My cardiologist prescribed it for me, and said it has positive benefits to heart patients.
Message me if you have any questions, I’m happy to answer.

Unless I had diabetes I would not use the drug. It never ceases to amaze me the chances people take with unnecessary drugs and operations. It's their choice but if you must use it go through your Doctor,

Agreed. This is really quite dangerous, no long term research. Its their choice, but we all pick up the bill in the end.

My parcel arrived today. I'll inject tomorrow as we're out this evening.

I've only told my husband and my daughter. Told my brother (who is on the carnivore diet) he gave me a lecture about the dangers having watched something on TV. My reply was "Indeed " as I've been thinking about it for months, have read lots, including the possible side effects.

I'm 5ft 2in my bmi is 31.
10 years ago I lost 2.5 stone with slimming world in 9 months. But then I was working in childcare, very physical active, no health issues, wasn't on HRT.

SO, tomorrow is the day. Fingers crossed.

Would love a hear from others using WLI

Aldom

I had not heard of Mounjaro until yesterday when a spate of posts advertising it appeared on GN. What is it exactly and why the secrecy about taking it?

Because people want to make out they are loosing weight on their own, without the use of any medical intervention. People can be quite judgmental. If I could get my hands on some, I’d gladly tell all.

Btw I wouldn't tell anybody either if I was on it. They really dont need to know.

Homestead62 Wed 18-Jun-25 00:08:00

I don't use it but have battled with my weight nearly all my life. Totally get how difficult it is. I'm trying to lose weight by eating less and walking. I put on a stone during Covid Pandemic but couldn't lose it. Trying to walk extra in the good weather as need to lose this stone. Whether it works is anybody's guess. Good luck with the Mountjaro/ Weight Loss.

Mounjaro is not for everyone which is why only reputable pharmacies like Medexpress do thorough health screening and keeps your GP informed but I would always say ask your GP first which is what I did.

Flur Tue 17-Jun-25 17:17:28

When I lost 4 stone just before my 50th birthday, several people didn't recognise me at first, then they said you've not just lost weight you look really (beautiful, stunning or some such). I did actually look better, my posture, my clothes, I smiled a lot and enjoyed life. Losing weight can make you look beautiful. I am not being boastful i hope, I am 78 now. I have kept the weight off.

Usedtobeblonde Tue 17-Jun-25 14:50:41

I can assure you you I am not and have never been a cruel person.
I did not imply she was ugly but now her face has slimmed and contoured she is stunning.
Do not twist my words.

Just a little fyi - she was always beautiful you just chose not to see it because she was bigger

But she will live longer, and, not suffer with diabetes. 🤷‍♀️

My point was that her face must also have been beautiful beforehand unless she had also had a face transplant. It wasn’t about the health aspect. It implies that she was ugly beforehand. I thought that sounded cruel.

How do we know this? We have NO real idea of the eventual side effects. Slim people, mainly über slim people, do suffer from specific issues too. Heart, cholesterol, all sorts. I have 3 friends in their late 70s whose bones are crumbling, due to avoiding all fats all their life and their obsession with being VERY thin.

@usedtobeblonde that's so heartening to hear. Providing she remains healthy in body and mind then all is good and if prescribed by a reputable pharmacy then her GP will have been informed and checking in with her (regular bloods etc).
