Weight loss fluctuations

I have heart failure and take a diuretic daily, the dose was doubled last year when I found the heat difficult, I’m taking 2 some days at the moment and still can only get my flip flops on! Hate to say it but I can’t wait for it to get cooler

I got on the scales the other morning only to jump off rather quickly as it showed I gained 4 lb since the day before!

Pesky fluid retention

I don't weigh myself but judge how my clothes fit me. In hot weather my rings are tight but soon loosen off when it cools down.

Absolutely normal to have a slight weight gain in hot weather due to fluid retention. My weight was up by about 2lbs this morning even though I wasn't dehydrated (urine was proper colour). I'm less active when it's really hot but I also eat less.

I think “weight fluctuations” irrespective of the weather, is an interesting topic itself. In my “normal” life, ie not dieting etc, normal weather, my weight can fluctuate by as much a 8lbs in any one week.

Anyone else like this?

As Aveline said, the body retains fluid in hot weather, but the opposite happens if you get cold! I was in India on one occasion, then went on a long bus journey through the hills where it was quite cool. I had to pee at every stop, despite not drinking very much. And of course the toilets were unspeakable!

Drinking more water might be the answer.

My mother-in-law was told that drinking more helps flush out this excess fluid by signaling to your kidneys that they no longer need to hoard water.

I retain fluid a lot in hot weather with the result that I'm up several times in the night for huge wees (sorry if TMI).

I am glad you have started this thread. I have been surprised that, despite eating less, my weight has risen by about 3 lb during the hot spell. I expected to have sweated it off but I have been drinking more water. My early morning walks have been slower and shorter but I still do my indoor strengthening routine in front of a fan!
I hope you are right Gymstagran in that I shall revert to normal when the weather does.

My normal exercise routine has been disrupted by the heat so less exercise more sitting around and eating more has inevitable consequences. However, once the temperatures get back to normal so will my weight.
