I am 61 and weigh 11 stone 2 pounds. I need to lose a stone and hate being over 11 stone so much as I’m only 5 foot 3 inches.
Even though I need to lose weight I am finding it difficult and the scales are creeping up.
Any tips? Any good diet plans to follow?

I'm with you farmgran in that I took a very unexpected hospital hit a few months back. Result is I've been trying to put on weight ever since with no success. No fun being a bag of bones! Oh for the previous old me!
I've found that cutting out bread helped me to loose weight without too much effort. Other carb things like potatoes and pasta seem ok.
Be careful what you wish for though. I have been in hospital with a blood infection and a whole lot more weight fell off and I lost my figure and instantly aged.
I'm trying to live a healthy lifestyle and excercise as much as I'm able but I can't get the old me back!
I started using the Weighwatcher’s app at the end of February and have lost 10 lbs in six weeks. I’m not saying it’s easy it isn’t but it works for me using the WW points system and it has led me to make different choices with foods. DH is doing it as well and we struggle some days but on the whole it is working for us.

Can we name organisations? If so, I'd recommend Slimming World. No calorie counting, no having to weigh everything. It's really just sensible eating plus you can have treats if you want.
Trouble is a lot of people put it all back on and some! I saw the local SW Consultant yesterday and even she has piled the weight back on. She was down to about size 12 now she looks a good 18/20.
I am another 5:2 enthusiast. Restricted hours eating didn't really work for me because I am not a snacker, and the hours suggested meant such contorted eating times. Go out for a meal in the evening was more or less counted out unless you ate out at 5.30 and if I went out for lunch at lunchtime, I frequently didn't want to eat before the window shut, but would probably want to eat some fruit or have a slice of cheese about 9.00pm
Hello. I struggled with my weight for many years it finally came to a head when looking at photos of myself, I just couldn’t bear it any longer so I joined a slimming group. I’m not sure if you’re allowed to name them here but the initials are SW and over about three years I lost six stone and I’ve never looked back just the thought that you are going to get weighed every week and some one else is seeing that weight and writing it in your book is enough to keep me steady. Please try a slimming group, they are not like the “fat clubs” that are the butt of many jokes. I have made so many friends to talk to each week and the image therapy, where we all sit and commiserate with the people who didn’t see what they wanted at the scales and applaud those that did. There are lots of tips, recipes and advice to be found too. I still go once a week to keep my weight in check, have a coffee and a good chat.
As I said upthread, I follow the 5:2 fasting regime. I once tried restricted dieting, as in not eating from 6.30pm until 10.30am, but it didn't last long. Firstly, it didn't seem to work for me as well as the 5:2 and secondly, I realised that though not eating during that period wasn't a problem, I couldn't ever have a glass or two of wine (I'm not normally a day time drinker). Now I'm not dependent on alcohol, but this was a step too far!
I'm trying to eat within an eight hour window, though it's probably nearer to 10 hours in our case. I'm limiting carbohydrates and increasing vegetable and salad intake and losing around 1.5kg per week which is fine.
I've previously had great success with Weight Watchers, losing 50lbs some years ago, but they always seem to be changing their diets and the last one I tried did nothing for me at all.
My daughter has suceeded with Slimming World.
Now that the weather is better I think that being able to get out for regular walks will help, it's so much easier to avoid snacking if you're not just sitting around.

What's the problem with naming the organisation? If it works for you, why wouldn't you want to share.
If people asked re comfortable walking shoes, wouldn't you share if you had some that fitted the bill?

I have found that having meals within an eight hour window, then not eating in the evening after my diinner as well as calorie counting, I have been able to lose some weight.
I started doing something called Bright Line Eating in 2020 after reading the book written by a neuroscience. I had yo-yo dieted all my life and was fed up at reaching nearly seventeen stone as I could never keep any loss from coming back on. I gave it a try and am maintaining an eight and half stone weight loss, which is the real miracle. I’m not promoting anything but there is a website if that’s of interest to anyone.
I lost 3 stone in 6 months by cutting out the bad stuff and walking
I’d like a tip on how to stop compulsive eating. Mealtimes are okay it’s everything in between.
I lost 4 stone in 11 months on the 1:1 (Cambridge) diet.
I don't eat between 6pm and 9am -
I won't try to convert others - all I will say is that it worked for me, after trying many diets over the years.
ReadandCook losing weight is tricky but it can be done. Last October I weighed 11 stone 1 lb and started daily calorie counting. The book that helped me the most I will put on this message. I too eat within restricted hours, nothing from 6.30 pm to 9.00 am.
I am half a pound off one stone loss.
My tips when I feel hungry an hour before my evening meal I have a large glass of water with a small amount of ginger beer in it. I have slowly weaned myself off snacks and only occasionally have a biscuit in the afternoon with my cuppa.
It hasn’t been easy but I can now wear all my clothes, walk faster and feel better in myself.
Come and join us on the Pears thread where there is lots of useful advice and no criticism.
I keep my weight steady by restricted dieting. I don't eat outside my 8 hour window..
Just actually took some time to plan and cook well instead of letting it get to mealtime and grabbing what was around. (Usually involving toast😬)
Whatever you do the basic equation is energy in needs to be less than energy out.
Eat less, move more.
I have lost half a stone over 6-9 months simply by cutting down on the amount I was eating. 2 pieces of bread a day not 4 etc. I try to eat healthily but also like treats like chips! Smaller portions if eating out.
I carry some emergency food with me - small oatcakes - so that if I get hungry, I have something to stave off cravings for unhealthy food.
Good luck!
At much your age, height and weight I lost 2 stone using the 5:2 diet. On non fast days I limited my valley consumption to 1500 calories
I chose to lose some weight to see if I could reverse my diabetes diagnosis. Over 6 months I’ve lost just over a stone. I cut out desserts and cake replacing with extra veg and salads and fruit but no bananas and grapes. If it’s in the cupboard I will eat it so I’ve been really careful not to buy things that are sugary. It’s not really a diet but it’s worked for me. I’m due my annual diabetic check up so I will see if it’s made a difference.
The 5:2 fasting regime works for me. Two calorie restricted days a week and you can relax on the other five. It may not suit everyone of course, but it’s just routine for me now.
I've been following a healthy eating plan. The focus is on eating healthily as opposed to just weight loss, though I have almost lost a stone in weight it is more important to for me to be well.
