Was the uniform for The Friary grey with red?

I always wanted to go there after my friend from primary school moved to Lichfield.
Our uniform was a grotty green and navy.

thatbags there is a strange train of thought that one's appearance is reflective of one's ability to learn! I always like to think of that famous picture of Einstein.

grin grin

Galen Wed 04-Feb-15 17:02:48

Be gatting on wi yowr work or you'll feel the back of my hand!

loopylou Wed 04-Feb-15 16:50:05

And you said....? grin

annodomini Wed 04-Feb-15 16:48:06

Never mind Titus Andronicus. In my first job, I made recalcitrant pupils learn passages from the Old Testament.

And X begat Y; Y begat Z...

Please Miss, what does 'begat' mean?

What's wrong with school kids looking scruffy, by the way? I've always wondered. If you can't be scruffy when you're a kid when can you?

Galen Wed 04-Feb-15 16:10:40

Was the same at my convent. The Friary was very high C of E! Bells and smells and church twice on Sunday's! Ugh!

If you had spelt your name Ainé or some other outlandish way we would have guessed

only jesting BTW !

Ana Wed 04-Feb-15 15:43:37

I hadn't realised you were Irish, Anya!

Anya Wed 04-Feb-15 15:42:58

Better get the fish fingers on...GC arriving any minute! moon

loopylou Wed 04-Feb-15 15:40:51

Hiya Anya!
grin

Anya Wed 04-Feb-15 15:38:58

I didn't realise I was talking to a 2nd class individual, and a fee paying one at that. Bejesus a rich proddy! wink

loopylou Wed 04-Feb-15 15:36:31

As we 'non-Catholics' were 2nd class individuals beyond redemption (never mind that the fee-paying pupils outnumbered RCs 2:1) as we were frequently reminded, far be it for me to doubt anything I was told grin!
The only male on the premises was the gardener and the one time there was a male teacher he had to sit in a separate Staff room..... Any girl seen within 10 feet of either got a Saturday detention (made his teaching rather remote!)

Anya Wed 04-Feb-15 15:35:54

He was probably wearing plimsolls.

Anya Wed 04-Feb-15 15:35:08

To be sure Ana why didn't I think of that earlier.

I'd really like to thank Liza for starting this thread and reviving my happy memories of boarding school. I haven't had such fun since Father Geary slipped off the porch roof while he was repairing the tiles under Sister Ignatious's cell.

Ana Wed 04-Feb-15 15:31:49

It must have been Holy Spirit water...

Anya Wed 04-Feb-15 15:31:15

Distinct

Anya Wed 04-Feb-15 15:30:35

No, tap water doesn't have that districts odour of juniper berries I always associate with genuine Holy Water.

Ana Wed 04-Feb-15 15:29:29

grin

Anya Wed 04-Feb-15 15:27:42

Loopy are you suggesting it was only tap water?

loopylou Wed 04-Feb-15 15:23:18

Or it wasn't Holy Water she was swigging grin!

Anya Wed 04-Feb-15 15:10:38

She kept a small bottle of Holy Water in her habit. It was her habit to take a swig now and then when teaching us. I am impressed that she was so ahead of her time.

Anya Wed 04-Feb-15 15:08:14

No Friars either Galen though we did have a very whiskery Sister John.

Galen Wed 04-Feb-15 15:02:29

No Friars. Just a load of bigoted old spinsters who believed in a very religious upbringing where sex did not even exist.
