My school uniform was fab - t-shirt, jeans or miniskirt and plimsols. Done.

Remember the boys school in Lichfield. Shorts until the sixth form. The prefects had tassels on their caps!

and a satchel of course, no wonder I grew up lopsided !!

NanaandGrampy - oh those coulottes. Ours were navy woollen ones, deemed by the nuns to be modest, and not allowing anyone to have impure thoughts. Come to think of it the only male we ever saw was the priest grin.

The velour hat was for winter and a panama for summer.

merlotgran Sat 30-Jan-16 22:49:24

A velour hat that had to be steamed and a plastic mac that was supposed to cover all during a summer shower including your blazer because you weren't allowed to take it off.

NanaandGrampy Sat 30-Jan-16 22:33:06

ah - ours was Navy blue ! and the culottes for sports !!

ninathenana Sat 30-Jan-16 22:30:04

Also the bottle green gabardine mac.
Fortunately not compulsory and only seen on 1st years for the first week of September grin

Don't forget the school tie! For both sexes, of course.

NanaandGrampy Sat 30-Jan-16 18:54:12

Blimey you're almost describing my old school uniform, including a felt bowler and navy blue knickers !!

Iam64 Sat 30-Jan-16 18:42:30

AND of course, a beret or a straw hat for the little girls

Alea Sat 30-Jan-16 17:57:27

iPad seems to have gone into meltdown
That was meant to be " pinafore dresses for the girls" not whatever I wrote!

Alea Sat 30-Jan-16 17:55:57

Personally I like a nice blazer, striped and trimmed with braid. Shorts for little boys of course oh, and caps to doff in winter and boaters in the summer. Pinafore drthe she's for the girls.
Some nice lace up brogues or Start rites for shoes but they would have to change into indoor shoes in the classroom. Daps would do.

Jalima grin

Jalima Sat 30-Jan-16 12:28:32

Plimsolls, plimsoles, pumps, daps - who cares what anyone wears on Groundhog Day?

Anya Sat 30-Jan-16 11:57:12

Nah! Let them flounder Nellie ...don't be a spoilsport!!

trisher Sat 30-Jan-16 11:55:10

Oh I think the new uniform is a great improvement, the old one hadn't a shirt or jumper, even buttoned up the blazer would just not be warm enough!!

Nelliemoser Sat 30-Jan-16 11:50:58

Should we enlighten those bemused new GNrs who have not encountered plimsoles before or should we leave them puzzled?

Anya Sat 30-Jan-16 11:42:41

imperfect wink

Perhaps, if there are holes in the plimsoles, they could put a sock in it hmm

sherish Sat 30-Jan-16 11:34:21

Yawn, yawn.

Ariadne Sat 30-Jan-16 10:56:17

Ah, plimsolls again!

annodomini Fri 29-Jan-16 23:36:46

downtoearth, I think the 'black lace up pumps'are synonymous with you know what. grin

Jalima Fri 29-Jan-16 23:15:59

I would just send him in the old ones with holes in, you can stuff them up with cardboard if it snows.
Don't forget to take him to school in your pyjamas.

Bellanonna Fri 29-Jan-16 22:23:04

NannandGrampy

Think of Norse mythology

annodomini Fri 29-Jan-16 22:11:46

'Ere we go again!
